Title = An Altogether Usual Night at the Usual
|Summary = Two 'monsters' a Police Chief and 'The' Doctor have a nice evening socializing on an otherwise unremarkable evening.
|Who = Miwa, Rayne, Alden, Romana
|Date = 1-28-2020
|Where = The Usual
|Log= Miwa enters the Usual, walking along on her flippers, wearing a set of color-matched neoprene socks on the ends to protect them from the asphalt and concrete. She takes a moment to look around as she heads further inside, checking out who else might be there and wondering what this place had on the menu as she had only heard about this place in passing and no one had directly mentioned the fact that you could order just about anything you can imagine. She also is trying to decide where it would be easiest for her to sit.

And tonight at the Usual, among the other odd and nod so odd denizens, is a police officer. It looks like a fairly young one, could be in her late teens, but really the part that most stands out is her rainbow colored hair. She is currently seated at the bar with what is more than likely a mug of coffee in front of her.
Romana also makes her way into the Usual, the robot dog gliding along at her heels. She heads for the bar, hopping onto a stool. K-9 parks himself under it where nobody's going to trip over his metal tail. Romana glances at Rayne, whom she's seen, and the other, whom she hasn't.

At one of the tables, there was what looks like an oversized toy block sculpture eating what can eb described as... meat, it's a whole chunk of meat around the bone, large enough to match his snout, somehow... the plastic blocks making the creature's maw are taking clean bites of the stuff.

Miwa notices a few people at the bar, and wonders if she could manage to get herself up onto one of those stools. However, she also spots what appears to be a small lizard creature made of large lego blocks. She blinks, finding Alden oddly fascinating and yet after some of the stranger Pokemon species she's seen or heard about, doesn't find it terribly shocking either. She approaches Alden's table and offers a wave of her right flipper. "Hello. pardon if I'm totally wrong, but are you some sort of new Pokemon that hasn't yet been discovered where I'm from?"

The weird toylike critter takes another bite of the 'meat' and places down when a curious creature approaches him, waving one hand and seeming rather happy?, it's weird, it is smiling, just slightly but somehow very noticeably. He waves back and tilts his head to hte left as she makes such a question, "No... I am not a pokemon, I'm a Digimon, ToyAgumon to be precise." he says happily.

Romana glances at the two...non-humanoids. She arches an eyebrow for a moment. The lego one is smiling and the aquatic one, who doesn't seem to her eyes to be entirely comfortable on the land also seems quite cheerful. It makes her feel, for a moment, a little left out, but ah well. She orders fish and chips.

Miwa blushes a bit at Alden's answer, feeling a little embarrassed. "Oh, I see. I thought it'd be a pretty incredible coincidence if you were, and you could certainly pass for one on looks in my opinion. Anyway, I am a Pokemon myself, a Primarina specifically, the name's Miwa. Come to think of it, I did meet a Digimon once before, I think he was a Gabumon." She offers with a brief glance back toward the bar before turning back toward Alden. "Mind if I join you?"
Rayne just watches over the room for the moment. Is she expecting trouble? ...Or is she just on a break. She glances over the two more odd looking individuals in the room apparently getting to know each other. And then her gaze just keeps moving before she takes another long sip of her coffee.

The digimon perks up a bit at the mention of other digimon, "You did?" he asks, "Oh, I take you don't mean around here..." he says, seeming to get a bit meditative, thinking a bit, "I don't think I ever heard of pokemon before." he finally muses, before nodding, "You can call me Alden, figured I should use... a name like humans do, even if I haven't seen other digimon around." he says, smiling, "Sure, you are welcome to join Miwa." he says, eyeing the seal like creature curiously, "So you are a pokemon that lives in water normally?" he asks.
Romana glances across at Rayne. "This place is so cosmpolitan." Good part...she doesn't stand out. People just assume she's human and look at the flashier beings.

Rayne nods slightly absently to Romana. "Yeah. We've got... a lot of people of different types and builds around here." She finally actually looks at Romana with a light, tired looking smile. "I like it. It feels... more real to me, somehow. Like the few years I spent on Jorvar Station... but there's a lot more humans around here."

Miwa nods as she climbs up into the booth seat across from Alden, letting her tail stretch out to the side. "I did yes, but it unfortunately wasn't here. it was on another world. Happy to meet another though, never really seen anything quite like you before. As for me, yes, I am a water type with an aquatic build, but I've lived around humans my whole life so I've gotten used to being on land too. I can get around alright on my flippers, or even create a floating water balloon and float around on that for a while." She explains, also smiling a bit as she overhears the conversation between Rayne and Romana, made her feel welcome.

The digimon is a bit curious, and smiles a bit more at the talk of being a novelty for her, "Yeah haven't seen many like me around, even back home." he says, before adding, "That's nice!, I mostly stay like this, or in my champion form, unless I need to be bigger, or need to fight something really strong, then I can go a bit further." he muses, "You seem really strong, controlling water like that." he says, before chuckling a bit. "At least humans weren't freaked out by me in here."
"I've spent enough time on earth," The blonde notes, "To be very used to humans and their peculiarities." After all, to her, they're the aliens.
Rayne nods, then glances at Romana. She /looks/ human. But we all know what looks can be... "Yeah, we're an odd bunch, too. But every species has their peculiarities when looked at from the outside."

Miwa smiles at the compliment from Alden. "Thanks, I am certainly stronger than I look, but that is pretty common for Pokemon. I could show you sometime if you want. I think it's pretty interesting how you can change forms like that. I've gone through a few permanent changes as I've evolved, but I can't change into any other form at will. Some Pokemon can with the help of special mega stones, but there hasn't been such a thing discovered for my species." She pauses to take a breath, then continues.

"I heard rumors of Pokemon growing very large for a short time in a faraway region, was planning to go visit sometime soon, but now I'm here, so I guess that vacation will have to wait. In any case, everyone I've met here so far has been very nice, and now I have an actual house, which is a bit of a change since I'd been living in a grotto on a small island back home that didn't even have electricity."

Alden smiles a bit, "I'd love to see that." he says, nodding a few times, opening his eyes wide a bit at the description of certain... things pokemon can do, "That does sound really neat, so... it's usually permanent changes for pokemon?" he asks, before letting out a sight at the 'now I am here'. "So you got... drawn here and can't go back home?" he asks, before nodding, "I used to live in the digital world, so not used too much to humans, or big houses, I did have a small place."
Rayne herself has neither of those things. But she is picking up on clues, for once. "I'm gathering that you're, in fact, not human, then. Shapeshifter of some sort? cosmetic surgery?" No, she's not considering the possibility that two species from different planets can /happen/ to look identical.

Miwa nods and further explains about her changes. "Right, when I was young, I was a Popplio, much smaller, about a foot tall, all dark blue, almost the same shade as my tail now except for my snout and the single frill around my neck. My middle form was Brionne, about two feet tall, lighter blue three frilly fins around my midsection, longer segmented ears, and white tips on my flippers. A while after that I changed again to how I am now, and no, I can't change back." She then pauses and changes the subject.

"Anyway if there is a way to go back home I haven't found it and no one seems to know. I have felt a little homesick, but I'm trying to make the best of it here. So um, I saw you eating some kind of meat, what exactly is available here? I am a little hungry." She doesn't direct the question at Alden alone since she's up for suggestions from anyone there.

"Pure coincidence." It's all outward, a scan would reveal how very different Romana is. "Parallel evolution, I suppose." Or who knows...

Rayne tilts her head, then says, "That's... really low probability. I mean, yes, the basic body plan of two arms and two legs and a head is... super common, but that's remarkable coincidence." She doesn't sound like she disbelieves Romana isn't human so much as she's just bewildered by it.

The digimon listens closely to the explanation, tilting his head to one side and then the other, taking little nibbles of his meal even as he hears hte explanation on the changes, "That's neat, my own... changes don't seem very related to what i am now."he says, chuckling a bit, rubbing the back of his head, "I am not strong enough to keep them permanently." he muses.
The digimon sighs at the talk of 'homesick', "I can relate, I kinda miss... seeing other digimon and my world." he muses, perking up slightly at the change of topic, "They seem to have a lot of stuff!, maybe they have something similar to what you eat back home?"
"The universe is a very big place," Romana points out. "And there *are* only so many efficient designs."

Miwa thinks for a moment about what she'd like to eat, remembers talking with Ash about malasadas, but that was more of a desert. She remembers the taco stand that was near the beach she frequented and liking the fish tacos they had. "Hmm, some fish tacos would be nice, and I think the drink they served at the stand I used to go to is called lemonade on other worlds, or at least it tastes very similar... Maybe some malasadas for dessert."

She then decides to ask more about how Alden can change, as she can't remember actually seeing a Digimon Digivolve before. "So when you change forms, you change completely, looking totally different or something? That must be a bit confusing for others and disconcerting for you. Even Pokemon are sometimes a little confused by how they've changed when they evolve."

The toy critter nods a few times, "Pretty much, sometimes.. the change is kind of... related to your previous form, but, usually it can be a very different appearance, we never have much issues with that honestly, except maybe adapting after the first change, I think it's weird humans can't tell us appart sometimes." he says, as if it was an obvious thing. "I admit it was a bit... easier for me, my forms aren't that different, bodywise, some digimon change really drastically."

Miwa nods as she listens to Alden talk about how much he or some other Digimon can change. "I see, well it's good that it isn't too disorienting to you. There are some exceptions, but most Pokemon even if they do grow a lot and change in appearance, they generally keep the same body type and at least look somewhat similar. A great example of an exception is Dratini. It's a blue and white snake, middle stage is Dragonair, a bigger snake. Third stage is Dragonite, a chubby bipedal dragon with a long thick tail, small wings, and antennae. I feel like that might be a bit of an adjustment." She says with a chuckle, then smiles as her food arrives and she carefully takes a taco between her flippers and begins to munch on it.
Alden nods a few times, finishing his own meal and now sipping something from a glass, one has to wonder how... or where does it all go. He flicks hsi tail a few times, "Pretty much, there are digimons that go from snakes to bipeds or quadrupeds or all sorts of shapes." he says with a bit of a chuckle. "Some take a while to really get used to it, if they decide to remain in that shape permanently."

Miwa smiles and laughs a little as Alden agrees with her about the larger changes taking some time to get used to. She finishes her first taco and sips from her drink a bit, then looks back at Alden with a more curious gaze. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but you look like you're made of plastic. Is your um, skin or whatever as hard as it looks? If so, how do you move around so easily?"
Rayne has disconnected.

The digimon answers the question by reaching for his left arm, holding it, adn tugging it off, detaching with a soft 'pop' and showing the typical pegs of plastic bricks. The detached hand still wriggles, before it gets reattached. "I think I function mostly like those plastic bricks, can even break appart and build things... if there were enough of my kind around." he begins, before adding, "I want to think I am a bit tougher than a bit of plastic." he chuckles softly. "As for how I move... I am nto really sure, I just do!" he says softly, tilting his head, "I never considered it was unusual."

Miwa gasps and then cringes a little as she watches the digimon literally pull his arm off of his body, but much to her surprise it didn't appear to cause him any pain at all, and then he says he can break apart and build things from his parts, even combining with others of his kind. "Well, that's a pretty unique ability. I might like to see that sometime. Hopefully we can see each other again soon but for now, I should be going. It was nice meeting you." She comments as she requests a paper bag for her food, and stashes it inside that, then in the drawstring bag she has on her for carrying things, and works at finishing off the rest of her lemonade.

Alden tries to reassure Miwa he was ok, showing his arm still working and curling those 'fingers' a few times, "Sure, any time you want." he says, "It was great meeting you too, Miwa." he says, "I should get going too."he admits, leaving his empty plate nad glass, waving cheerfully as he makes his way out.
Title = Lakeside Spar and Social
|Summary = Ash and Miwa have a quick spar at the lake, then meet Johann and the three have a nice chat.
|Who = Miwa, Ash, Johann, etc...
|Date = 1/27/2020
|Where = Nowhereto Park - Lakeside
|Log= The lake's beaches were, to Ash, a pale imitation of what Alola had to offer. The air lacked the right smell, temperature wrong, and all manner of other things that were 'wrong.' However, it was a fairly peaceful place that was both out in the open and didn't contain anything that was too terrifyingly important if a bit of dirt got kicked up. He stretched his arms overhead before bouncing on the heels of his bare feet. He was dressed in a white Tshirt with a stylized purple lotus emblazoned across the front and purple jogging pants. There was a smile on his face as he looked across to Miwa. "So... You ready for this?" His fingers flexed This would be the first time in what felt like forever that he had done even 'friendly' sparring.

Miwa was near the lake, looking across to Ash, this time wearing those protective socks of sorts on her flippers, which looked to be made of wetsuit material with rubber pads on the bottom. She gives him a nod.

"Sure, it's been a while. We should probably be careful though. We're a long way from any Pokemon Centers, and when I was looking around the area I didn't even see any regular hospitals, though there has to be a clinic or something somewhere, right?" I mean the place had most other things one would expect of a civilized town. "I'll let you have the honors of the first move this time." She says with a smile, but already her body temperature is dropping rapidly as she prepares for things to get started.
Ash Tenou nodded at Miwa's wanting caution, "There's a hospital of sorts near the courthouse. Probably in case any newcomers show up in less than a pristine condition on arrival." He could imagine people crash landing either already hurt, or getting hurt on impact. He paced away from Miwa and bowed.

His stance widened as his right arm extended, the z-ring on his wrist flashing either from a trick of the light or as a result of power he was gathering. There was an easy smile on his face as he was suddenly a streak of light. One moment he was leaned forward as if waiting for the starting pistol for a footrace. Next, he was at best a meter away from Miwa, swinging his left hand in an open palm strike at her chest. "Think fast!"

Miwa gives Ash a curious gaze as the bracelet she'd given him was flashing as she found it odd. She didn't have much time to think about it as just a moment later Ash has closed the distance between them so quickly that if she had blinked she'd have missed it entirely. As it is she tried to quickly fire an ice beam, but Ash strikes first, the strike hits firmly. Not only does it interrupt her attack, but it knocks the wind out of her and she lets out a breathless cry as she doubles over and gasps for air.
Ash Tenou inhaled sharply, perhaps intentionally giving Miwa an opening, or perhaps simply overconfident and pressing the attack would attempt to lift her. Energy surged through his body, reinforcing and strengthening his muscles in the attempt. It would only be a quick lift, more to his chest than overhead. Miwa was not overly heavy, but attempting to lift an uncooperative mass of muscle was harder than simply lifting a set weight.

Assuming he managed to lift, he would've thrown her back, apparently attempting to generate space while also keeping her off balance. and yet at the same time, and unknown to Ash himself, there was a pulse from his hands. Just enough to give a brief warmth and perhaps a touch of healing before contact broke.

Miwa blinks in surprise when Ash lifts her off the ground, but she's still trying to catch her breath and doesn't put up much resistance beyond a little squirming. After he throws her and she lands a bit sprawled out in the grass and lays still for a moment, potentially trying to lul Ash into a false sense of security as she finishes recovering. Then suddenly she surrounds her body with an envelope of water and rockets towards Ash, holding out her front flippers to brace herself as she attempts to ram into him.

Ash Tenou sprinted towards Miwa, again attempting to close the distance, again planning on blinking partway through to close the gap. Except Miwa sprang at him far sooner than he'd anticipated. As she collided with him, even with the pain from her greater mass knocking him to the ground, he smiled.

Well, there's the fact he had the air knocked out of his lungs, so it could have also been the start of a wheeze. Hard to say.

Instead of Miwa's trick of playing dead, he rolled lakeward. Extending his left hand and firing a beam of energy at her. The beam was as wide as his palm and in the moment it existed flashed between several colors not having enough time to settle on any one 'type' of energy before the shot finished. Leaving Ash still on the ground trying to work air into his lungs.

When Miwa saw Ash's hand extending toward her, she knew what was coming. A pink orb of energy quickly begins to form near her mouth while an image of the moon appears overhead. As Ash's void-beam fires, she fires back to counter, hoping her attack was at least strong enough to cancel it out and just have both moves cause some fireworks above.

the moon flashed in front of Ash's eyes as both attacks collided, producing a sort of pink shower of sparks radiating out from where his and Miwa's attacks met. As he got to his feet he shook his right hand and started massaging it with his left as if it had gone numb. "Owe," He gave Miwa an easy smile. "What the heck was that?"

He gave a soft chuckle as he stepped, and a trail of energy went to a nearby tree. "I do have to wonder what you'll do," Another trail of energy, to another tree, "When your opponent," Then to another tree, "Can be-"

He then appeared behind Miwa and gave her tail a playful slap right where its darker color joined the almost white of the rest of her body, "Can be practically anywhere?"

Having heard some commotion by the lake, Johann made his way there to check it out. It's not like he was doing anything important at the time, after all, just taking a walk to stretch his legs after a long day at the Clinic, leaving it in the capable hands of his assistants for the time being. Spotting Ash and Miwa, he nearly runs in to stop them, but something in their body language suggests they aren't a danger to each other.

"Ah, pardon my intrusion, hello by ze vay, my name is Johann, I am ze head doctor at ze Tvisted Clinic. Everyzing is well, I hope?" he politely calls to them instead, from a safe distance.

Miwa breathes a sigh of relief and smiles at the shower of pink sparks then gives Ash a bit of a confused look when he asks what the heck she just did. "Moonblast, is that honestly the first time I've used it around you? It's a fairy type move, like dazzling gleam, just more focused." She explains, wondering how well he can hear her as he starts zipping around again.
When he slaps her on the tail she blushes slightly and forms a water balloon above her head, and with a quick bit of singing sends it flying into Ash's face where it explodes. It was intentionally not at full power because this was just a spar, but would probably still sting more than her tail did from his slap. "Why don't you keep doing it and find out?" She says with a wink but says nothing more.

Ash Tenou shook at the water being dumped on his head and was about to respond when he heard Johann. this caused him to look the good Doctor's way and wave with his left hand, "Ah sorry! Didn't realize there was anyone else around." He then gestured to Miwa, "Me and my fiancee were taking time for a bit of exercise. Sorry to worry you." He would then start towards Johann with his hand extended, "Name's Ash, that's Miwa." then something clicked. "Wait, clinic? Where? Hadn't really seen more than an aid station at the welcome center since we got here."

Johann waves back, smiling and nodding at the pair. "Ah, young lovers having a spat zen... or a spar, I suppose? I vould comment on ze two of you being an odd couple, but I am hardly one to talk considering my own dating life." he says with a chuckle. "Somezing about sea dwellers, I am guessing."

At that last question, he raises an eyebrow and says, "Really? Zey should have had it marked on ze town map by now. I svear, ze red tape one must cut zhrough to get /anyzing/ done around here..."

Miwa smiles and hugs Ash with one flipper while balancing her weight on the other as he introduces her as his fiancee, at which she gives a little squeeze, it really was official now. "Yeah, just a little sparring, I promise we're not trying to kill each other, though it looks like you figured that out yourself as you were rushing over." She offers before finally letting go of Ash and shifting her weight onto both front flippers while she listens to Johann.

"Well maybe you can show us some time, and then we'll know, perhaps even spread the word or something. Also, you have a thing for a dweller of the sea as well?" She asks with an interested tone, as it certainly made her curious.

Ash Tenou tilted his head at the offhanded comment of Johnann's own unorthodox dating life and shrugged. "It really is a funny story how we met but... two years now. Working out so far." He playfully swatted at Miwa's hair. "I get you can find anything in a place like this but sorta annoys me there aren't any good malasadas... I mean yea people sell them, but... Maybe I'm spoiled for having pretty much lived in Alola." A glance to Miwa, "I mean... Doughnuts aren't the same."

Johann blushes slightly as he's called out on his comment about his own love life. "Ah, vell, zere vas zis... creature, named Serenity. I haven't seen her in a couple of years now, but ve had a relationship, yes. She vas somezing akin to a... cuttlefish, I suppose is ze closest analog. A cephalopod, in any case." he explains, then laughs a little about the malsada remark. "Perhaps you should put in a request mitt ze Usual's cook, hm?"

Miwa frowns when Johan says he hasn't seen the lady in question for years, having hoped to potentially have an aquatic friend to look forward to meeting. "Ah, that's too bad. Pretty name though..." She offers, not really sure what else to say. She wasn't even sure what a cuttlefish was but decides not to ask and takes to the subject of the malasadas.

"We could also maybe try a go at making some. Might be fun?" Or considering she's never cooked anything and she's not sure about Ash either, it could end in disaster. "In any case, very nice to meet you..." She trails off at the end trying to remember if the man gave his name or not, coming up with a blank.

"It may well be more of an emotional thing than the actual pastry," He gestured to a bench before starting towards it. "Me and Miwa haven't really been here long. Still getting used to the fact our home pretty much built itself and so many things are 'free' above and beyond 'basic getting newcomers on their feet' essentials." Granted he liked the fact this place had to be at some level beyond the usual metrics of scarcity economics rather than corpus-like worshipping of profit, but it was still unnerving.

"Then there's the fact I'm trying to figure out what to do with myself... which is kinda why my lady and I are in the park. A little workout does the mind as well as the body good."

Considering Ash hadn't ever really cooked aside from preparing fish he had caught? Probably a disaster in the making. "Ah... I," His voice faltered, "I do hope your lady is well at least." He knew nothing of why they were no longer together. Maybe a portal had taken her away. Maybe they fell out of love. He didn't know but wanted to sound diplomatic in the face of a very sensitive subject.

Johann nods to Miwa. "Ja, her name vas very pleasant. As vas her voice, and ze scent of mint she alvays had about her, and ze colors on her soft skin... A bit like a living modern art painting, actually, come to zink about it." He has another little chuckle at that, then nods. "Johann, yes. I introduced myself before, but you vere perhaps too busy to notice."

He also nods to Ash. "I hope so as vell. She simply... disappeared, one day, and I have not been able to find out vhere she vent. I suppose by now I should be over it and try pursuing other relationships, but... vell, it's hard to let go."

At Johann's further description of the woman, Miwa now wished even more that she could meet her. She gives another, deeper frown combined with an empathetic look, thinking about how she'd feel if Ash suddenly disappeared. "I'm sorry to hear that, I hope she is well also, and really wish I could have met her. Sounds like we'd have had at least a bit in common, I've been a performer my whole life, and have put a lot of effort into my singing, even though my species has a natural talent."

She wasn't as unnerved by the place as Ash was, just felt a little like a fish out of water since it was so different from what she's used to, and was trying to find how she and Ash would fit here, even if it seemed she could make a good living as a performer here.

"Give your heart away and it is very difficult to get back, much less give to another." Ash's voice was soft. Then to Johann, "I would like to meet her if she ever finds her way back." He looked the doctor over, taking the measure of this man in. To him, it was clear the man had led a long and rough life beyond any years his face showed. I suspect you've got a lot of stories to share when work isn't grabbing you by the scruff."

He stretched, causing a series of small pops to come from different points in his body. As it turns out getting bodyslammed by a sealion alongside a wall of water did Things to the body, even one as tough as his. "Just as a bit of an explainer. Where Miwa's from has a lot of non-human creatures of varying intelligence... or interest in dealing with people, that live alongside humans. There's a whole lot of history to unpack there but they generally make it work. She's from what would be Hawaii on most other earths I'd seen before we landed here." There was a pause and a chuckle before gesturing to the lake, "Actually over there, about a ten-meter drop just above the water."

Johann lets out a small sigh, then smiles at Miwa. "I appreciate your condolences, and I'm sure she vould have loved to meet you as vell. Ren alvays liked meeting new people. She vas a very outgoing person, in spite of ze differences in, er, physical form." A moment later, he asks, "You sing? I enjoy a bit of opera, myself. Perhaps I should attend a show, if you put one on in town."

Then, turning to Ash, he nods. "Yes, zat is very true. Some may forget more easily zan others, but I am not one of ze lucky ones in zat regard. Miwa's vorld certainly sounds very interesting, however. It vould be nice if I could visit it... someday, perhaps." He grins as Ash tells him of how they arrived. "Vell, I could zink of vorse zings to land on, at least. Perhaps a mattress truck vould have been funnier."

Miwa laughs and nods. "You could say we made a nice splash. Too bad some of the food Ash brought along was ruined, but indeed it could have been a lot worse." She says with a shudder as she thinks back to the time a portal tossed her into a desert world. She honestly thought she was going to die that day. "As for putting on a show, I am planning on doing something. Just need to plan it and decide on where, though for my purposes the beach might be best actually, that's where I had my last one back home... Unless there's a concert hall here that you want to outfit with a large pool." She adds with a giggle.

Ash Tenou let out a laugh at the joke, "Oh it really is the little moments." He looked down at where the z-ring sat on his wrist before looking to Miwa, "Does make me wonder if anyone else from Alola have landed here. Maybe not yours, or even Kanto, or Sinno..." He had remembered talks they had over visiting Galar once they'd found out they wouldn't bar Primarina from entering.

Arceus wasn't on their approved lists. How in the Void were Galar rent-a-cop border guards supposed to keep freaking ARCEUS out? That mental image made him chuckle, but... story for another day.

"I mean our home has a recording setup and didn't you say the arena's acoustics checked out for practice sessions? It'd be good to try prepping for something a bit more public." Sure, he missed Miwa's first solo show, but he'd love to help her out here. Then at her own idea of a concert hall with a pool, "Mabasa's supposed to be like... this stitchwork of stuff that falls through the multiverse. Ther'es bound to be something we could make work. The hard part's figuring out what it'll take to get everything together and advertise."

Another chuckle from Johann as he imagines the scene, then he scratches his chin at the mention of a concert hall. "Vell, I don't know of any in particular. Ze clinic doesn't leave me much time to explore everyzing zis place has to offer, after all." Then Ash chimes in with a suggestion, and the doctor shrugs. "As good a place as any to start, really. I cannot do much to help ze preparations, zhough I am sure medical experts are alvays a velcome addition in case of any accidents. Perhaps I could put up flyers, once you decide on a location and date?"

Miwa smiles at the offers from both Ash and Johann. "I can imagine running a clinic does keep you pretty busy, but appreciate offering to help anyway. If you can help put out flyers to get the word out, I'll happily make sure you have a ticket for you and a friend if you wanna bring anyone. In the meantime, I'll start practicing and working out a show routine, and Ash, I suppose we can work together finding a good venue."

Ash Tenou nodded at Johann's apparent inability to leave work for long, "Every doctor I've met is pretty much the same. Long shifts and odd hours. You're a good man doc." He put a hand on Johann's shoulder and Johann might feel a grip that was far firmer than Ash's slender frame would suggest. Then his hand would fall away. "Yea I'm gonna have to get more active in your concerts prep and running," Seeing as her usual helpers were on the other side of whatever brought them here. Then cheerily he adds, "This'll be fun." Scary, but fun.

Johann is a bit surprised by Ash's strength, but then, he's been around a while and has met some pretty odd people, so he doesn't question it. "Vell zen, I vould say zat is a good plan to begin viz at least. If I hear anyzing about a concert hall or ze like, I vill of course let you know. I typically frequent ze Usual vhen I am not vorking." he says, clapping Ash on the shoulder in return and giving Miwa a friendly smile. "Best of luck, you two."
Title = A Sparkling Aria Surprise
|Summary = Miwa sings and puts on a bubble show at the fountain, and discovers a pony
|Who = Miwa, SilverSight
|Date = August 17, 2019.
|Where = Truce Fountain Courtyard
|Log= Miwa has returned to the fountain this evening, as while it's certainly no substitute for a real body of water like the lake or ocean, it has a certain elegant appeal that she feels suits her well. Impressive as it usually is, right now it's even more a sight to behold.

Miwa is balanced in a sort of sitting position on her tail as she sings a song which has a very tropical island sound to it, complete with the Hawian-esque language she is singing in. As she sings, spheres of water begin to rise from the fountain and almost dance along with the music in the air, some even taking on various bright colors.
SilverSight suddenly finds himself rising up inside a sphere of the substance! The pony looks quite surprised, especially when it starts changing colors! This was apparently not the best time to be having himself a bath in the fountain. He does manage to get his head out to be able to breathe properly however. Air is good.

Air is good indeed, also good that Miwa has gotten a lot better at making her water orbs tougher, even when filled with air, as she often uses them to get around herself in a rather unique way of attaining flight. Having one pop and falling to the ground is not good for one's health. She is rather surprised to see the pony inside one of her colored water spheres, however, and it causes a little stutter in her song which also causes the spheres to move a little erratically before she regains control. She continues, looking up at the pony she inadvertently gave a ride, wondering if they wanted to come back down or not.

SilverSight does look around for a moment, wondering what had started this sudden movement of waters. Once the erratic movement occurs during the singing, he determines that the Pokeperson is responsible! He ponders for a moment and his horn starts to glow, as does the sphere of water he's in. With careful manipulations of levitation, he manages to move the sphere around himself to in front of her, though it's taxing to move like this. A pony levitating themselves to 'fly' around is typically considered fairly advanced magic. He looks up wetly to the singer, "Hello to you too."

Miwa watches as the combo of pony and water sphere begin glowing and moving toward her, and far from resiting it, she does her best to help the sphere along. At SilverSight's greeting, she blushes a little and looks upon him apologetically. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was in there. I hope you didn't mind the bubble ride, it's sort of one of my specialties. I'm Miwa, a Primarina from the Alola region, though you probably still have no idea what or where that is I guess..."

SilverSight shakes his head, "I'm aware that you are a Pokemon creature, having overheard a conversation about it, but I know very little about them other than there's a whole bunch of different kinds." A soft smile is given, "I don't mind the bubbble, though it was certainly quite surprising. Quite an interesting power and nice song."

Miwa nods, smiling as her apprehension/embarrassment over the situation seems to evaporate as SilverSight is set back down on Terra Firma while the remaining orbs in the air burst and briefly shower the area in a fine mist. "Word travels fast around here I guess, as far as I know I'm the only Pokemon here. As for the power and the song, thank you. It's sort of a signature of Primarina, and the song is one I often sang on the beach back home. Guess I'm feeling a little homesick."

SilverSight shakeshakeshakes himself up a bit once he's back on all four hooves and after the water rains down. He looks over to where he placed his labcoat and saddlebags, making a brush levitate out of the bags to float over and start grooming his fur down, "I am also the only pony here that I'm aware of thus far. I suppose there's Sunset, but she changed into a human somehow."

Miwa blinks. "From pony to human? That's quite a transformation. Seems like it was permanent? Still I guess that doesn't mean you can't be friends. My fiance is a human actually. It didn't even ever feel strange either since things developed so gradually..." She offers as she gazes up at the sky a moment, letting her thoughts wander a bit.

SilverSight nickers softly, "Well she is kinda sorta my current boss, so there's that. We've been fixing up the local library since it was in such a state of disuse." He tilts his head curiously at the mention of the human, "Fi-yan-say? Not sure I'm fully aware of that particular term."

Miwa is quiet a moment as she tries to think of how to explain the word. "Are you aware of the concept of marriage? It's a step before that..." She offers with a smile. "Library huh? I may have to make a visit sometime. A few good books to read might be nice in this strange new world. I promise I won't bring them back soaking wet, or at least I'll try my best." She says with a giggle and a quick wink.

SilverSight nodnods, "I would be quite appreciative if the books were returned dry. They tend to laster longer that way." He ponders the somewhat explained concept and hmms, "I'm aware of marriage, but such things pretty much never happened in my homeworld at the time I was there. Nobody had time for standing on ceremony for the most part. Depending on where and how you lived, it'd could be rare to even see any general mating partner again."

Miwa nods and grins a bit in agreement about the books. "One of paper's biggest shortcomings, surely." She replies jovially but soon takes a more serious expression and frowns a bit at SilverSight's mention of how things worked when it came to marriage or lack thereof where he comes from. "I'm sorry to hear that. Marriage is not a common concept with Pokemon, but it's certainly common to see pairs mate for a long time, sometimes for life."

SilverSight smiles, "Don't worry, I'm much happier these days now that I'm no longer in said world. Though I have yet to find myself any eligable partners for myself around here." He rubs the brush under his chin and shrugs, "Not that I've been all that active in really trying."

"No need to rush things, particularly if you're content as things are. I certainly wasn't really looking myself. A friendship just sort of blossomed into something more." Miwa replies as she watches the pony groom himself, finding the way he can move the brush with what looks like the glow of his horn rather interesting, but after a bit, a thought occurs to her and she looks at her reflection in the fountain to check if her hair was out of place at all. She notices a stray strand sticking out and tries to smooth it down with one of her flippers.

SilverSight hmmms, "Well it's not like I'm 'rushing' really. I was removed from my homeworld around... two years ago now? Though most of that time was spent in Neo Tokyo before I ended up here somehow. Having to make all new friends cetainly didn't help any."

Miwa shakes her head. "I did not mean to imply that you were, was just making a general statement. As for making new friends, I've been trying to do the same. I'd be happy to be your friend if you'd like that." She offers warmly with a bright smile.

SilverSight smiles softly, "I would not object to having a new friend when offered at all! If I've not introduced myself properly, my name is Silver Sight, from the Equestrian Wastelands." He'll offer up a hoof to the pokemon, "It's good to make your acquiantence, Miwa."

Miwa smiles back and bumps flipper to hoof. "Nice to meet you also SilverSight. Sorry I had to interrupt your bath or swim for it to happen. I'm glad it doesn't seem like it was too unwelcome of an interruption to whatever you were doing in the fountain before I started singing."

SilverSight accepts the bumping and he gives a small shrug, "Well I was having a bath, yes. I do currently live at the library mentioned and it lacks such facilities. If I do not keep up a regular hygine regimen, I apparently do not smell great."

Miwa nods. "I imagine that puts a damper on any attempts at socializing with others that call this place home. I hope I smell alright. I imagine back home I probably smelled like the ocean, but I've been at the lake a bit more here. Something about the ocean here gives me chills."

SilverSight hmms and leans in to give a few sniffings at the aquatic type of Pokemon, "Seems alright to me. Though I haven't been down to the ocean all that much myself. Not that I find it fearsome or anything, but.. I can't swim."

Miwa looks relieved to hear she smells alright, at least in the opinion of her new friend, though also looks almost pained to hear that he can't swim, how horrible. "I'm sorry to hear that, though perhaps I could try helping you with it sometime, if you'd like that. Certainly wouldn't want to pressure you into anything just because I enjoy it. Though being an aquatic creature and disliking swimming would be rather awkward I must say at the thought."

SilverSight chuckles softly to that one, "I do agree. It would be unusual if a naturally water-bound creature could not swim. I imagine that most ponies can as well, but I simply never had any experience at doing so in my homeworld, since most of the water tended to be a bit radioactive."

Miwa shudders at that revelation. "Oh my, I think even I'd avoid it at all costs if I was on your world. That sounds rather... bad for one's continued existence among the living. Still, offer stands, if you'd like to learn I'd be happy to help. I'm sure if you kick those legs right it'll work out, and I can make sure you don't drown in the process of getting it down. Drowning is generally counter productive to learning." She says with a laugh trying to make light of the concept a bit.

SilverSight nodnods with a smile, "Sounds fair to me. I will hold you to your offer and promise of keeping me alive in the process. Such things are why I'm quite happy to be out of my own homeworld, even if I've been shunted around a little in these multi-dimensional hub worlds."

Miwa sighs a little and shakes her head. "It is rather odd isn't it? I mean for me, I was not even aware there were other worlds or dimensions beyond my own, and then portals were discovered leading to other places, and for a while some from other worlds visited my home, and I visited others, it's how I met the aforementioned human who's now my fiance. But there was something strange about the vine... that's what everyone was calling them back where I cam from... that brought us here, and now we can't seem to get back. I can understand not wishing to get back to your world, but mine... it was rather nice..."

SilverSight hmmms, "I've only been to a couple worlds myself. The first time was.. well it's a long story, but basically I tried to teleport somewhere and my magic ended up being supercharged and it took me from my homeworld to Neo Tokyo. Got used to being there, made friends, visited a world or two with them. Then one day I was going into the Usual, which seems to exist in every dimension at once, and when I exited I was here in Mabase City instead."

Miwa blinks. "Wow, that's some magic, even if it wasn't what you intended. There are some Pokemon that can teleport using psychic energy, only to a place somewhat nearby, though I wonder if some might be powerful enough to do something like what you did. There are some Pokemon that are far stronger than I am."

SilverSight's horn proceeds to glow and he proceeds to pop out of existance! He'll proceed to walk out from a nearby alley between two buildings to return to his previous location, "Well at the time I was.. kinda sorta trying to disarm a megaspell bomb, which was full of immense magical energy. I um.. failed to disarm it. The energy it released when I tried to get away is what supercharged my spell."

Miwa watches as he demonstrates his teleporting. "That's still a pretty cool ability, and unintended or not, I'm happy it ultimately brought you to finding your way here so we could be friends. But I should probably be getting back home soon. I'll be sure to come see you at the library though!"

SilverSight nodnods and nickers, "Sure thing. I'm all cleaned up now anyway and have made a new friend. So all is well today! I do hope you have a good night and enjoy your fiancey thing."

Miwa nods and laughs. "He's an odd one at times, but I love him." She offers with a wave of one flipper. "Take care and have a good night as well!" And with that she starts walking down the street, ambling along fairly well for walking on her flippers.

{{Logsummary|

|Species=Primarina
|Short=As a Primarina, a Pokemon well known for its vocal prowess, it's not terribly surprising that Miwa has a history as a performer and more recently as a freelance vocalist. What is likely more surprising is that she has learned to sing in both English and Alolan (Hawaiian in the Pokemon World). She is very independent and has worked all her life to refine her singing, and while once she only used her special abilities for show in performances, she has more recently focused much more on training for real combat to be more able to defend herself or others. Otherwise, while she has already met someone who has grown to be rather special to her, she is still young and trying to find her place in the world, and finding herself in Twisted City is likely to turn her life upside down for a while.
|Extra1=
|Age=17
|Birthdate=April 14
|Height=6 Feet
|Weight=184 Pounds
|Desc=Miwa is a female Primarina, a Pokemon that looks roughly like a cross between a sea lion and a mermaid. Her body is pearly white from the top of her head down to her waist. She has a slender, triangle-shaped head and a cone-shaped muzzle, with a bubblegum pink sphere for a nose at the end. Her eyes are cerulean blue with a pink pupil and sky blue iris and framed by long eyelashes. There are three white spheres above her forehead with the middle one being larger, with a pair of pink starfish on either side. Behind this is a ruffled semitransparent fin that shimmers in blues and purples, with gentle repeating curves at the end like the edge of a fancy clamshell. Altogether the arrangement looks like a sort of tiara. Beyond that flows her waist-length aquamarine hair, pulled into a ponytail by two strings of pearls.

The upper part of her arms are slender, but they gracefully taper out to form her front fins, which have three thick digits. Her shoulders, upper chest, and back are partially concealed by a semitransparent frill like the one atop her head, which forms a tight 'u' shape in front before ringing around the back of her neck. There is a similar frill around her waist, along the hard break between the white of her torso and her long fishlike tail which is a bright royal blue. It has small pointed pink fins poking out from the hip area of her tail, and the end of her tail flares out into a sky blue frill, with her white tail fins just beyond that, making it look like the end of her tail has a little built-in skirt.

She doesn't generally wear much in the way of clothing unless inclement weather calls for it. She does however often wear some protective covers, socks of a sort, over her flippers for protection when she's likely to be moving around on land a lot. She also has a silver necklace around her neck, from which hangs a small Pokeball which is white on top and cerulean blue on the bottom, with an ocean wave pattern across the equator, and a round-cut pink sapphire for the button.

|Extra2=Flaws:<br />
Vain: Miwa takes pride in her appearance, and thus she strives to always be seen at her best. She tries to avoid getting dirty, and would be quite distressed to find a blemish, or worse, a scar, upon herself.

Her Voice is Her Power: Like any Primarina, perhaps even more so being a performer, her voice is very important. It not only brings her great joy, as well as helping to pay the bills, but is also vital to her battle strategy and her signature aquakinetic attacks. She must always be mindful to avoid injuring her throat or vocal cords. A minor injury might weaken her abilities or make them painful to use, but to lose her voice entirely, even temporarily would be a severe handicap and potentially devastating for her.

Made for the Sea: While she is able to walk, or even run over short distances using her strong front and back flippers like feet, it's a lot more work for her than swimming. While her ability to ride atop or inside her water balloons helps mitigate this weakness to an extent, her water balloons can be popped or evaporated by an attack, causing her to fall back to the ground.

Weakness to Poison: As a part fairy type Pokemon, Miwa is more susceptible to the effects of poisons. Not only will poison type Pokemon moves deal double damage, but even man-made or natural poisons found on her own or other worlds will have increased potency.
|Background=Personality: Miwa is a friendly, generally positive Pokemon who loves both people and other Pokémon (animals too!). Nothing makes her feel more alive than the roar of applause at the end of a performance. She's been lucky to have worked with an amazing group of talented and kind people during her life and has learned a lot, but knows she will always have room to grow. Although she’s been on her own for over a year, she is still figuring out how she fits in the wider world and what she wants to do with her life. Another fear that she tries not to admit to any but her close friends, is that she is afraid of the dark. One of her hobbies apart from the obvious ones related to her performing arts is collecting shells and pearls.

Background: For as long as she can remember, Miwa has been the companion of a man named Kaleo Akamu. Kaleo is the owner, as well as one of the founding members of the ‘Kailani’ musical theatre troupe. The troupe commonly traveled around the different islands of the Alola region, and sometimes other regions beyond in the Pokemon World, performing shows. Once Miwa was integrated into the show, they tended to have their shows near the ocean or a large lake so that she would have a place to swim. When this wasn’t possible, they would set out pools around the stage for her to leap between. As a Popplio, she was usually more comic relief than anything else in the show, but she always strived for more and practiced hard to perfect her water ballet. As she grew more confident and graceful, she also eventually evolved into Brionne and finally, Primarina and the fans of Kailani really were taking a liking to her.

Now fully evolved, Miwa really came into her own. Her graceful aquatic dance reached new heights, and her voice really struck a chord, judging by how much louder the cheers and applause from the audience became, it was clear the group had a star on their hands. For a time, Miwa was content, but that didn’t last long. As she listened to people talk about the songs sung by the other performers in the troupe, she decided that if she truly wanted to express the meaning of her songs to the audience, she would have to learn to speak their language. It was not an easy task, only made tougher by the fact that people in the Alola region speak both Alolan and English. Eventually, with lots of help from Kaleo and her other castmates, Miwa learned to speak and sing in both languages. At first, she usually sang pre-written songs or ones that Kaleo wrote for her to sing, but eventually, Kaleo taught her how to write her own music. It created a bit of a sensation, as no one had ever heard of such a thing. Miwa soon became one of the most famous Pokemon in Alola, if not the world.

After riding high on the excitement and fame for a while, Miwa began to get tired of the constant attention, more frequent shows, and grueling travel schedule that came with it. She wanted to get away from it all for a while, just have some time to herself, and enjoy life as it came to her. She explained her feelings to Kaleo, and though it saddened him to lose her, both because she had been with him for so long, but also because she was such a big part of the show now. Still, he reluctantly agreed to let her go. He loved her too much to force her to continue performing against her will, and ultimately, he hoped that eventually, Miwa would come back someday when she was ready.

Since then, Miwa has gotten quite comfortable living on her own, and has done plenty of adventuring, met all sorts of people, and seen lands she couldn’t have dreamed of. She has also grown a lot stronger. Where once she really only used her various attack abilities for show as part of the performances, she has trained with the help of her friends, to use her abilities in the defense of herself and others. Now it would seem an errant portal she thought was just an ultra wormhole, has sucked her in and brought her to the city of Twisted. What new adventures await the siren of Alola?
|Skills=Aquakinesis: The signature ability of the Primarina species is the ability to control water through song, forming balloons of water ranging as small as a fist or as large as an elephant, and controlling their movement. Miwa can make these balloons sturdy enough to support herself or others atop or within them, or make them volatile, exploding when touched. She can also control the shape of the balloons beyond just simple spheres.

Water Type: Like most water-type Pokemon, Miwa can store a lot of water within her body and expel it through her mouth. She can control the pressure also, from a light spray or stream of bubbles, to a powerful firehose like torrent. She often uses this ability to keep herself from drying out when on land on a hot day. She can also lower her internal temperature and create anything from a blast of freezing wind mixed with shards of ice, to an ice beam which freezes nearly anything caught in its blast.

Dazzling Gleam: Miwa is able to draw power from the moon itself and focus it into a bright orb of light which she launches at her target. She can also use the power to instead fire many weaker beams of light in all directions, creating a disorienting light show.

Siren's Song: Miwa can use the combination of her singing and a captivating dance to lull others to sleep with a powerful lullaby. This tends to work best on animals, other Pokemon, and the weak-minded. It can still work on others, but there is much more of a chance they can resist its effect.
Otherwise, while she has already met someone who has grown to be rather special to her, she is still young and trying to find her place in the world, and finding herself in Twisted City is likely to turn her life upside down for a while.

Pola and Pinky have been on Twisted for a few weeks now, and are starting to feel more comfortable there. It wasn't the same as Neo Tokyo, but still somehow felt familiar in some ways even so. Today the pair head to the park in the afternoon, having hit up a local pizza joint after school. Pola is riding on Pinky's back while holding the pizza box and another bag that looks to contain a large bottle of soda along with a few cups. After entering the park, Pinky heads over to a stand of picnic tables, at which point Pola hops off and starts setting everything down on the table. "Ah, a nice relaxing day at the park and a delicious pizza after the horror that is school, and I get to enjoy it with the best bird in the world." She comments with a grin, giving Pinky a gentle hug. "I'm starting to wonder if we didn't get the stuff Kat left behind about the portal stuff wrong, maybe she's not here, but it's still not a bad place."

Katherine has had a much less restful time here in Twisted. When she and Vera mastered the technology to tear holes into the fabric of time and space, she’d been ecstatic. She’d managed to attain the very thing she’d been working her fingers to the bone to do…well, that among about a 1000 other projects, but still. That first jump had been historical and Katherine’s luck felt like it had finally reached the apex of DAMN good! The second jump…eh. It’s been about a month since that second jump and it has gone as poorly as it possibly could. No matter how many times she’s tried to regain contact with R&D, it’s useless. Still, she hasn’t stopped trying. Today, like most every other day before it Katherine finds herself back at the park where she landed and attempts to reach Vera back on Neo. Again her attempts at success are zero. “Do you copy? Vera…Jodie?...Tanaka? ANYONE….Is this a joke? It’s gotta be a joke, right? Oh, ha ha. You got me! You got the boss. Okay, time to wrap it up now and bring me back home. You copy? Beam me up, or whatever the fuck you have to do…just get me the hell outta here!” Yes, nearly every day the scene plays out like this. Some of the other park goers are starting to take her for a lunatic….she might pass for one, Commander’s uniform rumpled and her nerves fraying a little more each day. Somehow she’s not yet taken notice of the oversized pink ostrich. Her back is to the pair and, let’s face it, she’s really….REALLY….REAAAALLY deep in her own foul mood.

Pola doesn't immediately notice Katherine either, as she's busy pouring a soda for herself and another for Pinky and getting some pizza onto plates. Pinky though hears the familiar voice and eyes the woman, then moves a little closer to Pola and taps the girl with a wing a bit. Pola is about to take a bite when Pinky gets her attention and her gaze falls upon Katherine's backside, and for a moment she just stares. No, it couldn't be, could it? Finally, she drops her slice of pizza back on her plate, which Pinky promptly eats for her. Pola slowly walks toward the familiar-looking woman, hearing her voice now as well. "K... I mean, Mom!? Is that you?"

Katherine is vaguely aware of someone addressing her from behind and at first she tunes it out, assuming it to be one of the various bums or panhandlers that seem to flock to her these days. Seriously? What’s it going to take for them to realize she’s as destitute as they are? IT’s the uniform, I tell you. Something does grab her attention, though. Be it something familiar in the voice or something that sounded distinctly like the word “mom,” it’s enough to prompt the woman to turn her glare from the nearby pond and level it on the figure now facing her. “-Uh-, I’m sorry, whu--? Listen, I think you’ve got the wro-----” The expression on Katherine’s face could only be described as sardonic. She’s fully prepared to let someone know they’ve got the wrong person and that they should fuck right off too but something remarkable happens instead. Her face goes utterly blank as she comes face to face with her very own adopted daughter…only…something’s different, isn’t it? “…Pola?” She asks, sounding like she’s in the thick of some kind of crazy dream. Hell, she might be after all. “Naaaw! Wait a sec. Couldn’t be." Error.Error.Does.Not.Compute.

Pola giggles a little and nods after how Kat reacts to the fact that she and Pinky are here now. "It's been, 3 or 4 years now I think? I'm sixteen now. For a while, I wasn't sure what happened to you, but when I decided it was probably something that happened with your work, and it didn't seem like you were coming back, I tried to find out what happened. The people you work with don't like giving up information, that's for sure. But I'm... persistent?" She says with a grin. "Eventually Vera met with me privately in my apartment and agreed to help me try to find you, and maybe bring you back. She spent a long time trying to make sure she had everything right and I'd end up in the same place you went, though in the end she still wasn't 100% sure. Looks like it worked out though. Unfortunately, the getting back part might be a problem. The portal kinda dumped me and Pinky into the pond and the device Vera gave me to take with me... is at the bottom right now since I dropped it when we hit the water." She says with a frown as she heads over to have a seat at the picnic table.

As Pola had been talking, Katherine’s hopes had been rising on gossamer wings towards the prospect of a bright and shiny tomorrow where she would be rescued and find her way back home. In the end, Pola’s situation is almost exactly the same as Katherine’s. “Aw damn, “She says, snapping her fingers. “No, it doesn’t matter anyway. This thing,” she says holding up her own little device, “Isn’t worth a hill of beans. Mine’s in perfect condition, it’s just crap that’s all.” She shrugs and is half-tempted to just pitch hers into the pond too…though she can’t -quite- bring herself to do that just yet. “4 years? I’ve only been here a month, Twisted time. There’s some squirrely temporal shenanigans at work here….but enough about that. My Good, look at you kid!” Katherine takes Pola by the shoulders just stares at her the way only a mother could, regardless of how sociopathic. “You turned out alright…And you came for me. I…” She has no idea what to say. No one’s ever done anything remotely as self-sacrificing as this for her. She’s not the happily ever after family type. She’s more the “push the big red button and watch things go boom” type. It feels awkward and ill fitting and yet right now…it also feels damn good. “I guess I just don’t know what to say,” she confesses, laughing nervously. “Maybe…thank you? That’s probably the right one.”

Pola laughs as she grabs a slice of pizza for herself and pours a cup of cola for Kat, then pushes a plate and the pizza box containing a large sausage, onion, and roasted green and red pepper pizza, toward her so she can decide how much pizza she wants to put on her plate. "Well I guess Vera had no way of knowing that your device didn't work because of a flaw in the device, not from some accident or whatever. Oh well, guess we're both stuck here then, but at least we're stuck here together." Then Kat starts to get a little sappy about the fact that she came for her and Pola looks around as if to make sure no one important is within earshot, not that she really knows anyone around here yet anyway. "Alright, I'll admit it, I missed you, and I was a little worried something bad might have happened and that ultimately was why you didn't come back." She says with a smile. "Who else was going to take in the crazy bounty hunter girl and her ostrich friend, show us around the city, help us get on our feet again, be the one we could go to when we had a problem."

Katherine does help herself to pizza and soda. She isn't dainty about it either. IT looks bloody good and she hasn't had much more than snacky things recently. She settles onto the bench with her impromptu picnic and plays catchup with Pola who, honestly looks so damn grown up. How can that happen even in just 4 years?! Kids these days. Ah, but it's what she says that really gets her. If Pola thought she was a sap moments ago, it's nothing compared to the whistful expression she suddenly bestows on her. "Oh Pola. Pola, Pola. I...Jesus." She sits there, the plate on her lap, chewing her lip. A grin, "You're gonna make me cry. Please don't do that. I seriously don't need bigger bags under my eyes." Katherine tries to make a joke out of it but she's actually quite touched. "You know, of all the orphaned bounty hunting children I could have adopted, you and Pinky have gotta be the best ones. I'm not even kidding."

Pola smiles and laughs, shaking her head. "Alright, enough of the sappy stuff, although I'll say of course we're the best ones, we're the one and only Pinky and Pola, the coolest combo you'll find anywhere." She says with a wink, tearing off a bit of a slice of pizza and tossing it to Pinky, who catches it in her beak and promptly swallows it, Pola also gives her some cola to wash it down. This has got to be the most spoiled bird around. "So um, more importantly..." She says as she looks back to Katherine. "Are you OK? You look like you've had a rough week, to put it one way..."

Katherine pffs, waving a hand dismissively, "Oh, yeah fine. I mean, yeah sure, this is like the - what is it? - 4th time I've had my picture-perfect life turned upside down, reality shattered, left totally lone and like the SECOND time in a row I've become a cosmic castaway. But hey! Who's counting right?" Katherine laughs and tears into her pizza. "That's not bitterness you hear, though. That is the sound of being a survivor. You can't dwell in negativity. That's just no way to live so, you crack a self-deprecating joke, give the world the finger- "Which Katherine demonstrates on a happy couple and their child who oh so innocently stroll on by "and push on." She takes another bite of her pizza. "I'm great!"

Pola giggles and nods at Katherine's response. "Now that's the spirit, life kicks you in the ass, you kick it right back." She offers with a grin as she tosses Pinky the rest of her pizza, the bird needed the calories more than she did, with all that running. "I'm glad... We're glad to see you're hanging in there. I've been doing the good girl thing and going to school, but then Pinky and I usually hit the town after school, check out the bounty board, or just find something to do or somewhere to relax. We've been around enough I was wondering if you were even here, but I guess we've just been missing you and also not running into any locals who know you either."

Katherine blinks, "Wait, what? How long have you two been here? Hell, I didn't even know there was a bounty board..." And in a quiet mumble adds,"Wonder if I'm on it..." She never ceases to be amazed at just how resourceful this kid is. Reminds her of...well, herself.

Pola laughs and grins. "Haven't seen your name yet, if I had it'd at least have been a clue that you were possibly here, unless it was another by the same name, always a chance. As for the board itself, I was told about it my first day, bumped into this really pretty lady with the most awesome rainbow hair. Think her name was Rayne, police chief I think she said? She called in backup to take care of a thief that was robbing a store in the mall. Pinky and I stopped the robbery though and I think after Pinky keeping the perp pinned to the floor till the officers came will make him think twice about doing it again. Anyway Rayne offered me a job as an officer before I told her how old I was... then again, I'm not sure what I really want to do with my life yet. What do you think?"

Katherine listens, enjoying the slice of pizza that is more delicious than it has any business being. Somehow, picturing Pola and Pinky taking down a bank robber is ridiculously easy. Hell, she's seen her take out a warehouse full of poachers before, this had to be a cakewalk for her! "She offered you a job? Hah, That's funny. Well, not -FUNNY-, but you know. Predictable. I mean, in her shoes I probably would have done the same thing, except I'M not ageist." Another bite. Pola's question catches her a little off guard, though. "You're asking -me- what I think you should do with your life?...Kid! You can do anything. You don't need my advice, you've practically raised yourself. Your parents got themselves offed then your adoptive mother goes and zaps herself into an alternate dimension and here you are...thriving. I say, keep doing what you're doing. You can't miss....But if I were you, I wouldn't necessarily take my advice...so...damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Pola nods at the answers Katherine gives her, taking a few more sips of her soda while her gaze drifts to Pinky, who has found a nice sunny spot in the grass to relax for a bit now that her belly is full of pizza. "I guess I'll give it some thought, I have a year apparently, probably some stupid law or something.... guess I can't call them stupid if I'm an officer huh?" She adds with a chuckle. "Anyway I know I could take it and be fine, I don't really need the money, the rewards from the bounties are part of the rush but mostly it's the build up during the search and the action once you find them. I know I'd probably get some moments like that on the force, and I'd get to help people more, but I have a feeling more of their days are boring than exciting."

Katherine mmms, her lips pressing into a tight line. "Well, it's kind of a double-edged sword. Admittedly, I don't know much- that's to say, ANYTHING- about the laws that govern a place like Twisted, but I can tell you that there are advantages and disadvantages to working in the system...big ones. Let's see, " She says, counting off on her fingers, "If you sign on, you have a guaranteed paycheck, backup whenever you need it, probably some kind of crappy benefits package, and a Christmas bonus - oh, that's if they even have Christmas here. For all we know, it's Yorksmuck or some other crazy thing...Anyway, you can count on having all of that. You'll work your way up the ranks and since your chief is a lady, you probably won't have to worry too much about unsolicited attention, unwanted passes, or surprise rear pinches when you go to make copies...so that's a plus. You might even impress the old girl so much, she'll have you as her right hand, grooming you to take the reins once she's gone and retired. Now here's where it gets hairy---LAW. Because doing all of this means you pretty much beholden to whatever's in those big weighty books. There's no leeway there and sure you're guaranteed a paycheck but you're talking about a salary vs those nice big fat bounties you can pick and choose?Oh yeah, that's the other thing. You're probably not gonna have a lot of choice there. So maybe you'll wanna hunt down the next Ted Bundy but you'll be meter maiding it for the first couple of years. But hey! This is all you. It's your life and your decision and I've got no dog in this fight except that you do what gives you that thrill of the kill. That's what it's all about in the end. That and money.

Pola looks back to Katherine as she listens to what her mom has to say on the idea. "Yeah, I guess I can't really have it both ways, a steady job and the freedom I enjoy now. I guess the best thing I can do is find Rayne again and talk to her about it, ask all the questions about what I can expect if I do take her up on the offer in a year. For now I'll focus on being able to graduate so that I can actually take this offer if that's what I decide, or if something else I end up going for requires it."

Katherine says, "That's my pragmatic, ostrich riding, bounty-hunting girl. Ah, it's too bad though. I'd have offered you a job back home. Remember the Zoids? You pretty kickass then. Ahh, so much potential. -- Hey! Who's running the whole thing now? Who've they got running my department?" You'd better believe she's still claiming it as HER department. She built that division from the ground up and she'll be damned if someone else takes all the credit."

Pola frowns and shakes her head a bit. "Yeah, the Zoids were awesome, but we're here without them now, so I guess it's back to just Pinky and I, and you can't really offer me a job now that you're job is in another dimension or whatever. As for who's running things? I'm not sure who it is, might be the pompous blowhard that gave Pinky and I an earfull when I came asking about you."

Katherine says, "Jenkins? That sounds like Jenkins. Oohhhhhh I can just see him there, drinking my good coffee, sitting in my nice chair, ordering my guys around like he owns the place. Bastard." Katherine unleashes her vengeance on the bit of her pizza as if it might be this infamous Jenkins she just mentioned. She gulps down the rest of her drink. "Ahh, to hell with them...ALL of em! They were all so stuffy anyway....Except Vera. She came around, I mean, she helped you didn't she? I'm impressed. I guess we might really have been friends after all. Hah, the irony. You leave home forever just when you discover you actually had real friends...Like that Twilight Zone with the guy in the afterlife whose really into his books and now he's got eternity to read em when - Whoops! His glasses fall right off his face and that's all she wrote baby." At least she can see the humor in it. "I guess, Pola, the REAL irony is that you and I are in exactly the same position....figuring out what we're gonna do with the rest of our lives.""

Pola nods and laughs. "Yeah, screw 'em, except Vera, because she's cool, she totally did help me when no one else would, even though it might have gotten her in trouble if Mr Windbag found out. Anyway, yeah, we're both in the same boat now, you're right. At least now we have each other though, to hang out, bounce ideas, support one another. I mean, I have Pinky too, but let's be honest, she's a bird, she's a really smart bird, but she still doesn't know about people stuff like jobs and school."
Title =A Teenager an Ostrich and a Chaos Mage Walk Into The Usual
|Summary =Pola and Pinky enter the Usual for the first time but still find it oddly familiar, and have a chat with Nathan Xeos over pizza and cherry cola.
|Who =Pola, Nathan Xeos
|Date =December 22, 2019.
|Where =The Usual Restaurant
|Log=

Nathan Xeos is at the bar in the back, glass of egg nog in one hand, head in the other. He's not drunk, though some of the more festive atmosphere is making him wish he was.

A teenage girl wearing an orange and white jacket and jeans walks into the Usual, but it's what follows her that's much more likely to attract attention, an ostrich with pink feathers, an eye patch, and some golden ruby jewelry around it's neck, among other things. "Huh, not exactly like the Usual we're used to, but still feels somehow familiar..." The girl comments as she looks around, with the bird nodding in agreement. They then head further inside, looking around a bit in an attempt to decide where to sit.

"Well there's a familiar sentiment. I'm guessing another fellow unwitting dimensional traveler?" Nathan says, having overheard the comment about the unusual Usual. He takes a drink of egg nog, not paying much attention to the ostrich.

Pola grins and laughs a little. "Well, perhaps not quite so unwitting, since I came here hoping this is where a certain woman ended up disappearing to sometime ago. She was my adoptive mother, by the name of Katherine Lebedev. For a long time I wasn't sure quite what happened to her, but I eventually found some notes about dimensional portals, along with the device she used to make them."

Nathan Xeos nods. "Only you ended up here and or elsewhere instead of where they ended up. Yeah, these little balls of reality seem to have that going for them. At least going from here to elsewhere seems more doable." He shrugs.

Pola nods back and smiles. "I guess we'll see. I haven't been here long, still looking around a bit. But if it does take going from here to somewhere else to find her, I will. I.... kinda miss her." She admits as Pinky pats her slightly with a wing, and then both girl and bird start heading toward the bar, with Pola looking up at the man again. "Mind if I join you?"

"Only rule is no Christmas carols." Nathan replies. "Heard enough of those already." He mutters. He finishes his glass, placing it down on the counter.

Pola laughs and hops up onto the next barstool, and Pinky moves to stand by the next one after that. "Deal! I totally agree, heard enough of them to last a lifetime." She offers with a tone of disgust. "I'm Pola by the way, and my feathered friend there is Pinky, don't worry, she doesn't bite, much." She says with a grin, then ponders a bit what to order, eventually deciding and waving down the barkeep. "Hey barkeep, can we get a large pepperoni pizza over here and two cherry colas?"

Nathan Xeos would be fine even if the bird did bite. Granted blood magic gets messy, but still. "Nathan Xeos, magical idiot." He says with a wave. "I swear they start playing sooner every damn year."

Pola nods in agreement. "It's like a disease, slowly spreading till it takes over the entire year. A younger me might think it's great, but I'm now an orphan and a bounty hunter, the holiday just doesn't have the same charm it used to." She says with a sigh. "Anyway, nice to meet you Nathan." She offers just as the drinks are delivered, and she grins, taking a sip.

"Its also hard to celebrate with various eldritch beasties breathing down your neck as well... Not to mention the weird ones that come out this time of year." He sighs. "Those are always fun." Nathan spins a finger in the air, his empty glass replaced with a full one.

That raises an eyebrow as Pola doesn't know what an eldritch is, but she shoots Nathan an interested expression. "Never heard of an eldritch, what sort of strange beasties are you talking about? Sounds dangerous." She says with a grin that gives the impression she likes the prospect. Pinky is listening too, but stays quiet at first, besides grabbing her glass in her beak and letting the cola pour down her throat before setting it back down and letting out a burp. "Excuse you featherbutt." Pola comments, giving the bird a playful slap on the back, to which Pinky finally grunts. "You try drinking from a glass with a beak!"

Nathan Xeos hums. "Oh, you know, colors out of space, the shambling dead, creatures from the depths of the ocean and lost to time... That kind of thing." He says, with a slight shrug. "The kind of thing that is just as likely to drive one to madness as it is to shred your face."

The pizza finally arrives and Pola tosses a couple slices onto a plate for Pinky before getting a couple for herself, and starting to eat one as she listens to Nathan. After a few bites she grins a little. "So all that happens around here then? And more often this time of year you said? Well, guess we won't be bored at least."

"Well, kind of. Back home at least. Things get weird around the holidays, especially ones like Halloween. Here? All I've seen is snow and some carolers trying not to fall off the sidewalk." Nathan says, taking a drink of eggnog. "If they showed up here, it'd give me something to do."

Pola suddenly looks disappointed, but keeps eating her pizza while Pinky does the same, rather quickly tearing into the slices she was given. "Oh, that's a shame. Snow and carolers are way less exciting, way way less... Oh well, there's gotta be other things around here causing trouble."

"Maybe at some point, but not recently it seems. The whole place isn't... stable. I could see anything coming through at almost any time. Hell I've been expecting some weird alternate version of myself to show up just because." Nathan shakes his head. "Hasn't happened yet though."

Pola nods, grabbing herself a third slice and giving the rest to Pinky. "Well, I guess we'll just have to keep an eye out then. If things are as wobbly as you say, I agree surely something bad will happen sooner or later."

Nathan Xeos waves his hand around, doing... some kind of gesture. "And if something doesn't crawl out of a portal, well, this place is more than likely going to have something screw up with either me or someone else. At least no one's going get hit by lightning around the fountain anymore."

Pola winces a bit at the thought of the two of them getting stuck by actual lightning, just the idea brought back thoughts of Johnny's crazy girlfriend Barbara's lightning powers and stinging jellyfish, making her shudder. "That sounds awful. How many people did that happen to?"

"Me mostly. No one else was dumb enough to try to flip a coin." And it was only one bolt of lightning. He's had worse. "They don't call it Chaos magic for nothing." Most of the time it doesn't make 2+2 equal 1.21 Jigawatts 50% of the time, honest.

Pola grins and nods. "Magic huh? I didn't believe it was real till I met the dragon who gave Pinky her special collar that lets her talk, but I don't think I've seen chaos magic before, or magical lightning either."

Nathan Xeos nods. "In different flavors too. It's not everywhere, so it doesn't surprise me. The whole fountain thing was just an honest mistake, didn't mean to hit anyone with lighting, especially not myself." He would give a demonstration, but well, he's not a fan of getting manhandled by bouncers.

Pola giggles a little. "Only someone who practices magic could make such a statement. Maybe you could show us sometime, but for now, I think we should be going. It's getting late and I still need to figure out where the two of us are going to sleep tonight. It was nice meeting you!" She says as she stands and hops up onto Pinky's back as the bird moves back from the bar a bit.

Nathan Xeos waves to the leaving bird and her rider. "Sometime, but maybe not the chaos magic, hm?" He should get some sleep as well, at some point.

Pola waves back and heads out into the city, saying one last thing before she goes. "Sure, whatever you think is best. Have a good night, see you around I guess!"
|Summary =Pola and Pinky head to the mall for food, end up stopping a jewelry store robbery instead, then Rayne arrives to call in backup for the actual arrest and ends up talking a bit with the girl and bird duo.
|Who =Pola, Rayne
|Date =December 20, 2019.
|Where =New Market Mall
|Log=

New Market Mall

The New Market Mall immediately fulfills numerous checks on the list of what you expect from a mall. There is a distinct smell; a mixture of multiple perfumes, shiny retail items, and a miasma of various fast food scents. There are waxed floors, wide long walkways, and a neutral color scheme of beiges, whites, and faintly sickly greens.

The ceiling itself provides a large portion of light, wide panes of glass making up the majority of its structure. Set back about 20 feet from the main entrance sits a charming fountain, with raised marble and stone walls. The interior jets cycle through a few different colors and designs, and the water inside shows multiple coins representing flicked wishes.

There are potted plants and sofas placed strategically throughout the hallways, providing spots to rest on your spree. There's weaponry, clothing, a taxidermy store, candle shops, a pharmacy, photographer, a florist, a dollar store... more or less anything you can imagine your heart might desire!

It's... the mall! One of two major locations to go if you want to shop(The other being S-Mart, of course). And there, in the mall, amongst all the other people, is a rainbow haired woman wearing an outfit that wouldn't look out of place in a fantasy setting... though normally someone with that outfit in such a setting would easily meld into the background. It's just a leather cuirass over a green tunic with sturdy leather pants and sturdier boots. "...Why is it so crowded today?" she mumbles as she attempts to make her way towards whatever her destination is.

Pola hasn't been in town long, but probably fits in fairly well. She's not exactly wearing the height of fashion, but her clothes are at least normal enough, orange and white jacket, tight jeans, white boots. What likely does draw attention is the large pink ostrich that's giving her a ride. Does the mall even allow animals? She didn't read the rules sign at the entrance, and no one has told her otherwise, but the, would you want to be the mall security guard that tries to kick out a girl and her rather imposing 'pet' bird who's kick is known to be able to kill a lion? She's making her way through the food court which is the busiest part of the mall usually, pondering getting some food for herself and Pinky, when suddenly she hears breaking glass and screaming from not far away, and with a pat to the ostrich's side, Pinky actually looks like she grins a little and begins running toward the sounds of trouble.

Rayne pauses mid-step at the sound of breaking glass and screaming. There's that pause of a half-second to see if the screams are constant, or if this was just some accident that happens... but from the sounds of things, no, there's something more ongoing about this trouble. With a heavy sigh in contrast to the ostrich's grin, she starts making her way towards the kerfuffle, whatever it is.

Pola and Pinky come to the entrance of the store that is the source of the commotion just in time to hear a large man with a gun inside yell in a demanding tone. "Hurry up! Open the case with your best stuff and put it in this bag or I'll put a bullet in your face!" The shopkeep does as he's told, but as he sees Pinky and Pola his eyes widen with surprise at the very strange sight. The man with the gun follows his expression and turns around, staring in disbelief himself for a moment before finally aiming his gun and attempting to shoot at the pair, but his hesitation is enough for Pinky to leap into the store and send a flying kick toward the man's gut. His shot goes wild with the bullet going into the ceiling, and the man doubles over in pain. Pinky then bites his hand to get him to drop the gun before kicking it into the wall and pinning him to the ground with one of her feet. "That was great Pinky, he never had a chance!" Pola cheers and hops down, sticking her tongue out at the man who had attempted to rob the store. "I usually catch scum like you for money, but you're lucky, you got a freebie!" She says with a laugh, then wonders how long it'll be before the police get here to grab this goon. Now she was really getting hungry.

How long will it be, indeed? "Armed Robbery in progress at the Mall. Scratch that, bystander disabled the situation. Just send someone to pick up the perp." Apparently it will be very quickly indeed before the first cop strolls up. Of course, she was off duty, but Rayne never is without a radio. Ever. She walks right up to the trio of girl, ostrich, and gunman and looks down at the man with a look of sheer annoyance at him. "Unfortunately, I don't have any handcuffs on me. So you're going to have to have a large bird standing on you until backup arrives." Pola and Pinky, however, get a significantly less annoyed look. "Good work. Doesn't look like anyone's been injured." She pauses, then looks down again. "Well, maybe except him, but, well, he kinda asked for it, didn't he?"

Pola blinks as Rayne shows up and radios for backup like an officer, because she is one. Wow, that was fast. She grins though as the woman thanks her and Pinky, and mentions that the gunman is the only one who got hurt. "Well, I figure some bruises and maybe a cracked rib on him is better than a bullet in someone else. I'm Pola by the way, and this is Pinky." She offers in introduction, giving the large bird a gentle pat on the back. The shopkeep is finally recovering from the shock of all that just happened, and the fact that a pink ostrich is not only standing in his shop, but responsible for saving himself and his livelihood from a robber. "I can't believe what I'm seeing right now, but thank you both. You are welcome to have any single piece from my store as thanks." Offers the shopkeep, and suddenly Pinky's eyes light up at the offer and she starts looking around a bit. The bird did like her shiny things. "You're welcome. Was just around the corner and decided to lend a hand."

Rayne nods to the two of them as Pola introduces herself and Pinky. "Rayne Hurris. Chief of the MCPD. It's a pleasure to-" She pauses, then looks at the shopkeep with a raised eyebrow. "Really? A pink landbound bird is the strangest you've seen here?" Counter to the shopkeep, the rainbow haired woman(Chief of police? She looks like she's barely out of her teens, if even that) has no look of surprise or shock whatsoever at Pinky's appearance. She's seen stranger.

Rayne still misses Ren.

With a light shrug, Rayne looks back to... well, just Pola now, as Pinky appears to be distracted with other things. "I don't mind the help, that's for sure."

Pola also lets Pinky browse in peace, putting her own boot down on the gunman's back now while the shop keep does keep more of an eye on Pinky, but shakes his head at Rayne's question. "No, it's not that, it's...Nevermind." He decides not to elude to the fact that he would rather not have a large animal in his shop and how he's surprised Pinky was allowed into the Mall at all. Pola smiles at Rayne and nods. "Pleasure to meet you too! Chief of police huh? Pinky and I just might end up helping you some more sooner or later. We've been collecting on criminal scum like this thug since I was ten and a half."

With now only a child on top of the man, Rayne is not taking her eyes off of him. She's also resting a hand on the pommel of one of her swords. Totally not a threatening gesture, she's just... resting it there. Sure. "'Collecting'? Hurg. Another bounty hunter type, I see." For the briefest moment, she glances away. "...Wish I could find more patrol officers."
Pola frowns a bit at Rayne's apparent disappointment, and looks back at Pinky for a moment, apparently just as the bird picks out something. "I'll take this one!" She says as she points her beak at a hummingbird brooch, much to the surprise of the shop keep. "Yes, of course..." He says as he takes the piece and bags it, letting Pinky take the bag in her beak. Pola looks back at Rayne, thinking about what she just said. "So there's a lot of bounty hunters around then? I never thought about joining the police, could be an interesting change at this point. Maybe you can tell me more about it over some lunch, after your backup gets here." Finally she takes the bag from Pinky and attaches the brooch to her collar. "Now you're the largest bird, wearing the smallest one. Hilarious." She says with a giggle.

Rayne raises an eyebrow at Pola's apparent interest in joining the force. "...How old are you?" she asks carefully. She's not employing a child. She's attempting to run a /normal/ police force, thank you. On the other hand... Rayne knows quite well that people can be much older than they look. "But, yeah. We have a bounty board as well for situation where it's more difficult for a police officer to get into. And for some side things that aren't quite police work but still dangerous enough that you want someone that can handle those kinds of situations."

Pola lets her foot off the man as other officers arrive and salute Rayne, then two take the man into custody, while another questions the shop keep about the incident and fills out the report. "Well...., I'm sixteen." Pola answers reluctantly, having a feeling it's probably not the number Rayne wants to hear. "I'm not sure how old Pinky is, she kindof escaped from her original owner that was not treating her very well at all." Pola explains while leaving out the part about how she helped Pinky not get recaptured since that basically is another way of saying she stole Pinky, though technically she still kinda did either way whether the owner sent hunters after her or not. In any case, she figures she may want to check out this bounty board later.

Rayne frowns for a moment, then shakes her head. "Yeah, you've got another year on you before I can hire you proper. Bounty board is open to you, though." She glances over to Pinky again, then says, "Well, I don't know how to gauge your species for what ages means what, anyway." Yes, speaking directly to Pinky now that she knows she can talk. No, she didn't appear surprised by the revelation. Rayne is just too jaded by everything by now to really be surprised by that much. Though the plastic building toy lizard person managed to pull that off recently. And if Pinky can talk... Rayne considers her to be a full sentient being, and thus not someone that should have an 'owner'. The thought does cause Rayne to look down at her right hand, however.

Pola frowns as well and kicks the floor a little. "Damn... Oh well at least it's only a year, not two or five." She says to herself in consolation as she looks up to Rayne talking to Pinky, at which the ostrich turns her head toward the rainbow haired woman and shakes her head a little. "I think I might be younger than Pola, but I didn't keep track, didn't seem important. Also I'm sure she didn't mean to imply by 'original owner' that she's my new one, we're more like partners, friends even." Says Pinky as she gently nudges Pola affectionately, and Pola wraps her arms around the bird and hugs her gently. "Best friends, wouldn't have it any other way. Don't even want to think about where we'd both be if we never met."

Rayne glances between the two of them hugging, then glances away. "Yeah, well... I may have to figure that out if you're going to want to be partners under my direct employ. Anyways... you've got a year on that, anyway. Assuming you pass Kohaku's exit exams, of course." Because yes. There is school here. "And you don't screw up like that blonde kid did." Apparently there's a story behind that one that Rayne isn't in the mood to share. "But, what I think I'm trying to say here is that even if you're temporally younger, differences in species may put you at an adult level already. Different species have different growth rates, both physically and mentally, of course."

Pola frowns even more at the mention of school exit exams. "Alright, I'll be a good girl and go to school like a normal person." She says while feeling like saying it is the same as swallowing a bitter pill. "As for Pinky, she's certainly fully grown, and from what I read on ostriches, likely won't live much past about forty-five, as horrible as it feels to even say that. I'm hoping that maybe some of the mucking with her genetics that the scientists that created her did, will let her live longer too. I know she can fly, clearly is very smart, and also has teeth, which I still find a little strange, though at least it doesn't creep me out as much as when we first met." Pinky laughs and flashes a toothy grin just for effect. "I'm a perfectly mature adult bird, all my childish tendencies are her fault." Pinky jokes though she's semi-serious about it.
