|Power-Point Presentation, Twisted-style!|
You walk into a very large restaurant with high ceilings that leave the rafters exposed. Fluroescent lamps hang from the ceiling, adding light to the place and tables. Windows adorn the sides of the place, looking out onto the chaos that is Twisted. On some of the walls are paintings, photographs, and some holograms of different B-movies, and a number of people who tend to visit the UR as they're singing karaoke. The hardwood bar rests at the back of the place, it's surface polished and shiny and all together spotless (most of the time). Behind the bar are various beverages that are servered and a giant mirror. There seems to be an inordant amount of different drinks. A large stage rests in one of the corners of the restaurant, with an amazing sound system and a few microphones strung about it. Multiple round wood tables are in the room, and a swing door leads into the kitchen. Another door leads to the dance club, and another to the gym. And of course, there's and exit outside. A large fireplace rests in one of the walls, with a beautiful stone chimney that flows up and out. A long spiral staircase rests near the entrance to the kitchen, leading to a second floor balcony that overlooks the UR itself. The lights up there are a bit dimmer than those down below.
Xue sits at the bar, idly practicing her magic on a glass of water. The water inside consistantly shifts to various forms of other elements almost seemlessly. From water, to fire, to erth, to small torrents of air, back to fire, this time with a blue tint, to arcs of electricity, before finally back to water, which swirls into a miniature whirlpool in the glass....
Zelgadis steps in quietly, as he tends to do everything he does. His hood blockades most of his face, which is normal for him. As his footsteps clatter lightly against the floor of the Usual, he brushes his hood back and glances around, thus making it a tad easier for him to take in the occupancy.
Xue continues her practice. With a glance at one of the bottles on the bar, she sees who it is in the reflection, able to identify them despite the distortion the bottle causes. Without looking back, she says "Hey Zel". The water in the glass shifts to molton rock, churning around and causing gouts of steam to come out of the glass. Her careful manipulations are the only thing keeping it from melting through and onto the bartop.
Zelgadis notices Xue as she makes mention of his name. He steps a bit closer to her and while offering a shy smile of sorts, bows his head in greeting. "Xue. It's good I found you here. I have something for you." He reaches back into his tunic and pulls forth a manilla folder, as plain as any other. The only thing to distinguish this folder from the next is that it happens to contain documents which isn't so strange. He proffers these forward to her. "These are the best I could on my own, sorry if they aren't complete just yet."
Xue headtilts, and looks back at her glass a moment. The molten substance within shifts into a solid mass of ice. Looking back up, she takes the offered envelope, and peers within "Hm?".
There a series of documents with fairly detailed information of the placing of a web of astral beacons and a reasonable good mapping of most of the major 'public' areas of Twisted. Public referring simply to those areas that don't morph much and one can enter without getting too lost. The data from the beacons is fairly detailed, down to landscaping and other topological references. Zel rolls one of his shoulders out as Xue examines the documents, awaiting comment it would seem.
Xue's expression goes to one of curiosity, to one of excitement "Oooohhhh! These will prove useful, indeed. Still workin on signing people up, but once the hard part of 'getting off the ground' is done, these will prove extremely useful in establishing the first supply lines". She gives an honest smile "Thanks a lot!"
Zelgadis flushes ever so slightly. He's never done well with making others happy so it tends to shock him slightly. He bows his head again in a somewhat formal posture and manages to speak. "Y...you're welcome, Xue. I try to....keep my promises as best I can."
Xue nods, either not noticing his flush, or ignoring it. She does give a serious expression "Just a word of warning. I've noticed a lot of large bursts of magickal power, one in particular lately that was quite extensive, albeit short. Something is going on, but i can't pin what, and it's making me uneasy. Whatever it is, i don't think it's beneficial. Make sure to watch your back."
Zelgadis nods in response. "I'm aware of it myself. I have no knowledge of what's occurring, however. I'll try to be careful. You...watch yourself as well." He offers a slight sigh, perhaps frustrated at his own weakness in the grand scheme of such a power ridden place. He shakes his head clear and sits.
Xue smirks "That's why i stay here most of the time. It's the closest thing to a 'neutral ground' in this goddess-forsaken dimension, and few seem willing to break that". She looks back to the glass "It lets me practice in peace and quiet for a change"\. The ice melts and reforms into a small ice-sculpture of hself. Then it melts again, reforming into one of a woman Zel has never seen before, clad as an adventurer would, with a katana at her side. The shape once again melts and reforms into a different shape, this time of fire, but with clear features of molten rock, resembling Rock Howard, then again to resemble Zel himself. She continues this, the form switching person and element seemingly at random, some Zel might recognize (Lina, Xellos, Sun, Oblivion, Felicity, Skeeve), others he wouldnt (names omitted, since he wouldnt know them).
Zelgadis certainly does recognize some of the faces and looks a tad surprised. After Xue's display, he nods and claps lightly. "Very impressive."
Xue seems slightly distant in her mind as she does all this "If i can get to a point where i can do this with something larger than a simple glass of water, then hopefully i might be able to shape the elemental fabrics of this dimension enough to make traversing it less dangerous". The form returns to it's watery origin, and floats out of the glass, floating in the air above her hand, and looking like the stuff in a lavalamp, without the lamp "If you like, i can teach you more advanced forms of elemental magick. I know firsthand that you have the skill". She gives him a slight smile, with an eyebrow raised.
Zelgadis waves it off, flushing again. "You give me much too much credit, although I wouldn't deny training from a make of your caliber. Still, let me just warn you...since my time here, I've seen a few who've tried to 'play god' to this dimension. It may have good results, but realize the danger you're placing yourself in to do so. Just....please, be careful."
Xue nods "I agree. The difference is that while they saught and still seek to control it all to exactly how they want it, i only seek to manipulate it enough to assist, and nothing more. A temporary dam allowing others to more through, before allowing it all to return to the area cleared."
Zelgadis sighs again, rubbing the back of his head in what might be a futile attempt to ease the burden of 'living' in a place such as this. "If only we could understand the source of formation of this place...maybe we could find a way back out. There are some here who seem capable of coming and going as they please. They must know something we don't."
Xue says, "My theory on that, from observation, is that this is a 'crack' of sorts, where several dimensions meet, but none fully encompass. The road is merely a conjuration of what those who exist here can collectively comprehend it to be. The council, too, may have a hand in this, although i know little of them and their doings. Cale is the only one i know of that can freely 'come and go' through dimensions, although I'm sure there are others". She sits back, pondering "If I'm right, then there's little we can do, short of removing the dimensions themselves, to ease things and diminish the dimensional 'pressure', as it were. Doing so, however, would cost more lives than leaving things as they are". She sits up, and looks him in the eyes "Now... let us start your training". She has a feral gleam in her eyes at this. Once a teacher, always a teacher, it seems. Particularly one who always gave her students plenty of homework....
