The Usual Restaurant You walk into a very large restaurant with high ceilings that leave the rafters exposed. Fluroescent lamps hang from the ceiling, adding light to the place and tables. Windows adorn the sides of the place, looking out onto the chaos that is Twisted. On some of the walls are paintings, photographs, and some holograms of different B-movies, and a number of people who tend to visit the UR as they're singing karaoke. The hardwood bar rests at the back of the place, it's surface polished and shiny and all together spotless (most of the time). Behind the bar are various beverages that are servered and a giant mirror. There seems to be an inordant amount of different drinks. A large stage rests in one of the corners of the restaurant, with an amazing sound system and a few microphones strung about it. Multiple round wood tables are in the room, and a swing door leads into the kitchen. Another door leads to the dance club, and another to the gym. And of course, there's and exit outside. A large fireplace rests in one of the walls, with a beautiful stone chimney that flows up and out. A long spiral staircase rests near the entrance to the kitchen, leading to a second floor balcony that overlooks the UR itself. The lights up there are a bit dimmer than those down below.

Zelgadis is where he used to be most of the time, seated at a table in the corner, sipping from a sake bottle. Seems like ethanol has a slower effect on em. He peers around from time to time, his face mostly hidden by his hood. The usual in the Usual, after all.

Devi appears at the bar, motioning for a skutter to bring her a drink. She turns around, resting her elbows on the bar. "Oh Hey." She trots over, plopping herself across from Zel, legs crossing smoothly. "Hi Zel, how's it hangin'?"

Zelgadis blinks once or twice...and his visible face manages to flush slightly. He offers a nod. "Hello Devi. How are you?" Devi says, "Eh, I'm ok." The Skutter comes from the Kitchen, serving tray on it's.. Mouth? Bob slides it onto the table, and Devi snags her coffee colored drink from it. "Thanks, Bob." She sips slightly and sighs contentedly. "So, I mean to ask you yesterday, where -are- you from?"

Zelgadis tilts his head slightly for just a moment before nodding in understanding, "I see. The city of Sailune. I am not quite sure if my dimension has a specific name to it. It's one of several that are attached together, in ways. ... How about you?"

Devi says, "Earth. I don't know how many people have heard of it, but at least I've got home with me, as it were. 2 other's from my universe managed to find their way here. Suprising enough, I know 'em."

Zelgadis hrms. "How coincidental. Earth, is it? I've heard that name before. ... Who else came with you here?"

Devi asks, "One Tenna, and one Crazy guy by the name of Johnny. Although, Johnny was here before Tenna and I. What about you? Have you managed across anyone else from your world?"

Zelgadis shakes his head. His look is almost a tad melancholy, at least from what part of his face is visible. "No. I haven't seen anyone from my old....party, as it were. At first I didn't really care, I often traveled without them...but..."

Devi says, "Tends to get a bit lonley on your own, huh?" She sips again, her eyes wandering out the window to the street, momentarily lost in thought. "That's one of the reasons I'm trying so hard to not instantly wonder how someone would do in a fight. Seems to be unhealthy."

Zelgadis quirks an eyebrow. "You're interested in combat, then? I can't say it's terribly surprising...although, it sounds as lonely my own path."

Devi smiles, although it's bitter and husk. "You could say that, I've trained enough. I've fought enough, and a bit back it was all I could think about. Like a dying man in the desert wishes for water." She sips her drink again, seeming to snap back to normal. "As for lonley, yeah, I am, but I make due."

Zelgadis takes a short drink from his sake bottle and nods. "Life seems like an array of compromises. Was this something you thought about...BEFORE your...transformation, as it were?"

Devi snorts. "No, I was a fool. I never thought I could have been more alone then I already was." She blinks. "How'd we get so far onto me.. So, why couldn't Great Granddad change you back to normal?"

Zelgadis offers a slight grin. He's been known to switch around a conversation here and there. He shrugs in reply. "First off, he wanted me this way...I became his servant. Secondly....well, he was killed long before I could try to get him to return me to normal."

Devi says, "And there was no one else that had that.. Flavor of magic or power?" She finishes her drink, finger waving Bob to bring her another White Russian.

Zelgadis asks, "Well, I'm not entirely sure. I've been looking for a cure ever since. ... What about you? Would you wish to return to normal, if you could?"

Devi ponders. "I don't know." There are so many pro's and con's to her power, and she can at least beat something's face in if she needs to pour out some of the emotion bottle. "There must be advantages that you'd be without that would cripple you in a fight though, right?"

Zelgadis folds his arms and leans back a bit in his seat. He ponders this for a moment...and nods. "Yes. I would be much weaker were I human again. I couldn't have helped any of my friends the way I was before. ... That doesn't change the fact that everytime I see my face, I can't stand what I see."

Devi nods. "How long have you been like that anyway, if you don't mind my asking?" She sips again, her elbows resting on the tabletop. "And do you ever look back and at least be thankful you are the way you are, if for nothing more then to have saved someone from something?"

Zelgadis quirks an eyebrow, smirking ever so slightly after just a moment. "I have managed to flip flop a bit on the topic. Have YOU ever felt that life didn't seem to go your way, before OR after your...transformation?"

Devi says, "Life hasn't gone my way on either side of that coin." She mimicks Zel's smirk. "Well, on everything except my original point of intrest, I got that."

Zelgadis mms. "Original point of interest? What would that be? A lover?"

Devi grins, her eyes ligthing up a bit at the memories. She beings to finger a yellow crystal hung around her neck. "No, for someone to not be able to bother me again." Devi looks a little manic.

Zelgadis peers at the crystal, narrowing his eyes slightly. "That...looks rather familiar. I see an astral presence for it...but not one I'm aware of. It's...faint. ... ... The only time I've seen such things were in the hands of the Hellmaster. He used them to trap...and sometimes destroy the souls of his enemies.:"

Devi says, "Caliga gave me the means to trap my enemy, Oblivion gave me the power, and she gave me the rage." She rolls the crystal in her fingers, peering into it for a moment. "I got the objet of my desire, and I take comfort in the fact that at least I got one thing, though it may not make me happy for the rest of my life."

Devi starts giggling, building up to an insane cackle, subsiding after a few minutes. "You know? I can't recall. After I was fully transformed, my mind started slipping, and I've lost tons of things. What I was like when I was human, my childhood, what happened after I first showed up here." She starts laughing again, bending over to cover her mouth, and try to smother her hysteria. Good job Dev, find someone you can talk to, but scare the hell out of him by losing it. Taking a deep breath, she sits upright again, body tensed to smother more, should it come.

Zelgadis doesn't look particularly scared, he just shakes his head. No longer smirking but with a sad half smile. "You don't seem like a monster...but I suppose if one fights the beast long enough, one becomes the beast instead. I feel sorry for you. I don't think you deserve this fate...if there is such a thing."

Devi takes a deep breath, her eyes momentarily flashing as Zel puts his pity on the table. "Perhaps, perhaps not. Regardless, there's no changing it. I don't think that there will be any offers for Salvation. Much as Teacher would like for it to happen." It seems as though Devi isn't completely talking to Zel, but partly to herself.

Zelgadis nods slowly, his head leaning a bit forward, leaving it mostly covered by his hood. He speaks after a short pause, "Then...why continue at all? I am every bit the monster you are...but I seek a cure. I seek to return to my humanity. A small, insignificant purpose...but one, none the same. If you feel you can't find...salvation as you call it, what drives you to continue?"

Devi says, "What would you have me do? Kill myself?" She snorts. "As if I have the power to off myself. As if I'm capable of asking someone -with- the power to finish my excistance. Not continuing to exsist would result in me going to the Asteral Plane and waiting until I'm tired of not being down here."

Zelgadis nods again. He's quiet for a moment before continuing. "So...you're saying that if you had the power to kill yourself, you would? Or am I misunderstanding you?"

Devi says, "I don't have the power. I'm not old enough to be tired enough to really truly wish for my death."

Zelgadis tilts his head slightly, actually looking a bit surprised for a moment. After a time he nods yet again and doesn't seem to elaborate on the topic any further. If anything, he looks content with the answer.

Devi says, "SO!" She shoves her hands in her pockets. "Guess I'll see ya around then." She walks towards the door. "Bye."

Zelgadis watches her for a moment and as she starts to walk away, he pipes up just a bit, "There's nothing wrong...with not wanting to take the universe on by yourself, powerful or not. I know this now...I hope....you aren't lonely anymore....sometime soon." At that, he clams up again, although he keeps an eye on her.

Devi sighs, her shoulders dropping tiredly. "So do I." She walks out, doubting that that's ever going to happen.
