|You remind me of the babe.|
Stepping from the mostly isolated fountain, you'll see a beautiful lake nestled in here. The grass is cool and in good condition, and the water is clean and clear, the shimmer of the daylight pretty upon it's rippling surface. A large weeping willow is the only large plant life here however, it's graceful branches rustling in the light breeze.
Zelgadis is sitting by the lake currently. His hood is down and he even has a small smile on his face. He's sitting with one knee cantered up beside him, his arm resting over it. He occasionally picks up a small nearby stone and hurls it across the lake, skipping a few times before setting under the water. ... Maybe he's having a dispute with his apparent family? ... Ok, so that wasn't funny...
Devi walks in, her trenchcoat cast aside today, though her hands still manage to bury themselves into her pockets. She smiles upon seeing Zel and sits down beside him, leaning back on her hands and laying out her legs, crossing her ankles. "Hey." Such a simple greeting.
Zelgadis's smile brighten a bit more as he glances over. He finds himself staring for a second as Devi stretches out but he quickly shakes his cheeks 'clear' of the sudden blush and turns sheepishly to Devi's face. He got caught being male, tsk tsk. "It's good to see you, Devi. I hope you've been well? After all the commotion, I was worried that..." He kind of trails off, looking a bit more concerned.
Devi laughs softly as she catches him. "Yeah. While I missed the main commotion that went on on Main Street.... Either way, I'm fine. My list of stuff to do has gotten dramtically shorter, and that in of itself makes me feel much better. What about you? You weren't fighting on Main Street were you?" She ends up mirroring his concern, having just as much for his well being.
Zelgadis shakes his head slowly. "No. I find discretion to be the better part of valor. Besides...the....OTHER, side of me was going to be much harder to control with all the fighting and killing going on. I figured I should just lay low." He snickers for a second, staring up at the sky. "I'm sure I just sound like a coward. ... Sometimes I wonder..."
Devi nods. She's clearly relived. "No, I'm happy you stayed out of it. I've heard how big it was and now that I've got you back.. I don't know what I would have done if you had gotten hurt." She trails off, but picks up a second later. "Speaking of, we havn't really had a chance to talk about.. him. I.. well, I don't understand what happened. Or what he is."
Zelgadis flushes in pleasure as Devi seems concerned. Of course, being Zel, he can't do much other than stare at his feet. He blinks once and peers back up when Devi mentions 'him'. He tilts his head slightly. "Him? Who do....you mean, my 'other side'?..." He trails off there. Obviously it's not a topic he WANTS to delve into...although it's apparent he has too.
Devi says, "Whatever it was that took control of you. I'd like to know more about him and how to react if he ever resurfaces." She turns, sitting crosslegged towards him, her hands folded in her lap. She lowers her head to fiddle with some insignificant piece of fluff. "I felt kinda useless last time, and I don't like feeling that way. I want to be able to help, just in case."
Zelgadis reachs out tentatively and tries to place a hand on Devi's shoulder gently. He sighs softly although he still has a smile on his face. "The...entity you're seeing...is a piece of THE major evil entity from my home dimension. He was defeated a long time ago and split into multiple pieces. I don't know if it was on purpose or an accident, but my great grandfather linked my spirit to one of those pieces when he turned me into this...thing. It was lying dormant until Caliga began to tamper with it. It...'woke up' I suppose you could say and partially corrupted my astral body. I've been able to hold it back...but it's getting hard to do. The last time it was all I could do to keep him in check...I'm afraid that the next time, I'm not sure..." He trails off here.
Devi puts her hand on his wrist softly. "What's the best way to deal with him, then, when he comes back? There's gotta be some kind of weakness.. well, aside from his ego." Devi's been through some crazy shit since coming to Twisted. She's died and been brought back to technical life, she's trained, gotten her ass beat, and gone to hell. She's so far from her source material that it's not funny and she's learned that if there is something that is opposing, she needs to learn what she can to fight it. This is something that she's not familar with and it makes her even more nervous because of the realationship she has with Zel. It worries her, and that alone shows.
Zelgadis pats her hand with his other one and tries to smile in a comforting manner. He's not that great at it, mind you, but he's trying... "I'm not really sure. I was thinking of.....possibly trying to....cease resisting. If I could allow the merge to take place and then try to break the connection suddenly...perhaps that very ego will leave him complacent enough for me to take it by surprise and sever the link. ... It's a dangerous prospect however and I have no idea if it'll work or not..."
Devi says, "What if you can't break the connection?" Her voice softens and her head lowers again, her mind already starting to work against the thought of having to put something else on her list, and it being Zel for the second time. Her heart races as she considers having to fight someone that she loves, and it starts hardening against the resolve. She gives a weak chuckle. "Maybe we could get a priest to exercise ya. May the power of the Lord save ya." Her voice is weak in it's humor, as she knows that wouldn't help.
Zelgadis reaches up to try and gently nudge her face back level with his (via a nudge under the chin). "Devi, listen to me. I...it's so hard for me to say, with so little practice...but I truly love you. You've treated me with a kindness that I haven't seen or even TRIED to see in sometime. I promise...that I'll figure SOMETHING out...I won't just give up, if you just won't give up on me...."
Devi raises her head, green eyes still filled with worry and sadness at the whole situation of hostile takeover. She blushes slightly as he speaks. He's not used to saying it, and she's definatly not used to hearing it. It's still kinda hard to belive that anyone, let alone someone as wonderful as Zel would love her. "I.. I love you too and I'm not giving up. I don't give up. And even if I did, I wouldn't give up on you. I just hate not having a contengency plan for it. Hell, I'm not even sure how we managed to beat him back last time, and that bothers me too." Devi says, "I feel like I'm swinging around in the dark."
Zelgadis mms. He looks thoughtful for a moment. "I remember that... It seemed like a blur when I wasn't in control. ... Although, I seemed to be in and out of 'control' the whole time. It was... When he was intent on fighting you all, I found that I COULD hold him back...it got harder and harder, but when I saw you there... My only thought was to make sure you wouldn't get hurt and that seemed to hold him back. I think perhaps...that he can't hurt you since I care for you so much."
Devi smiles and feels the heat of blush rise to her cheeks. While it's not a pleasnt subject to be re-living, it's still nice to know that she had that kinda effect. "I'll try my best to avoid testing that theory. But maybe in the thick of battle he's less focused on retaining control on you, and more focused on beating his opponent down."
Devi nods, not knowing what to say, her ideas already having been used, and her mind to tired and stressed from recent events to create new paths to explore. She goes back to that insicnificant bit of fluff, picking it off again and again.
Zelgadis slowly tries to snake an arm over her shoulder and pull her in closer. He's not great at this sort of thing at all and his cheeks are a rather bright red as he does so... "Devi, please don't worry. I...I feel that as long as I have you with me, I can handle this. You're a comfort to me, in a way I don't think I've felt before. I can't explain it very well...but I think, as long as you're by my side, I can handle this. So...don't worry...ok?" He trails off there. He doesn't have a lot of confidence in his social skills, but...
Devi sighs and settles against him, the weight of his arm a comfort she's not used to, but thinks she could get used to. She smiles, putting a hand on his chest. "I'll try to not worry, but I can't promise anything. What I can promise however, is to fully enjoy every moment I get to steal from you, and I'll worry when your not around. How's that work for ya?" Her tone is more relaxed and quite a bit lighter from the former bits of the conversation, which is a good sign.
Zelgadis laughs softly, although his heart makes an obviously flutter when she touches his chest. He doesn't spend much time in this kind of proximity with the ladies, of course. He offers a content sigh and nods slowly. "That 'works for me', Devi." He grins slightly and peers back over the lake. He seems...content.
