Normal Service To Be Resumed

Summary: Immediately after their departure from the battle with Guarlesia, Xue Qian and Wolfe Brodie form a makeshift base of operations in the Usual Restaurant; one of the few places guaranteed to at least partially stand up to an assault of godlike proportions. Aided and abetted by one of the more dangerous beings not already involved in the fight outside, the half-elf works quickly to secure safety for as many of Twisted's residents as meta-humanly possible. (Warning: scene may end on a more suddenly upbeat note than intended.)

The Usual Restaurant

You walk into a very large restaurant with high ceilings that leave the rafters exposed. Fluorescent lamps hang from the ceiling, adding light to the place and tables. Windows adorn the sides of the place, looking out onto the chaos that is Twisted. On some of the walls are paintings, photographs, and some holograms of different B-movies, and a number of people who tend to visit the UR as they're singing karaoke. The hardwood bar rests at the back of the place, it's surface polished and shiny and all together spotless (most of the time). Behind the bar are various beverages that are served and a giant mirror. There seems to be an inordinate amount of different drinks. A large stage rests in one of the corners of the restaurant, with an amazing sound system and a few microphones strung about it. Multiple round wood tables are in the room, and a swing door leads into the kitchen. Another door leads to the dance club, and another to the gym. And of course, there's an exit to the outside. A large fireplace rests in one of the walls, with a beautiful stone chimney that flows up and out. A long spiral staircase rests near the entrance to the kitchen, leading to a second floor balcony that overlooks the UR itself. The lights up there are a bit dimmer than those down below.

Xue appears from the mists alongside Wolfe, as Nancy sends them there at her request. She stops a moment to take in the room, looking for something other than who is present, and nods as she starts franticly moving tables and chairs out of the middle of the room "Hope this is gonna work.....". She takes no account of whos actually present otherwise.

Stumbling for a moment once the mist clears, Wolfe look about as if in something of a daze before shaking himself awake. "Uh.. that carnage.. he liked it." He sighs and moves to help Xue rearrange the furniture, pulling everything he can off to the sides. "I hope you have a good idea, because if not, we're royally F'ed."

*shing* The ostentatiously dramatic sound of a blade drawn heralds the arrival of a figure from the back rooms of the restaurant, the unmistakable form of Samantha in full Xue-wrought armour striding out with a purposeful spring in her step. She moves swiftly past the few huddled denizens taking shelter here, and emerges a few paces from the half-elf and Wolfe, free hand clapped to her hip as she tilts her pulsing ninjato back and forth with barely restrained impatience. "Hope what's gonna work?" She asks, seamlessly joining the conversation with a nod to the young man. "Y'know, we just keep runnin' into each other..." He is thrown a jaunty half-grin, before the catgirl's gaze slides expectantly back to Xue. She doesn't /look/ like somebody who's far too late to save the world.

Xue takes a crystal of some kind out of her bag, and t osses it on the floor, where it shatters promptly, releasing some kinda of smokey cloud. When it clears, theres a full magic circle on the floor! She turns to Sam, and puts a hand on her shoulder, with a serious, even desperate look to her "This may be our only chance. I'm trusting YOU to keep me protected if it does. You'll understand once i finish....". She stands in the circle, and closes her eyes. Purple energy begins to drift off her, and she floats into the air, eyes blasing with the same violet hue. Ice begins to form on the ceiling and floor, slowly building towards her from both directions. She uses the limit of her power that will avoid hurting herself, but can be maintained, and begins to cast the massive spell, hoping she won't destroy herself and the building in the process....

Wolfe reaches into his pocket, pulling out his stack of cards. He fans the infront of himself and takes a seat on a stool shoved up against the rest of the furniture. "I wish it were under better circumstances, but alas, we are in a bit of a bad spot." His accent is slipping through, showing the amount of strain the teen is under. Despite the way he speaks, a realitively slight New York accent comes through. "I'll be right here if needed."

"Uh..." The hand is disquieting, and her friend's face is all the moreso. Samantha hesitates, grip tightening upon the hilt of her weapon, before she gives a brisk nod of her head. Summoned by a thought, the blossoming well of magical power within her sends out a spark of mana, a translucent ripple that travels from the abdomen up the length of her torso. Her free hand lifts from her hip, fingertips curling against the air. It's just as well she's been practicing. "I've got your back, Xue," the catgirl murmurs, tone distancing audibly as she focuses on her studies of the last few weeks. Protection. It's a far cry from the brute force she has taught herself to utilise, but the theories all begin to make sense - and she is not lacking in stamina today. Working on the fly, she begins to twist a few fronds of wispy magic between her fingers, gradually building a well of energy in her palm. "Wolfe, was it?" She asks quietly, glancing to the youth as she works, "You wanna fill me in on exactly how bad the situation here is? I sorta just got here. Haven't been around much lately... humour me..." She cracks another grin, though this one is weak and strained through concentration. She can at least try to be chipper.

The ice above and below the archmage grows and grows, until it finally meets in the middle, creating a pillar of solid translucent blue ice from floor to ceiling, with Xue inside it, eyes closed. The ice makes the violet light seem brighter due to reflection, filling the room. Outside, slowly, pieces of the road near the UR begin to drift back together, as she attempts to stabilize the area. Her face, seen through the ice, is clearly tense.....

Silver mist gathers in a pool in the center of the floor, tendrils of it reaching up, almost like hands graspong at the ceiling. Slowly the mist builds, faces and bodies swirling about in it. Slowly it drifts back down to a pool on the floor, leaving the Inquisitor standing in its midst. In one hand he clutches a writhing snake like demon, hissing its displeasure almost too vehemently. In the other hand is a large leather bound tome wrapped in chains. "I believe you could use some assistance. I've been watching, I don't think I can stand as a spectator any longer." He tosses both the book and the demon in the air. Mist surging outwards, both are soon wrapped in the silver tendrils, the book held before him as if resting on a podium. The demon on the other hand is swarmed by the ghosts in the mist, their silver hand tearing open lacerations in the demon's hide, blood dripping to the floor.

Feeling unable to do anything of any use, Wolfe merely lays out the cards before him face down. Even the Inquisitor recieves only a cursory glance from the teen. Once the cards are spread, he crosses his arms on the table, burying his face in them.

Samantha continues to channel magicka, quietly sheathing her blade as the ice builds and gathers, using her emptied hand to gently shape the cool, misty glow enveloping the other. She watches the conjuration before her through slightly lidded eyes, surprise registering only in the twitch of her shoulders as that forbidding figure appears. Something about the aura feels familiar... But she shrugs it off, forcing herself to be very and fully aware that this could be why Xue needs her. A soft hiss escapes her lips as she spins the globe in her hand, twisting her wrist to send it in a loose spiral toward the half-elf. Watery tendrils taper off into a cloudlike residue, orbiting Xue slowly under the catgirl's inexpert control. She continues to pour forth from her internal well of mana, feeding the makeshift shield, ready to build drastically upon it should things grow dire...

Xue appears to be unconscious within her self-made tomb of ice, channeling the spell. Her eyes slowly open, and she peers out, looking first at the Inquisitors direction, then at Samantha.....

The_Inquisitor's eyes flick over to Samantha. "I'm here to assist her child, you do not want to interfere." With a wave of his hand the chains slowly slither off the book, dropping to the ground. Another wave of his hand and the old tome opens the pages flipping until finally the spell the Inquisitor seeks lays open in front of him. "Not the purpose I was given this book for, but sadly, there is nothing to be done for it." He gives a short nod of his head and the mist spirits teighten on the demon, it's thrashing stilled in a sudden crunching of bones. The silver mist drinks up the blood pouring from the corpse, spirits flying off to draw sigils in the blood all over the floor of the UR, pity the person that needs to clean that up. Once the circle is complete, the magical energies suddenly spike, focused in towards Xue's own circle.

The catgirl meets the fearful being's gaze with a stiff look of her own, her emotions betraying her as the globe around Xue flashes brightly for a moment. To her credit, she maintains eye contact until his attention shifts, but she also releases a held breath... and flicks an ear. "Yeah," she mutters, "Pretty sure I don't." And yet she keeps her magic in place. Turning away from the Inquisitor, she darts a surprised glance past her friend to the wide window of the Usual. Lingering steps pull her close to the glass, and she keeps her deeper senses hone on the room while staring more conventionally out into the stricken skies of Twisted. Just in time for the surge of a spirit howl from the rooftop of the Hibiki household. But it's the devastation that grips her, and that field about Xue pulses once more, before spreading throughout the room, motes of defensive power pattering like raindrops against the walls and ceiling. "Whatever you're doin', do it fast. I..." She frowns deeply, only more determined by the sight, no matter how much or little she might do here. "I don't think this world has much time."

Outside, the terrain is slowly pulling itself together within a small radius of the building. The road, crisscrossed with purple lines of energy, is held together like a jigsaw puzzle. Those close are brought to its shakey surface safely. This whole event is occuring within roughly a 1-block radius of the UR, with the building as the focal point. The effect stabilizes moreso once the Inquisitor adds his power to it.

Xue s eyes close again, as she focuses entirely on maintaining this effect. It seems to be working effectively thanks to the assistance, but with things still unstable otherwise, it wont hold on its own.

The_Inquisitor begins a slow incantation in a language long forgotten by pretty much everyone from his home dimension. His mouth actually twisting in a grimace as he runs his finger along the page in the grimoire. The souls in the silver mist slowly begin to disintigrate, starting with the ones closest to the half-elf archmage. The dissipation is slow, the human like shapes loosing first form and then pieces just drifting away like motes of dust.

Seeing the people out there, barely pulled to safety, serves as jarring reminder of the many who are unsafe. Not only those that Samantha knows - and has already tried to protect once - but the others, the dimly forgotten. It's almost enough to send her scattering to the outside, to try and lend what help she can out there; but Xue's resolve keeps her in place, and with a roll of her shoulders she glances around the devastation, keeping an eye on progress... and still ready to jump in with aid for the half-elf.

And they all lived happily ever after.. THE END!
