The Usual Restaurant

You walk into a very large restaurant with high ceilings that leave the rafters exposed. Fluorescent lamps hang from the ceiling, adding light to the place and tables. Windows adorn the sides of the place, looking out onto the chaos that is Twisted. On some of the walls are paintings, photographs, and some holograms of different B-movies, and a number of people who tend to visit the UR as they're singing karaoke. The hardwood bar rests at the back of the place, it's surface polished and shiny and all together spotless (most of the time). Behind the bar are various beverages that are served and a giant mirror. There seems to be an inordinate amount of different drinks. A large stage rests in one of the corners of the restaurant, with an amazing sound system and a few microphones strung about it. Multiple round wood tables are in the room, and a swing door leads into the kitchen. Another door leads to the dance club, and another to the gym. And of course, there's an exit to the outside. A large fireplace rests in one of the walls, with a beautiful stone chimney that flows up and out. A long spiral staircase rests near the entrance to the kitchen, leading to a second floor balcony that overlooks the UR itself. The lights up there are a bit dimmer than those down below.

Zelgadis is sitting at his usual(ha) spot at the bar. He's sipping slowly at a sake her just recently poured, although he doesn't have a particularly glum look to his face. Maybe he just drinks these days out of habit? He's currently peering out a nearby window, watching the few people here and there moving swiftly by, not wanting to stay on Twisted's streets longer than need be. Etc, etc...

The bell on the door dings as it's swung open and Devi steps into the Restaurant. She shoves her hands into her pockets and looks around, crooking a finger at one of ths skutters in greeting before noticing Zel. She turns on her heel and trots over, sliding into a seat across from him. "Howdy."

Zelgadis glances over and lets a small smile play over his lips as he notices who it is. He nudges the sake bottle in her direction before offering a short bow of his upper body. "M'lady." He grins slightly at that before continuing. "It's been a while now. How have you been? I've been starting to miss you."

Devi smiles warmly in return as one leg is swung over to cross the other, as she pours a small cup. "I'm always around. Just hollar out my name and I'll pop in. I've just been kinda grouchy and I figured if I really didn't wanna fight, I'd stay indoors until the urge to pound someone's face in went away." She smirks slightly and sips her drink. "Have I missed anything?"

Zelgadis quirks an eyebrow. "Grouchy?..." He mms at that one, draining the rest of his own drink before continuing on. "Nothing of any great importance. It seems as though things have slowed down, although..." He thoughtfully rubs at his blackened hand. "I haven't been able to...deal with this little incursion..."

Devi's eyes glance down at it, the corners of her mouth flicking down into a frown quickly before she forces them back into a more netural position. She's still worried about it, as if that's any suprize. "Well, I'm glad there hasn't been any great commotion. Speaking of chaos, I'm kinda surprised that Caliga hasn't been screaming at the top of his lungs boasting..." Now that she mentions it...

Zelgadis looks a bit confused, attention drawn from his hand. "Boasting? Although he does seem the type to boast in general...what exactly has he been boasting of?" Devi says, "Well, he is on the Hell Council now, and he did slip a big fat one past Diablo." Her finger traces something on the table top idly. After a moment, she shrugs. "Maybe Diablo is keeping him in line or has him doing something that comsumes his time. Thank god." She grins at Zel.

Zelgadis snorts, shaking his head. "I suppose so. Caliga's exploits are no concern of mine. My life would have been better if I hadn't involved myself with the likes of him." He sighs slightly, giving Devi a smile once more. "I appreciate the effort to rid me of my curse, however. You're one of the few who've thought to care."

Devi nods, her smile becoming a bit hollow. She still feels bad about the whiplash of that care. "Well..." She swirls what's left in the sake cup, tossing it down her throat and setting it back down. "Any new progress in.. "She glances meaninfully down to his blackend arm. "THAT front?"

Zelgadis covers it up self-consciously. Seems almost a reflexive action. He shakes his head once again. "No. I have had no luck. I don't...notice it getting any WORSE, but my efforts have come to naught. To remove it seems to require even more power than to remove my curse altogether. ... I'm at a loss."

Devi nods, staring into her empty cup. "Ah, well, at least it's not getting worse then. That's something."

Zelgadis reaches over gingerly with his 'good' hand, seeking to rest it lightly on Devi's if she doesn't stop him. "Having you around makes it tolerable, Devi."

Devi wraps her fingers around his and grips softly. "I R GOOD THEN." She grins lightly and looks out the window. "I feel like an old woman, man, sitting around. I'm going to have to start knitting soon to pass the time. Where -is- everyone?"

Zelgadis says, "I'm afraid my former travelling companions fall into the latter mold, however."

Devi says, "So does that mean you were the cautious one then?"

Zelgadis chuckles slightly, nodding. "In comparison, yes. Although...not when Xelloss was involved. I could become reckless in those instances."

Devi arches an eyebrow. She's kinda interested to see what he's like when he's not reserved. While she's seen his unreserved side in matters of the heart, it varies greatly from most everything else. And her biggest flaw is curiosity. "I bet."

Zelgadis blinks once or twice, noticing the look. He grins slightly, peering a little closer. "Let me guess, you're interested to see what I'd look like when I was enraged, hm?" He's actually gotten THAT one a few times now...

Devi grins broudly. "That obvious huh?" She turns, leaning in on her elbows. "I can't lie and say no. I find that when people are enraged the bare bones of truth about how and what they are come out. And a curious mind always wants to know."

Zelgadis folds his arms and leans back in the stool a bit. "When I was younger...I was angry most of the time. I felt so weak. After I was changed, my anger only got worse. It was only fairly recently that I'd gotten it under control at all. I'm getting old, I suppose."

Devi says, "Only recently?" She tilts her head, as it's always seemed to her that Zel had his crap together. "We need pins for that club." She nods as though it's a absolute truth. "How can we feel old at 24? Our lives arn't half over."

Zelgadis laughs softly at that one. He nods in agreement. "It's an odd thought. Perhaps we've seen more than we should have, at such a 'young' age."

Devi says, "I bet some of the older folk have some stories to tell." She props her face into a palm and looks out the window. "Are there even any old folks left here on Twisted? Maybe with all the crap only the quick and young survive.."

Zelgadis rubs his shoulder as he glances out the same window. "It would seem that...Twisted as a whole is slowly becoming nothing more than a battlefield, politically and literally, for a series of entities that I'm sure are much too old to be considered 'quick and young'. I myself wonder just how much longer this collection of dimensions can really hold together..."

Devi says, "I dunno, I think it'll hold out quite a bit longer then we both expect it too. This world seems more then hardheaded about staying around."

Zelgadis says, "Perhaps you're right. I'm such a cynic. I feel for the inhabitants, though. Caught in the same governing battles that seem to plague any world... Even in a desolate place like this. ..."

Devi smirks. "For some reason I think the battles here are a bit more... destructive over all. But it's not a large world...." She glances over to him. "You know what would be a good idea? If we went world hopping, check out some of the paralells if for nothing more then a change of scenery."

Zelgadis rubs his chin. He looks pensive. "I've not found a portal back to my own home world. ... It might reveal an answer to my current...condition, though. I wouldn't want to lose control at the expense of another world, however..."

Devi frowns slightly. "Well, I don't know. They might. I'm half wondering if a good dose of SOFT would cure you at least partly, but that magic is so far ranged from the magic that created you as you are now." She leans back against her seat, a skutter rolling along conviently with a soda on a tray for her. She sips dantily. "As far as the control issue.. Well, I don't know what I can say on that really."

Zelgadis taps the bar with a finger lightly as he ponders for a moment or two. He finally shrugs a bit. "Well, I suppose I haven't taken you out on a...date, as it were, for at least some time now. I suppose I'm game if you are." He puncuates it with another grin.

Devi snorts. "Date, shmate. I've only seen the inside of my house, the lakeside and the UR now for like a month." She laughs. "Well then, we have options. Shall we?"

Zelgadis sweatdrops. Ok, he hasn't been the most attentive boyfriend. He's kind of new to the whole concept. He nods mutely in reply. Slightly embarassed, by the look of it. o.o;

Devi sniggers under her breath. It wasn't a stab against him, she isolated herself and for good reason, but still. She gets up, motioning with her head for him to come on.
