Devil May Cry(#3063R)
From the inescapable darkness of the entrance to a fairly brightly lit room, your eyes most likely take a moment to adjust. Or not. Who the heck am I to tell you what your eyes are doing? I'm just a stupid narration. The paint scheme in here is a messy, splotchy mix of black and red. It looks as though the original paint was all black and perhaps someone decided to 'art' the place up a tad with some red highlights. It doesn't do much for the decor, to tell you the truth. A single pane of windows lie on either side of a very plain looking brown desk in the middle of the room. Yeah, nothing special about it. It's a desk. Cope. A non-descript black office chair lies just behind that desk. Nothing special about it either. There seems to be a theme here. - Off to one side is what appears to be a secretaries desk, which may or may not be manned. A single workstation with an LCD monitor and attached keyboard seems to be the only thing adorning the desk usually, although whomever is currently playing the role might very well spruce it up. - In the back of the room are a set of stairs that lead upward to another section of the building.

Looking really out of place, a set of metal doors have been added to the wall behind the desk. They don't seem to have any obvious way of opening. Strange...

Twisted. Late evening. Finally deciding to brave the outside, and finally too frustrated over what's been going on in her life, Tabitha makes her way out onto the streets, hoping to run into Dante at the Usual Restaurant. Imagine her surprise when she's told to check at the building across the street with the neon banner proclaiming 'Devil May Cry'. Considering how much of her own problems have to deal with a particular 'Devil' she's nearly scared herself half to death by the time she nervously taps on the front door.

Dante decides to let his voice BOOM outside. Seeming to echo from the walls of the decrepit building, it intones in grandeur, "ABADON ALL HOPE, YE WHO....WHO....uh...fuck." His voice seems to have all at once returned to normal and he laughs a bit. He yells over. "C'mon in, kitty cat."

Like a cat, Tabitha seems to jump about four feet in the air and somehow backwards at the same time, leaving her standing in the actual street and glaring at the door like it had personally offended her. The final statement and the laughing only sends her looking ready to admit defeat with her ears down and her tail sagging lifelessly behind her. She marches up to the door again, slightly more confident - or possibly just annoyed, and nearly slams it open hard enough to break. Habit makes her stop it before the last second and carefully close it behind her. "Dante? ...what th' heck is all this?" She really hasn't been around in a while, has she?

Dante waves her in. "C'mon and have a seat, missy. Been a while. Guess you've never seen my TRUE love. This is my DMC. Diablo was nice enough to lemme build her back up. So, what brngs you to my humble little piece of the vortex?" He seems to be balancing his chair in that odd little way he does, only on one leg.

Tabitha eyes visibly twitch at the mentioning of Diablo's name, but the question sends her back to looking nervous. "It, um... It's very nice. What is it you do here?" Yeah. That's it. Dodge that question. She glances about the mess trying to take a guess of her own. Something about the clutter makes her feel more comfortable, though. The fact that she used to sleep in an old ticket booth probably had something to do with that.

Dante blinks. He rubs his chin a bit while looking Tabi over. Huh. Ok. "Well, the DMC is specifically in the business of taking down supernatural threats in an area that doesn't have enough in the way of defenses. This place, a lot of the time." He lets it play for now. Tabi'll let him know what she really needs from him in her own due time.

The catgirl fails to hide a smirk at the description of the DMC. She's definitely stumbled into the right place. Her eyes fall onto an empty chair and she looks to see if he has any objections before she drags it over the desk and sits down in it. "Dante? You and I... I mean... I know we don't really know each other besides that tournament awhile back." She pauses for a short while, trying to figure out just where she's going with this. "I actually went out tonight looking ta see if you wanted ta spar with me..." The girl lets out a deep sigh. "Things have not been okay with me lately..."

Dante rubs the back of his head. "Ah...ya know, I dunno that I'm the greatest shrink to...." He trails off in that moment. No, Dante. It's not ok to be a little kid right now and bail on this one. He sighs softly. "I'm sorry to hear it, Tabs. Really I am. What's on your mind?" He may not be good at it, but he'd best learn quickly.

Tabitha lets out a slight laugh at Dante's reaction. "Oh, man. I'm soooo past a shrink right now." The girl pulls her feet up onto the chair with her and hugs her knees. "There's kinda... four or five of me now." She points at her head. "In here. An' for a while they just kinda came out whenever they wanted." Tabitha sighs again. "They can also change how I look, which gets really embarrassin'." Her face is slowly turning crimson and she's refusing to make eye contact with Dante now. "It sorta turns out that they're all me." She lets that hang in the air before she elaborates, "They're all /versions/ of me." Now the girl is trying not to blink as her eyes start to water. "...an' I think Diablo put most of them in there."

Dante doesn't say much of anything for just a bit. He leans forward and manages to give Gendou a run for his money, resting his chin on steepled fingers. He speaks slowly, diliberately, "Diablo put them there? ... Tabs, listen to me. This is a pretty big accusation. SD's kinda the boss. Do you have proof of what you're talkin' about?..."

The nekojin strains harder not to blink as she shakes her head. "Xue helped me do this thing where I went into my mind and met some of them. I saw all these images o' what had happened to th' other me's, including watching myself kill my grandmother." She finally lets herself look at Dante and the tears start running free. "And one of those images was Diablo inserting a finger into my skull while Gegoshi stood behind him smiling!" She wipes her eyes on a sleeve. "Is that proof enough??"

Dante sadly has no clue of this little fact. He doesn't ALWAYS have all the information. He sighs softly and sets his chair down slowly. He reaches across the table to rest a hand on Tabi's shoulder assuming she doesn't prevent him from doing so. "It's ok, Tabs. I'm sorry. I shouldn' have pushed ya."

Tabitha doesn't try to pull away. Instead she wipes her eyes again, "No. No. It's okay. I'm sorry. I don't really have anyone ta go to about this that I haven't already. You're like one of th' only friends I really have an' I've barely spoken to you." She manages to get the tears under control, but continues to wipe her now red eyes. "...an' your right. I need proof. I don't really understand a lot of this. What I do know is that apparently me killing Samantha really happened, an' all that stuff about her being my grandmother is something he made up and put in my head. I don't know how much of what I know is real anymore!" The girl reaches for her belt and pulls out the match for Johnny's black bladed Dread Dagger, placing it on the desk before Dante. "What I do know is that /that/s supposed ta be my Dad's. An' it's supposed ta open tha portal to Hell in the Wastelands. If Hell is really the missin' chunk of Twisted City, and there where really people trapped there... maybe it wasn't all a lie." She sniffles, "But I'm too scared ta go by myself..."

Dante frowns at this new deluge of information. Well, great. NOW his head hurts. Boy, friends are a pain in the ass. Chicks are a pain in the ass. Put em together... Alright. He examines the dagger for a moment, although seems quite unwilling to touch it. He peers back over at Tabs. "I dunno the story. What people trapped in hell?"

Tabitha staaaaaares. "Seriously? I'm the one questioning the past and you're asking me questions about it?" The girl shakes her head and lets out a sigh, putting her feet back down on the floor. "Alright, lemme give you the abridged version of what's SUPPOSED ta be the history of Twisted. You know about the chaos an' the first settlement, right?"

Dante shrugs. "C'mon kid, gimme a break. I wanna help here." ... He shakes hid head slowly. "Sorry kid, I never pay attention to details. Enlighten me?" Yeah, thinking isn't REALLY his cup o' tea...

Tabitha shrugs again, "Okay. So the world was created by the Goddess Trinune who made th' first 'Street' out of the chaos. Th' first settlers came in and they built the Twisted City. They also all got sick because of a monster that was lurkin' in th' chaos an' the first Council was created to seal it away with 100 seals." She flails her fingers in a mockery of magic before letting out a sigh, "About fifty years later, give or take, there's this horrible fight with Datenshi's rebellion where he's fightin' against the Council. The Council chooses to just open up a gateway to another world an' sends the entire chunk of Twisted City with all the rebels and everything away. Diablo goes after it to make sure that they never return to attack Twisted." She pauses a moment and gestures out the window, "That screwed up mess where the chunk of the city was removed is the Wastelands. That's why the street just kinda stops there." Settling back in her chair she rubs her forehead a moment and continues, "Diablo sets up a new Council in Hell, which is what they called that other world, and starts tryin' ta send tha innocent people trapped there back. There was another big war between th' two Councils... and in the end Senior Diablo an' the Hell Council won. That's how he got put in charge."

Dante huhs. He kicks himself back onto one leg of the chair and ponders. "Gotcha. Sounds like Diablo was the good guy in this case. Keeping the bad guys in their place and tryin' to send the innocent people back. What's the problem?"

Tabitha crosses her arms, "Th' problem is that I've seen another Twisted. Th' one where I killed my grandmother. Tha same one where I was created by my mother, Sun." She shakes her head again. "As I remember it I grew up from a little kid by -a- Sun, an' Mom told me these stories about how Grandma was this great adventurer who discovered tha portal ta Hell in th' Wastelands. I spent my whole life tryin' ta be like her. When I told people about it they'd laugh at me, because everyone else knew that she was a mercenary who used ta sleep with everyone. She met my father going out to tha Hell portal an' he raped her an' killed her. Somehow Mom found me an' raised me because Samantha was my mother?" She pauses and rubs her head a moment. "I didn't think about it. I NEVER thought about it. I just know one day I'm runnin' away from everyone an' Diablo shows up and tells me I can be this great person an' redeem Samantha's name if I work for him." Suddenly she's rubbing her hands, trying to relax the joints in her fingers. "Except NO ONE I've spoken to since then has ever heard this story. I don't know what happened to -my- Sun, except the Sun that's here now: who happens to have her exact same name and used ta look exactly like her, remembers when I was created. Xue remembers when I was created. They showed me!! I'm a clone of Samantha Li-Bogard, which makes a lot more sense than that rape story."

Dante rubs his temples. SO MANY WORDS AND IDEAS AND WHY AM I NOT DRINKING-Ok. Fine. He smiles softly. "Tabs, this place is such a mismatch of everything and anything, I don't think ya fully understand just what you really a-..." He trails off. A sigh. He only has a hunch anyway. "Didja come here to ask me to go there with ya? To check this place out? See if it's true?"

Tabitha winces slightly as Dante starts rubbing his head. This was a lot to dump on the poor man. "Yeah. That's it. I just want to go check it out, see what's there. See if it fits th' story, an' then bug off back home." She picks up and puts away the dagger. "I'd feel a lot safer with you there with me than if I tried ta go alone."

Dante rubs his eyes. Well, he wants to help...but this is getting a little overbearing. He tries to sound comforting, "Listen, Tabs. I'm sorry you've had it so rough. I hate that you've been treated this way and in some ways Diablo sure as hell does deserve a boot right in his dusty boingers but...those memories all sound kinda disjointed and this is some funky magic to be playing with. I've gotta insist you don't go through with this. ... I'm sorry, Tabs. I really am. I'll help you, if you let me, but..."

Tabitha's face falls. "So if some supernatural thing was trying to eat me, you'd help me. But if I want to open a portal an' see just where it goes - you're too chicken ta follow me an' keep a girl safe?" She stands up grabs the side of her head a second before letting go and turning to face him again. "You've gotta be kiddin' me! I've seen your moves! I know what you can do! Wha'dya expect? We're gonna find some crazy demon who's gonna eat tha flesh from our bones? Isn't that th' sorta thing you bragged about fightin' anyways??"

Dante winces a bit. Shit. The stress is going to send her off in a personality spasm. Beautiful. He holds his hands up and speaks calmly. "C'mon Tabs. Don't do this. Calm down, sit back down...relax. I don't care which one of ya I end up talking to. That's perfectly alright, but ya gotta chill out and talk about this rationally. This isn't easy for me either, so just work with me for a second here..." Well, it's true. This is Dante's forte. He's playing this by ear out of a desperation NOT to have to physically stop Tabi. Or, try too, at least.

Tabitha glares angrily as he tries to get her to calm down. "WHICH ONE OF ME?" If ONLY she had something she could throw right now. Her hands are balled up into fists with the nails digging into her palms. "I KNEW I shouldn't have told you anything! I fuckin' knew it!!" She grabs the sides of his desk and lets her nails dig into that instead. "THE WHOLE REASON I'VE NOT BEEN AROUND WAS TO GET THAT UNDER CONTROL!!" Her voice lowers and she leans in closer, "I NEED answers, and this is th' ONLY fuckin' way I'm gonna get them. Even Diablo told me that dagger could open th' portal ta Hell." She draws her dagger out with her right hand, bringing the blade down onto the desk as well. "I'm going there tomorrow, an' one of two things are gonna happen. I'm gonna go there an' find part of Twisted sittin' in the middle of some other world, or I'm gonna go there an' I'm not gonna find anything. An' if it IS all a lie, I'm gonna come back and BURRY this dagger into Diablo's skull." She twists the dagger out and starts to walk out towards the door. "Maybe I'll just go find that brother of yours an' ask him! He didn't seem to be afraid of anythin' when he showed up an' kicked your ass at the tournament..."

Dante winces. He doesn't seem to have much else to say here. He might even look a little sad. He can do little more than shrug, however. He has her well being in mind and the LAST thing he wants is for her to go to his brother. ... Sadly, Diablo's probably going to have to hear about this, assuming he hasn't already of course.

Since Dante doesn't seem to be trying to stop her, Tabitha storms out, letting the door slam as loudly as she can as she goes out into the night. She doesn't care if anything breaks anymore. She barely cares about anything anymore. All that matters is that she gets as far away from this place as she can. "...well that was a waste of fuckin' time..."

The shadows in the room suddenly flail about wildly as if the source of light where suddenly taken and flung around in a circle. As abruptly as it starts, Senior Diablo is standing behind Dante looking down over his shoulder. "You should have offered to go with her."

Dante hehs. "Right. You wanted her to do all this?" He peers a bit over his shoulder. "For that matter...if you wanted me to go with her, why the hell not TELL me to go with her? Do you want to tell me what exactly is happenin' here or is keepin' me in the dark more msyertious? Don't I work for you now?"

Diablo shakes his head, folding his hands behind his back. "I told you there where things I had to do for the sake of Twisted that you should not question." He nods his head towards the door, "Sadly that was one of them." Wait, what exactly is he admitting to? "That girl has a powerful darkness inside her. One I'd hoped I could keep under control." The demon slowly makes his way towards the door, looking out to see if he can catch a glimpse of the long gone nekojin. "Right now she's become a wild card. I'd rather not see that card fall into the wrong hands." He turns and offers an apologetic shrug. "More so I'd rather not see her injured, and if she's set on her plans she will be." The devil shakes his head and glances out the doorway again. "I won't TELL you go to with her, because quite frankly I'd rather you didn't. There are things she's likely to discover that I'd rather have getting out." He sighs, "... but I can hardly go out and tell her not to do it when she clearly trusts me only slightly more than a knife being thrown at your head by a stranger."

Dante rubs his forehead. "Right. So, ya show up...say I *should* have gone with her. Explain that this is one of 'those' situations only to THEN tell me a whole BUNCH of stuff and then say I *shouldn't* go along with her." ... He shakes his head. "Alright. Fine. I guess leaving her by herself isn't an option. She's still...just a kid." He snorts. "I'm sure it doesn't hurt that I'll be the first one to get wrecked if she happens to lose it."

Senior Diablo shakes his head as he turns back towards Dante again. "I doubt she'll 'lose it' as you say. That's only happened once and from what I've overheard Caliga's recently made a full recovery." Oooooh, he wasn't supposed to know about that. "If you do decide to go with her, I would consider it a favor that would have to be repaid. If you do not..." He frowns, "I'll have to find some other means of keeping an eye on her." The demon shrugs, "Goodnight, Dante." And that's it? He turns and walks through the doorway, fading into the night instead of actually opening the door.

Dante peers after SD as he decides to disappear into the shadows. Always a flashy exit. Can't fault em for that one. He sighs softly. "A favor to be repaid, huh? I wonder how far he'll go to repay it." He closes his eyes as he leans back in his chair. "If I had known THIS was what everyone wanted, I would have just agreed. NOW I'm going to have to hear about it and possibly duck really fast. ... Damn it, I *hate* fucking apologizing. ... ... Just a kid though..."
