Up in one of the trees sits Rayne, perched on one of the lower branches. Her back is to the trunk and one leg is dangling below, but the other is crooked up to act as a makeshift surface for her art pad to sit on. Yes, Rayne is once again out in the park drawing things. At the moment, she's drawing the fountain itself, trying to capture the motion of the water, more specifically.

An unfamiliar place... At least this is anything but the first time. This marks the third time this young man in question has found himself completely displaced into some sort of multiple reality nexus...or whatever one would prefer to call them. As such, he's actually already WELL adapted to dealing with these situation. The NEW part of this situation is that for the first time, none of his friends and family seem to be on hand here before or at the same time as him. This guy in question....he WOULD look really mundane in his raglan shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers. Well he would if it wasn't for the fact his redheaded, amber eyed self is toting a back back that's obviously got at least ONE weapon sticking out of it. A scythe blade's all too visible.

Rayne looks up from her pad again at the fountain, frowning as she can't quite get the look right, at least not good enough for her. She looks down again and furiously starts erasing on the drawing pad, then looks up again as the scythe blade catches her eye. "Huh," she says aloud. She watches the man, unsure of what to think of him just yet. This is Twisted, so someone walking around with a blade sticking out of their backpack is fairly low on the weirdness scale, but it never hurts to be a little cautious.

The redheaded dude seems to have decide on taking a break. He stops at the opposite end of the fountain and takes off the back, sitting down in front of it, knees up. His arms then drape over his knees, where they proceed to be the resting spot for his chin as he tries to take the area in.

Rayne watches the man, eyeing the expression and sighing. She drops from the low branch and sets her art pad down to lean against the tree's roots before she starts approaching the redhead. "...Forgive me for prying, but... You look a little lost."

Shirou tilts his head back and offers a wave. "Oh, er, sorry if I bothered you," he replies, "I am a little lost though. This is another of the multiversal nexus places, isn't it? I know I'm not back in the war between the Union and the Confederacy again, but this isn't Metropolis either. I shouldn't need much help at all really."

Rayne blinks in surprise. Someone that's already been through this kind of universe already? This is a new one on her. "Oh.... well, yeah, then, I guess I don't need to explain that part... This place is called Twisted... Union and Confederacy? Metropolis?"

Shirou nods a little. "The first place I ended up in was in some constant full scale war between two factions that kept trying to take ownership of different resource points from each other. The second place was some altered version of Okinawa and still had wierd problems but was a lot less hectic than that first one."

Rayne nods, not seeming to have any recognition of either of those. "I... See. Well, Twisted is a bit... chaotic at times, and quaint and slow at others..." She frowns, glancing to the side. "Really, lately it's been more on the slow side."

Shirou nods in understanding. "Well I can't really complain about that," he replies, "Is there anything special I should know about Twisted, or does it seem to work like a normal place?"

Rayne tilts her head slightly, then nods. "Yes... a lot, actually. Integra Arms can offer you a free apartment, custom to order... Something about nanites and extradimensional space, I don't really understand it, to be honest. Across the street from there is the Usual Restaurant, where you can get food for free, though it's highly suggested that you tip the servers. I even tip the skutters, myself. Speaking of the servers, they have an incredibly lax hiring process if you need quick work." She tilts her head, thinking a moment before saying, "If you find what feels like a barrier... don't pass it. That's the Wastelands, and reality kind of... breaks down out there. TASK, the more or less police force around here, doesn't even go out there, it's just too dangerous."

Shirou says, "....you know ALL of these places so far have a wasteland area. I guess it's because of all that stuff about instability? ...and Metropolis had a Usual Restaurant too. Maybe it's a multiversal chain?" He shakes off his thoughts for a moment. "Lax hiring policy? ...I did do odd jobs as a repairman in metropolis, if anyone needs some kind of electronics or vehicle fixed."

Rayne frowns lightly, then shrugs. "I've not had anyone put in any requests for repair technicians lately, so I don't know of anyone hiring to do that kind of work." She frowns at the revelation of the common 'wasteland' area.... and even more, of the Usual Restaurant. "Huh," she says as she considers this all. "Well, if they're across the multiverse, I'd sure as heck like to know how the branches stay in contact with each other!"

Shirou says, "Yeah, that's a really good question. Well, I can do other things besides repair work." The revelation of lack of repairs needed doesn't seem to even give him much of a pause. "I'm willing to do most general labor kind of tasks, so I should be able to help out somehow."

Rayne shrugs at that. "Well, I'll have to go back and take a look at the files in the Welcome Center to see what kinds of employment requests we have right now. I've... Oh, right." She hits herself in the forehead with the palm of her hand. "I should introduce myself... Rayne Hurris, Second in command of TASK, though currently acting head, and founder of the Welcome Center. I'm kind of more official than I'd like to be around here, frankly." She doesn't offer her hand in greeting, however, instead she crosses her arms in front of her chest. By her face, she doesn't look standoffish, however, but friendly.

Shirou says, "I can understand that sort of feeling." He offers a slight bow of his head. "I'm Emiya Shirou, sub par magic user that's generally more skilled at using a kitchen, but willing to go where ever I'm needed."

Rayne grins at that. "Heeeey, sub-par mages all around, then." She makes a few quick motions of her hands, and a ball of light floats up from her palm before she dismisses it. "Well, I'd have to look through the requests... or have someone else do it... I really need to delegate more... And see if there's anything in the Welcome Center's files, but, like I said, I don't really know what kind of work you can find around at the moment. It might be better to ask around yourself for now... but in the meantime, you can find food at the Usual, like I said, and shelter at Integra Arms... Welcome to Twisted... do try to enjoy your stay." Her smile vanishes, replaced by a frown. "After all, you may be here for a while."

Shirou says, "Yeah, I'm expecting that given how many years I was at both the other places before I got displaced again. ...my only real concern is the past two times I was at least with people close to me. This time it seems to just be me. It's not that I'm worried about myself though." More he's trying not to imagine Saber devouring the apartment cause no one's making her diner anymore. Speaking of diner though. "I think I'll go to the Usual for now. You don't need to go through finding work for me, that sounds like it'd be a pain for you to have to deal with."

Rayne laughs nervously with a hand at the back of her head. "Yeah, uh... sorry. We've tried at the Welcome Center to place new arrivals with work, but... well, honestly, it seems to always work out better when people find the jobs on their own."

Shirou says, "That's completely understandable. The way people keep randomly appearing and disappearing in places like these, it must be ridiculous trying to stay on top of those things."

Rayne looks like she might be about to say something... but at the mention of people disappearing, she frowns and glances away. "Yeah," she eventually says. "It can be rough."

Shirou frowns slightly as well. "Yeah, I know..." he admits, "Well, I won't ask you to look through your paper work, but if your place ends up needing something even an idiot can handle, I'm sure I'll be able to make time to help out."

Rayne looks back up and frowns slightly. "Well... We don't let new arrivals help out in the Welcome Center... You know, it helps if you've been around for a while. But.... actually, I think we could use you there when you know your way around Twisted... If this is your third universe like this, then I'm guessing you know how a place like this works better than I do?"

Shirou looks thoughtful. "Well maybe? And yeah, I can get that too." "I'm guessing the Usual was that restaurant a short walk back?"

Rayne nods to Shirou. "More than likely. If it wasn't Eat or Die, and assuming you didn't cross a bridge to get here. Twisted itself is a small town compared to Neo-Edo on the other side of the bridge, there's a lot more over there."

Shirou nods in understanding. "Thank you," replies before he gets up and picks his bag back up. "I'll be going to the Usual, I guess I might be seeing you around."

Rayne nods with a light sigh. "Yeah... Sorry I can't be of more help, but...." She frowns. "Yeah. The uncertainty is rough."

Shirou shakes his head. "You gave me what info I really needed, you did fine."

Rayne gives Shirou a weak smile. "Well... Welcome to Twisted. Good luck out there."

Shirou smiles back more fully. "Thank you, and it was nice meeting you." He heads off in the correct direction, offering a wave over one shoulder.
