Character Statistics

Here on Twisted we are using a four statistic system for governing a character's basic abilities. As characters change during role play, we don't expect these numbers to be set in stone. We are simply asking players to include this information upon character creation so that (when combined with regularly posted logs) we can keep track of a character's progress and have a rough estimate of what a character can do. These four statisics are Physical Ability, Knowledge, Magical Knowledge, and Superhuman Ability. Again, these are to get a basic idea about a character.

Note Note: These statistics are only used as a guide for settling disputes - which is both why we require them and why they're not required to be posted publicly. In a perfect world the flow of role play is enough to determine what happens, but we have to acknowledge that sometimes this just isn't the case.

Physical Ability How much your body has been trained.
Knowledge How trained your mind is on a subject or group of subjects.
Magical Knowledge What is your understanding/power of magic?
Superhuman Ability How attuned is your chi, psionics, or other non-magical special abilities?

For each of these statistics we are using a 10 point grading scale to determine your character's knowledge/experience in each field.

10 Deity level, no limits No greater skill is possible. Your ability is endless.
9 Seemingly endless ability Your skill is seemingly endless, but there is a breaking point.
8 Artificially mastered Someone or something has pushed you past the maximum human limits.
7 Lifetime study/mastery You've spent your whole life practicing and mastered all you can.
6 Advanced Skill You've spent decades studying.
5 Practiced Skill You've spent a few years practicing.
4 Natural Basic Ability You are one of the few blessed with natural talent.
3 Elementary understanding You have basic textbook knowledge/skill.
2 Primitive Understanding You know there's more to this skill, but you don't know first-hand.
1 Faint potential to understand The potential is inside you, but you don't know it yet.
0 No knowledge/power to speak of What? I don't understand? Where's the tea?

If your abilities cannot be summarized as they are too chaotic or fluctuate too much please write a paragraph explaining how/why this is so our staff can understand the situation.

Stat level 10 characters

Please consider carefully before listing a character's stat level at 10. This implies that your character has infinite knowledge/ability in a subject. They already know all the answers. This is why it's listed as a 'deity'. A character at this level will not have any room to grow and is very frowned upon by players. It is rare to see even staff characters with pure level 10 stats - even when that character exists only as a plot device.

Typically the most powerful characters have stats closer to 7. Level 10 mainly exists for completeness sake.

Estimating Threat Level

The following is not a requirement, but simply something we're throwing out for those who have trouble understanding this system and how characters compare to one another. By adding all four numbers together and dividing by four we arrive at what we like to call a character's "threat level." This value shows approximately how well character A will do against character B. Again, this is more to help give a basic idea, not set things in stone. Twisted MUCK is more concerned with free-form RP (i.e. the flow of the scene determines the outcome) than statistic-based combat. The only time these numbers should concern anyone is at the creation of a character or in the event of a out-of-character conflict when no other resolution can be found.

( [ ]+[ ]+[ ]+[ ] ) / 4 = Threat level
