Outpost 17 is an O-type station originally placed in the area now known as the neutral zone to serve as a platform to research the growing population of warp capable cultures. However, due to the Treaty of Organia the station was decommissioned and stripped of all materials. After the discovery of the singularity referred to as SEH-01, the station was towed to the Hideki Sector and recommissioned to further study the phenomenon.

After bringing it up to modern standards, the station is roughly equivalent to 3 Klingon D7's and would normally rely upon a Constitution class and it's support ships to aid in case of emergency. However, since that's not an option currently the station's crew have routed the stations weapons directly into the core utilizing experimental techniques developed by Captain Jon Munster and Commander Yoiko Hax.

Large enough to absorb the crew of a Constitution-class cruiser on Shore Leave without major disruption, the station has started to become popular among local traders seeking a safe haven to trade. One of the large shuttle bays along the upper ring has been converted to a bazaar, hosting tents and stalls of various local and federation traders to hawk their wares.

Around the middle of the station's 'stem' are a ring of docking pylons that can be extended or retracted as needed for various ships. These are sometimes used by passing 'Storefront' ships, which house the owner's sales floor within the ship itself.

Around the station have been constructed a basic set of Shipyard dry docks. They are somewhat hastily constructed, but done by a crew with experience in engineering. One dock is specifically dedicated to slow refitting of the Vesuvius which has been assigned to this sector for defense, but there are several others to help service local ships.

There are several shuttles assigned to the station for a variety of purposes.

Things of interest: USS Vesuvius.
