Website?

Postby The Gatekeeper » Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:32 am

I have been researching Atmosfear and I found a mention of a website was created for The Harbingers on it's release. Does anyone know anything about this website and maybe have a screenshot of it? :)

There was on for the DVD game, but not for Harbingers.

<_< Oh... THAT website... >_>

From the old FAQ:
What happened to Gatekeeper Fantasies, the Official Website for the PC game, Atmosfear: The Third Dimention? The person in charge of creating, updating, and maintaining the site was sent an email from a fan suggesting that the site should include meta-tags so that it could be found on search engines. The person in question replied (quite rudely) that the person sending him email had no buisness telling him what to do seeing as how he was paid to do sites like these and the letter writer was an immature person who knew nothing at all about web design. Unfortunitly, the original email was not sent from the fan's email account, but in fact from the account of a known computer tech profesional who took great resentment from the replied email and made it his life's mission to destroy the site. After 3 failed attempts at re-posting the site, the rude man gave up and the site was lost forever. Portions of the site in question can be found in text on some websites and a few of the surviving images have recently resurfaced on some of the Nightmare/Atmosfear fansites...

...I'm still not at liberty to say why I know what I do of that site.

Does anyone know what was on that site? Any interesting pictures/videos/text? It's a stretch because it wasn't included in search engines, but might it be archived in the Wayback Machine?

News story from The New York Times (31 October 1995) wrote:One particularly elaborate campaign is for Atmosfear , a video board game promising "frightening fun" that is being marketed by the International Games division of Mattel Inc. There are spots that start this week on MTV and a cross-promotion in stores with soft drinks sold by the Cadbury Beverages unit of Cadbury Schweppes P.L.C. "It's no coincidence our media coincides with Halloween," said Thom Miller, senior vice president and group management director at Foote, Cone & Belding in Los Angeles, owned by True North Communications. "The whole theme is very ghoulish." There is even a site on the World Wide Web for Atmosfear (http://www.atmosfear.com/gatekeeper); it's the first for any Mattel product.

I found the above story while I was going through the newspaper archives, which is where my question came from. It could be talking about the fan site, as it doesn't say Mattel made the website.

Unfortunately it's not in the wayback machine and I was not a fan of Atmosfear then, so I'll have to leave this to the ones who were.

If I recall right (Assuming it IS the PC Game site in question) it had a few pages about each of the provinces and Harbingers (mostly text from the packaging), some pictures which are still drifting around the net, and some random voice clips from the PC game. That was about it. Most interesting thing on the whole site was the Gatekeeper's text explaining the setting.

Image

"Welcome to my web of deceit, maggot. It is a site for sore eyes - even worse than the site of you. I have seen lepers look better, maggot. You don't mind if I call you maggot, do you? Not that I'd mind if you did. All you have to do is mind your manners - I always seem to forget mine."

"The only thing I mind is The Other Side. It is a dreadful place! It is my kind of place - a place lost somewhere between nowhere and forever - where the only thing to fear is fear itself."

"A land of limbo you can only ever visit in your worst nightmares - and I am here to help you have one."

"And I? I am THE GATEKEEPER. I am the voices in your head and the shadows in the dark. I am the Judge and Jury. The beginning, the middle and the end of this life and the one before the next. I am The Gatekeeper. Sincerely."

"Not that sincerity was ever one of my qualities. I despise it as much as stories with happy endings."

"So let us dispense with that tired 'Once upon a time...' in favor of a bigger entrance like SHUT UP and listen up."

...that picture may or may not have come from the site too. >_> <_<;
