Miriya is at attention in front of the captain's desk, briefing her, in absence of the XO, on events during her honeymoon. Which all told isn't much. Except that Miriya is still unhappy with her flight's performance in training. "I still think issuing live ammo would teach them to dodge."

Violet is tapping the now out of date nameplate on her desk as Miriya speaks. "...Yes, I understand. That is the way you trained, but... I still think the techs would have your hide if you actually did that. Do you really, REALLY want that? Last time one of the pilots messed with the techs, they left an old egg salad and beef sandwich in a paper bag behind her flight seat." She now does glance upward. "And that's not counting the threat that would be for pilot injury or death. Request, again, is denied."

Miriya sighs. "Understood" then shakes her head. "At any rate that is all that's happened unless something special happened ship side that the XO didn't tell me

Violet picks up the nameplate and considers tossing it into the bin... but decides against it when she considers it might take time to get a replacement. And there's supposed to be some new recruit to fill that recent weapons officer opening. Turnover can be odd in this fleet, sometimes. "Well, I suppose that's good. I've not had a chance to catch up with Artanis yet." She looks up to Miriya once again. "Wait... would rubber ammo count for live for you? Because I can check with the mechanics to see how much that could actually mess up the fighters. I'll, of course, consider it as being not quite as bad as they make it out to be."

Miriya ponders this. And mutters something in zentraedi about it being unsoldierly but the word soldier also means Zentraedi.

Miriya says, " I suppose it's a start commander."

Violet raises an eyebrow at the muttering. "I'm sorry, what was that? I don't speak Zentraedi." She meanwhile taps out notes on inquiring with the mechanics about rubber ammo.

Miriya says, "It's nothing. Zentraedi stop using fake weapons within a month after leaving the cloning chamber."

And then there would be a carefully measured knock on the door. They're knocking enough to get attention, but not banging on it hard enough to be irritating.

Violet keeps her eyebrow raised. "We're not Zentraedi. We don't have cloning to give us endless soldiers, nor do we use flash memory training." She says that last part with a bit of acid in her tone. There's definitely something personal there. With that said, she looks up at the door at the knocking, then back to Miriya. "I think this might be that new recruit... Whose file I've not had a chance to look over yet." She sighs slightly as she starts pulling up the data finally, then says, "Come on in."

Miriya Braces to a stiffer form of attention as Violet takes her to task, then relaxes and drops into an 'at ease' stance with her feet spread and hands behind her back. She turns and looks towards the door with an expression of mild curiousity.

Shirogane enters the room, offering a proper salute before closing the door and then returning to attention. "I'm Takashi Shirogane, I was sent to meet with you here today?"

Miriya comes to attention and let's the senior officer return the salute. "Greetings Warrior

Violet salutes back, then looks back down at her datapad. "Aaah, Ensign Takashi, yes. You've been assigned as a weapons officer..." She looks through the file, then frowns slightly. "Trained up since you arrived a month or so ago... But it says here you've got significant pilotting experience prior to your arrival." She's not bothering to hide the fact that she's not looked over the file until just now. "Was the descision to go into weapons due to the opening? Or did you just want to round yourself out more?"

Miriya arches an eyebrow. She doesn't say anything but Shirogane identification as a pilot has obviously piqued her interest.

Shirogane says, "A little of both of those honestly. I actually arrived here evading an agressive race of aliens and I wanted to put myself in a position that might allow me to be available to assist in Neo Tokyo's protection if they arrive here.""

Violet smirks lightly. "Well, if you're manning our plasma beams... you'll be dishing out quite a bit. Here on Phoenix we punch a bit outside our weight class." She regains her composure slightly, and glances at Miriya. Yes, she was expecting that to have gotten her attention. "We... might go for some cross training on the VF-24 for you. And perhaps a bit on helm as well, though I doubt our current helmswoman is going anywhere anytime soon..." She then clears her throat and looks back up at Shirogane. "So... Since I'm already reading up on you as we go along... perhaps you'd prefer to explain yourself rather than rely on what someone else has written for me to read?"

Miriya says, "It would be nice to get the whole squadron in VF-24s"

Starfire pages, "Ohh. Hm. Yeah, dun remember them at all. XD" to you.

Shirogane nods in reply. "That seems more than acceptable to me," he answers, "And I can do that, yes." Though he's not really sure where to start from. "...I am primarily a space exploration based astronaut, but I have had some amount of battle training before going on my last mission.

Violet looks over this part of his history. "....Ah, yes. Something about one of Pluto's moons in here... Well, I suppose you've learned by now that our fleet is a bit more advanced than what you're used to."

Miriya says, "How are you as an atmospheric pilot?"

Shirogane nods in reply. "I've gained a bit of an advantage over what I used to have when it comes to more advanced tech than my own." He doesn't bother to go into explanation on that, but the obviously metalic arm might appear to have some sort of relation to that statement. ...I'd say I could use a little improvement, but that shouldn't be difficult to handle."

Miriya nods "Well, we'll find out once we get that VF.

Violet glances at the arm, then back to Shirogane's face. "Right. The, uh, alien thing. Sooo.... I do hope you're comfortable working alongside non-humans, because my XO is a Protoss." She looks down at the file again, then nods. At this point, he's already been assigned. "Well then..." She stands up. "Have you been shown around the ship yet, or did they just send you straight to me?"

Miriya says, "I'm certain he hasn't toured the flight deck yet."

Miriya says, "Don't be surprised at what you find in the flight wing's quarters. Most of them began as what are called Otaku."

Shirogane nods in reply. "Due to the imprisonment I went through at the hands of the alien race I mentioned early, I got to learn of several other alien races that were enslaved by them. I know not all aliens are the enemy..." He blinks a little at Miriya's statement. "Otaku," he repeats, "I can't say I expected to run into such a thing in the line of work, but I can't say that's overly surprizing either! And no, they sent me right to you."

Violet picks up the datapad, then looks over it some more with a frown. This then turns into a slight grimace. "Hrm. We may need to have a discussion with them about this..." She forces a smile back to her face as she looks back to Shirogane, though. "Okay, then. Well, let's take a walk, Ensign. I want to remind the rest of the crew that I'm back as we go about." With that said, she steps around the desk.

Miriya nods and looks like she's going to follow.

Shirogane prepares to follow Violet as she makes to show him about. He's debating saying something further in reguards to the situation before, but he's really not sure how breach it. He's also honestly a little concerned for how much it might affect how Violet might view him, but any possible problems should be mentioned rather than put anyone in danger later. ...still it's a bit difficult to just bring up unbidden. He'll figure out a way to bring up whatever is on his mind in time.

Violet in fact motions for Miriya to follow along with them. "All right. Well, the quarters are all lumped together... that door in the back of my office was to my own... Er, as well as the helmswoman, Ensign Alexa Karrde-Donovan, now, I suppose." She grins breifly at this, then clears her throat. "The armory is nearby as well, in case of boarding actions." She glances down a far hallway, then motions down that direction. "Engineering is down that way, but I don't see any likely reason you'll need to frequent that area."

Miriya says, "I like the armoury. It has good things."

Shirogane says, "Armory, important thing to remember the placement of." He says this as he obviously takes some mental notes down of what Violet is saying. ...being focused on certain specifics he's also a little slow to add "Oh, Congradulations.""

Violet grins back at the congratulations. "Thanks! Just got back from the Honeymoon I think... an hour ago?" She laughs once, then takes them to a lift tube to continue along with the ship tour.

Violet passes by the transporter room. "I'm guessing they brought you in there. While our transporters don't /require/ the use of that room, we prefer it for some regularity. The Transport Rings that /would/ require the room's use don't have any matching sets anywhere nearby, so they've gone mostly unused. I've put in a request that any found be put at HQ so we can have a transport system that works when our shields are up. Er, if you're familiar with Star Trek, it's kinda like that... but also not. Phoenix is from a lesser known metaseries called Stargate."

Miriya nods. Transportation isn't her area of expertise or interest. Techs make stuff work.

Shirogane says, "These sort of things are still a thing that's new to me. I've seen this sort of technology very slightly durring my time in space. I'll make a point of getting more accoustomed to them." With Violet noting the time of return from her honeymoon, he raises a brow and folows it up with a smile. He's also taking note to be VERY careful about not disturbing her more than needed for a little while due to that. "...oh, I'm not THAT far behind then!""

Violet next takes them on into one of the hangar bays. "Okay, Miriya, this is your home territory... you want to give him the rundown here?"

Miriya says, "yes, This is the home of Red Squadron, The best flight wing in the NTSDF. The bays hold all our fighters so they can launch simultaneously except for the spares. The current fighter is the VF - 24 which has a wide array of weaponry, Weaponry, including MELEE WEAPONS."

Shirogane says, "I'm actually a little more experianced in melee than ship weapons, so that's a good bonus." He is continuing to write many a mental note on what he is being shown and told.

Miriya says, "It's called a Beam Saber. It's very fun."

Violet clears her throat. "Aum, anyway, yes, we have the squadron, a couple of spare fighters, a couple of officer fighters-" She motions towards the VF-22. "-As well as our shuttles." She motions again towards a small craft that doesn't look any larger than the fighters, but definitely roomier. It clearly doesn't have remotely the combat capabilities of any of the fighters. "This is only half the compliment here, of course. I'm sure you saw the specs, we've got two bays. I assume you're familiar enough with our fighters over your training to understand the Variable-Fighter concept, right?"

Shirogane says, "Yes, this was covered durring the training." He's peering over the fighters in question.

Miriya says, "That's a good start. But we will have to put you in one and see what you can do."

Violet glances at Miriya again. "Easy, girl. We need a good weapons officer still, remember, and you have a full squadron." She looks back at the door. "Unless you have anything else to add, though.... We probably should keep moving?"

Miriya says, "No I think that covers anything that needs to be said."

Shirogane stands at the ready to continue following along, not really having a lot to input at the moment. "I'm prepared to do that when it is needed," he says in reply to Miriya's statement.

Violet nods, and then starts walking for the door. "Well, you'll need to be certified, of course. I don't let anyone fly these without it."

Violet moves back into a lift tube, taking them back up, then down a hallway towards the bridge.

Miriya says, "this is where the people who bring us to battle work."

Violet returns the salute of another ensign, the one currently on bridge duty who is seated at the helm. "It's also where you'll work, Ensign." She motions towards the empty seat next to the other ensign. "Again, I apologize for not having the chance to look voer your complete file, but... While our primary weaponry is the plasma beams, our secondary weapons are the 16 missile tubes, each loaded with a nuclear warhead." She looks back to Shirogane. "I'm /assuming/ that you have no objections to using those on enemy warships, given that you're here."

Miriya says, "No Trouble here. Although we tend to use Reflex weaponry"

Shirogane nods in reply. "As I'd assume we aren't just flying around shooting random ships with no idea of if we'd need to, yes I'm totally fine with that."

Violet nods to them both. "Of course not. We're a defense fleet, and we're well used to ships arriving that are just... lost. We always attempt diplomacy first, and usually would strive for a less than lethal takedown... unless, of course, they /are/ a known threat. Then we give them once chance to surrender."

Miriya says, "Most don't"

Violet says, "Well... Known threats are called that for a reason."

Shirogane nods in reply. "And if they show up, I'm sure the Galra will not surrender either..."

Miriya shrugs "If they don't surrender then they face their doom

Violet nods back. "And then you'll be the one to put a plasma beam on their bridge." She grins and nods to Miriya as well. "I suppose this concludes the tour for now. I've not yet set up bridge duty schedules to relfect you just yet... Oh, we work on a bridge rotation schedule here when on low alert. Always two people on bridge at a time, and even that many primarily because of biological needs. Other than that, for you, I'll expect you to be training when on duty but not on bridge duty. When off duty, which is fairly generous for a military vessel, you're welcome to spend time down at the surface. Just expect that, if a situation happens, we will give you only a few seconds warning before we beam you back up aboard."

Miriya says, "That can be bad if you're in the shower."

Violet says dryly, "In emergency situations, we do transport you to your quarters, just in case. Though Miriya has had some issues anyway."

Miriya says, "Usually not related to the transporters."

Shirogane says, "Understood, and I can't say I'm all that concerned about things like my free time these days, so I'm sure it won't be an issue for me."

Miriya nods "When you're dislocated from your life. it's hard to make a new one. but there is always work.

Violet nods. "Right." She steps up to the captain's chair and takes a seat. "Well, that... I suppose is that for orientation. You're not scheduled for duty... at all just yet, I'll be getting to it shortly. But for now... I suggest you get yourself settled in. It's as they say here... Long periods of bordom punctuated by absolute chaos and terror. We can go months without an alert, but we have to always be ready. So... find your quarters and offload your things."

Shirogane says, "The dislocation of my life happened far more than a month ago. I'm sure I'll find some sort of new grove to get into eventually, now that I have the freedom to do that again...and a little boredom will be welcome here at the start. Gives me more time to get everything memorized."

Shirogane doesn't really have anything to offload, but yes he could use actually finding his quarters. A bed of his own again deffinetly would NOT be something to complain about!

Miriya goes over the replicator. "The nice thing about these things is no one tries to stop me from making coffee when I use them. " to the machine she says as she programs. "Latte with a cream leaf on top"

Shirogane smiles as he sits down near by with a coffee of his own. "I'm actually not even used to having normal food available while I'm on a space craft. It's going to be nice to have these sort of things around. Do these replicators just make anything then?"

Miriya says, "I don't know. My experience with terran food is limited. I.. 'grew up' with various colours and flavours of paste."

The door shifts open, and through steps a fairly tired looking Violet. "Mrrrg. Getting back to work is such a pain after having time off...." She then grins a bit goofily as she thinks about her time off... Then blinks and tries to recover her composure when she noticed the other two in there. "Oh, uh, hi."

Shirogane says, "Huh, you actually sound more used to the typical space craft food where I came from then... I've been eating whatever passes as Galarian prison mush for some time now. Before that it was what they use for space craft for a few years. It was amazing getting to eat normal, Japanese food again for the first time in years. Hello Captain.""

Miriya says, "Captain, Have some coffee? I didn't attempt to make it."

Violet says, "Hey, uh, Shirogane." She glances between the two as she reaches for the replicator specifically dedicated to coffee. "And really, guys... This is the lounge. No rank when you're off duty. I'm just here for some coffee."

Shirogane says, "You can call me Shiro if you prefer that. It usually makes it easier on people. Right, Violet...are there any kind of limitations on the replicators aside from the obvious ones?""

Miriya says, "Miriya is fine if you insist."

Violet groans and rolls her eyes. "Yes, yes, Miriya. How many times have we been over this?" She sighs and hangs her head before looking up at Shiro. "As far as I know? The flavor. They're /supposed/ to be just as good as the real thing, in theory as good as the real thing... but it never quite tastes right, if you ask me."

Miriya sips her Latte. "My people don't harrass me about my cooking skills here at least.

Shirogane says, "Oooh. Well, at least I doubt I'd notice the difference in most cases. Oh, I didn't think to say it earlier, and that was rude of me. Thank you for having me. I know it's a bit of a risk with how hard it is to prove much about things like identity in the multiverse."

Violet takes a sip of her own coffee. "Hey, maybe if you practice more, you can get better. Think of it like cooking training... not that you can do it on board, of course... Do you even have an apartment?" She pauses, then glances at Shiro again. "Oh, well... to be honest, you kinda got thrown at me while I was either off on a desrted island or completely out-system." She pauses, looking lost in thought for a moment... is that a slightly lecherous look on her face? She shakes her head to clear those thoughts from her mind before looking back to Shiro. "I'd have to check the exact time, but it doesn't really matter. Still, if the fleet thought you were good, so will I unless you prove otherwise."

Miriya says, "I can prepare coffee just fine now. No one will let me forget the time I cooked the coffee pot however."

Shirogane says, "I think that's a problem a lot of us can understand." He frowns thoughtfully. "Speaking of problems, though. I was meaning to mention something that didn't actually come up in the records. Just as a procaution, I have had some rare loss of focus since my escape and my rehabilitation at the hospital. I seem to be operating up to par but, I know that's the sort of thing that should be brought up." Of course he'd call it 'loss of focus' cause he hasn't even been outside of the gladiator arena long enough to realise what it is.

Violet's left eyebrow twitches. "You cooked... a coffee pot? What, did you put it in an oven or something?" After a three second beat, she looks back over to Shiro again. "Loss... of focus. Really." That's something that actually makes her frown. "I want a full report on everything when you... loose focus. What you were doing, the exact symptoms, vitals data if you can get it."

Miriya says, "I used cooking oil. The flames were quite surprising. Fortunately Max knew how to use the fire extinquisher."

Shirogane nods in reply. "I'll get on that as soon as I notice any other symptoms. I expect it may just still be my body recovering from the imprisonment and pod crash, but better to be careful in these lines of work.

Violet nods. "That... could well be, but still. Full reports." She then sweatdrops and tilts her head to look at Miriya. "...you've... gotten fire extinguisher training of some sort since then, I hope."

Miriya says, "Yes and I can operate kitchen appliances safely. but like I said, They don't let me forget."

Miriya says, "It's not a problem with replicators though. So I haven't had to hurt anyone in a long time."

Shirogane raises a brow. "You mean you don't have to hurt anyone for teasing you, I hope."

Miriya says, "A round on the martial arts mats usually silences the wiseacres."

Violet says, "Oh, and here I thought you were talking about with your food."

Miriya says, "corporal punishment... it's not just tradition, it's how you get a soldier's attention."

Shirogane chuckles a little. "Well, as long as nothing comes up that makes you have to clean again, I guess they're safe for now..."

Miriya sips her latte. "well I've had to do a lot without Max. But there was a time I was very ignorant.

Violet winces slightly as Miriya mentions her husband. As a newlywed, this mention makes her remember that the nature of NeoTokyo could take Alexa from her, or the other way around. "I... yeah. We've all had our ignorant moments. But.... cleaning?"

Miriya says, "Cooking. Cleaning is simple. Just make sure you plug the hose into the right end of the vaccum"

Shirogane says, "Err, cooking. Why did I say cleaning?"

Miriya says, "well it's all part of the mystery of culture."

Violet frowns slightly at Shiro's flub. "Is this one of those... moments of lost focus?" She then glances to the side at Miriya. "...You say that like having a culture is a rare thing."

Miriya says, "It was ...like... the Mutiny on the bounty. English sailors knew no other life than the rigor the Royal Navy and were easily seduced by the leasurely ways of the tropical islanders. Likewise Terran culture was novel and compelling to a people who only knew war."

Shirogane shakes his head. "No, nothing like that, just a random slip of the tongue. Goodness knows cleaning is something we all have to deal with in any case..."

Miriya says, "Even Zentraedi can use a broom and dust pan."

Violet looks at Shiro another moment before she shrugs. "All right, then." She takes another sip of her coffee. "Cleaning... I swear, I never kept my personal space clean until I met Alexa." she then frowns. "I wonder if I might go back to slobbing it now that we're married. I also wonder if she'll care or punch me for it."

Shirogane says, "I've not been married yet, but I'd imagine that's part of the adventure of it all."

Miriya says, "Max was very patient."

Miriya looks wistful.

Violet shrugs to Shirogane. "Well... it's an adventure all right." She looks again to Miriya, frowning slightly. "Well...Yeah... I mean, yeah, he had to adjust you to living a life of more than just war, right? You know, after you tried to kill him."

Shirogane settles quietly into drinking some more of his coffee. It looks to him like he's entirely out of place with the current conversaion. At least it's not completely awkward and likely to make him run off like it is with some people.

Miriya says, "yes well, it was still give and take."

Miriya smiles and sips her coffee

Violet says, "Miriya, I've seen the series. you tried to stab him with a knife. Was that giving him a knife, or taking his life?"

Shirogane raises a brow again. "Series? ...yeah I've heard about that aspect of things here..." He says that in an awkward way that makes it a little obvious that he's avoiding asking about the whole stabbing thing.

Miriya says, "yes. things you thought private are ... public record."

Miriya says, "He convinced me otherwise Violet. Micronian ways have their appeal."

Violet says, "'Oh, yes, Miriya. You could stab me, but how about marrying me instead?' It was something along those lines, right? Boy, you were hard to convince. Granted, I tackled Alexa when she asked me, but... it was a bit different." She winces as Shirogane mentions that part again."

Shirogane says, "I guess that makes it an even better thing that I've grown accustomed to having no privacy. I shouldn't take much time getting reaquainted to the idea!" He's not saying as such in any complaintive type of manner, mind, he's smiling and seems to be saying it with at least a little humor intended behind it. "It is still an adjustment, waking up in a place like this...even with how disconnected I already was after the time on the shuttle and being stuck in the colloseum.""

Miriya nods.

Violet tries to shrug non-chalantly. "Sooooo, have you looked into that yourself, Shiro? Anyone recognize you?"

Shirogane shakes his head. "At least I don't /think/ anyone's noticed me....and I haven't looked into it. Maybe I should see if I can find out about my other two crew mates.

Violet pauses a moment, then looks at Miriya and seemingly asks her out of nowhere, "How'd you find that picture of your future family, Miriya?"

Miriya says, "don't google yourself. at least not with 'safe search' off."

Miriya says, "Google."

Miriya says, "also my daughter. one of my future daughters. is here in the city. aparantly I wasn't the best mother . She avoids me."

Shirogane frowns slightly at that bit of information. "Sorry to hear that, it sounds rather unplesant to discover. ...with things like that going on though, are we sure this isn't causing some sort of paradox?"

Violet glances back at Shirogane. "That's the problem with looking yourself up. You don't know what you might find about what's supposed to be your future." She sips the last of her coffee. "Well... I should get back to work. That was enough of a break, I suppose."

Miriya finishes her Latte "I have some more drills for my pilots to do. THEN some running and calesthenics.

Shirogane says, "Nice speaking with you both. I'll work more on memorizing my way around."
