The Usual Restaurant

You walk into a well lighted room, it's high ceilings lit by dozens of fluorescent lamps hanging from the ceiling. To the south and west are windows, which you would normally expect to see the outside world from, but looking out of them, you see only a misty gray haze. On the walls to the north and the east of the inn are an eclectic collection of paintings, photographs and even holographs of many cheap 1970's to 1980's B-movies. The bar on the east side is made out of hardwood, it's surface polished and shiny. Behind the bar, the various beverages that are served here are kept in relatively neat containers on wooden shelves. There is a large stage in one of the corners of the restaurant with a impressive sound system and a few microphones strung about it. Multiple round wood tables are in this room, near the north wall, is a double swing door that leads to the kitchen. On the east wall is a door leading to the UR's dance club and on the west one leading to the Gym. To the south, is the exit to the outside. A recent addition to the UR is a large fireplace against the west wall, it matches well to the rest of the restaurant and looks like it should have been there all along.

Sitting alone in the UR, the young Eva Pilot, is ... consuming, a meal consisting of precisely ordered amounts of defatted cream cheese, crackers and orange juice. She looks pale and blank. Wait a minute, Rei always looks pale and blank. Today she looks more so. Rei is seated at the bar.

Violet steps into the restaurant with a slight yawn as she approaches the bar. She pauses halfway there, blinking at the sight of Rei at the bar. With a light sigh, she deflates just a little and approaches, sitting in a seat two away from her to give the Eva pilot some space, but still easily close enough for conversation. "...You're gonna get a lot of unwanted looks with that getup, Miss Ayanami."

Rei pauses mid-bite, puts her morsel down and turns empty handed to examine the person who just addressed her. There is a pause, as if she is evaluating the need for a reply. "I have already noted the problem." another pause. a slight narrowing of the eyes as yet another stranger takes liberty with her name. "Identify yourself."

Violet Long green hair contrasts with the red in her uniform. She's wearing a jacket with a pattern on it like a red vest with white shoulders. The jacket goes all the way down to her thighs, and is held close to her waist by a black belt, which has two holsters for her blasters. There are markings on the upper arms marking her as a Lieutennant Commander. Under the jacket she wears long black pants, all the way down to end over her black boots. She seems fairly young, at the oldest in the early twenties, but more likely in her late teens, and has a relatively thin, athletic build. If forced, she'll have on her red beret, but most likely she won't have that on.

Violet frowns slightly, recognizing the look of distaste. "Lieutennant Commander Violet Karrde. Uhhhh... I guess you don't recognize my voice at all, do you?" She glances away with a terse sigh. . o O ( Well, at least she can use personal pronouns. ) She then looks back to Rei with a shrug. "Can't say I blame you, to be honest. Not like I really did anything, in the end."

Rei nods, more an internal expression 'information noted'. "Against the Angel. The...Gundam?...pilot." the human file cabinet shuffles a few more files. "NeoTokyo Space Defense Fleet", Her final nod can be taken as a polite greeting. She then proceeds to pop a precise amount of cracker and cheese into her mouth and chew stolidly.

Violet raises an eyebrow and nods. "Let me guess: You figured that out from the 'didn't do anything' part more than anything else." She sighs and shakes her head before turning to the bartender to order a club sandwich and orange soda. She mutters something about women acting like robots under her breath, then shakes her head again. "So if you've noted the problem... why?"

The blue haired girl remains largely expressionless, then decides to offer a correction "I recognize authority." then appears to think some more before answering the question. "It is not an urgent concern..." there is a pause "I have seen the internet." Rei grows, if possible, more pale.

Violet tilts her head and grabs her soda as it arrives, raising an eyebrow at the announcement of seeing the internet. "Well... Good?" She doesn't seem to get why seeing the internet is a thing worth talking about. It's the worsening expression on Rei that finally gets it to click with her. "Wait.. you didn't... Google yourself, did you? Please tell me you had safe search on..."

Now there is a blush on Ayanami's cheeks and her expression can only be described as utter befuddlement mixed with a healthy dose of mortification. "No." is her only answers. Two more precise doses of crackers and cheese are rapidly consumed.

Violet groans and facepalms. "Oh, dear god. There should be like a pamphlet or something for people that show up here... and the first words should be 'Do not Google yourself without safe search on.'" She sighs again, shaking her head for a moment before looking up again. "You gonna be okay?"

Rei eats some more precision portions of her dinner before answering. "It's not a problem." again a pause. "However, I am... Disappointed."

Violet blinks. "Disappointed? What, that they keep getting something wrong about you, or just in the fandom or humanity in general? Because you're gonna have to get used to the fact that some of the more obsessive types can make up stuff that's..." She frowns slightly, trying to come up with the right word. "Scary," is what she settles for.

Rei shakes her head. "I am not frightened. I find it...distasteful." She eats some more cheese and crackers and washed it down with her first swig of orange juice. "The NTSDF will need help against the Angels."

Violet nods, assuming Rei just didn't delve deep enough to find the scary stuff. Like the guys that claim that a pillow with her likeness is their wife. "W-well, uh, yeah, I guess. I mean... The whole... AT field is kinda impenetrable except for you guys.... and apparently Artanis... So yeah, we can't really do... anything against them, as I proved." She then sighs again, leaning forward almost far enough to nearly hit her head against her sandwich as it is placed in front of her.

Rei nods thoughtfully. "A particle beam energized with all the power of Japan can penetrate an AT-Field. Perhaps larger ships in the fleet might have some effect."

Violet grabs half the sandwich(it came cut in half!) and munches on it as she raises an eyebrow at that line of thought. "I'll have to see how that compares to Asgardian tech. Maybe Phoenix can penetrate an AT-field with an orbital strike." She actually sounds serious at that. "But then again, if my XO can just jump at an Angel and... somehow cut into it, an orbital strike seems... excessive."

Rei says, "I am unfamiliar with your executive officer."

Violet munches on another bite of her sandwhich and swallows before replying, "Do you remember the guy that... jumped at the angel? He wasn't human, has energy blades over his hands on his armor? That's Artanis, who is now my XO on Phoenix. Not... really sure why his blades worked, to be honest." She shrugs to emphasize the point.

Rei says, "perhaps they were pure expressions of his will."

Violet looks upward, chewing on her thoughts as she chews a bite of her sandwich. "Well, I think he called them 'psi-blades' at one point, so... I guess that kinda makes sense?"

Rei says, "The AT Field is an artifact of Self. It is the ultimate barrier against the other."

Violet shakes her head. "Yeah, I... saw the show, it just..." She sighs, her shoulders drooping as she does so. "Only about half of it made any sense to me. The main thing I got about AT fields was... 'We need Evas to penetrate them.'"

Rei shakes her head. "In theory, all that is needed is an another AT Field."

Violet says, "Well, yeah, but the EVAs could do it, and pretty much nothing else could make one strong enough or something?" She groans slightly. "Can we talk about something else? As far as I'm able to do, my only tactics are 'Send Artanis in' and 'Shoot at it with Asgardian tech guns from orbit.'"

Rei nods. "What do you wish to talk about?" she eats some more of her dinner. working though the square on the plate in efficient rows.

Violet says, "I..." She pauses and frowns, then points to Rei. "...How about why you're out eating in your, what was it callled, plugsuit?"

Rei ponders. "I need sustenance." She answers finally. as if that told the whole story.

Violet's left eye twitches. "No, I mean..." She suddenly drops her face into her palms. "Oh, god, it's like talking to Killer Bee again." She looks up again, a look of exasperation on her. "Plugsuit. Why?"

Rei looks down and tugs at her plugsuit. "At the moment I have no other clothing."

Violet's left eye twitches. "You've been here... how many weeks? Haven't they payed you anything yet? I mean... I assume if your EVA is on base, you're doing work for the NTSDF, right?"

Rei says, "At the moment I appear to be. 'freeloading'." After a pause she adds. "I have acquired some currency though."

Violet says, "Yeah, Rei, first thing you need is... clothes. Maybe a hat or new hairstyle so you can avoid the fanboys." She shakes her head. "Once again, I am glad I'm from here instead of from a TV show."

Rei says, "I shall purchase some." she nods "That has already been decided."

Violet says drily, "I'd do that before going out to eat away from the barracks' mess hall. Really, I know I've been known to wear skimpy clothes from time to time, but you look like you might as well have painted that suit on."

Rei finishes up her dinner and notes "It is vacuum sealed to maximize plug connectivity"

Violet frowns. "I'd feel more exposed in that than in my halter top." She pops the last of her own sandwich into her mouth.

Rei nods "It has not concerned me. However I shall purchase more clothing". She pauses then looks over at Violet. "I do not know where to purchase clothes.

Violet nods. "Right." She downs the last of her drink, then looks around. She seems to ponder for a moment, then says, "Well, I've nothing better to do tonight. Need help?"

Rei ponders appropriate responses "Please?"

Rei get's up and nods politely to Violet as she also puts money on the bar.

Violet blinks and pauses a moment before laughing as she puts her own money down. "Somehow, that actually surprised me. Sure, I can help ya out." She stands up with a bit of a grin. "I suppose a bus trip to the mall is in order?"

Rei shakes her head. "I have transportation. I found it in the badlands."

Violet blinks and raises an eyebrow. "Alright, then, you drive?" Rei looks a little young to be driving to Violet, but.... Hey, it's NeoTokyo. As such, she shrugs.

Center of NeoTokyo

Here you are in the epicenter of the insanity lovingly known as NeoTokyo and right in what seems to be the center lies the mysterious wonder known as Tokyo Tower, now seeming to have found it's way as an epicenter in this altered world. From here you can go in many directions to various streets and homes and wherever you may want to go. The area oddly enough seems to give off an odd aura from every direction.

Vehicles: JASDF Jeep

Jeep Cabin(#14504R) The inside of a military jeep. Very spartan but there's room (Barely) for 6, as long as the back four don't mind an experience like a cross between riding the back of a pickup truck and being compressed into a sardine can.

Rei starts the shot up and battered jeep with grinding of gears and a lurch forward. But she takes it from there smoothly enough.

Violet says, "Wow... This thing has seen better days... I certainly can believe you found it in the badlands..."

Rei says, "It has full functionality." as she navigates traffic.

Rei drives JASDF Jeep to The Boardwalk.

Rei drives JASDF Jeep to North Seaside Road.

Rei drives JASDF Jeep to Gingakei Mall: Parking Lot.

Gingakei Mall: Parking Lot A black sea of asphalt stretches before you, the wide expanse of the Gingakei Mall parking lot. Bright yellow lines painted on the cement separate the parking spaces of differing sizes. Beyond the parking lot looms the enormous Gingakei Mall itself, the entire front made of tinted glass that reflects the outside world. Within, you can dimly make out civilians strolling through the large mall, usually a greater population on the weekends.

Rei pulls into the Mall parking lot with a little more grinding gears and fender rub on a concrete pylon.

Gingakei Mall: Floor 1 A wide promenade stretches before you, the floor tiled with thick blocks of dark grey stone. The promenade stretches in each direction of the compass, the north and south reserved for the entraceways whilest the east and west lead to the main areas of the mall. At the center of this compass is a magnificent fountain carved from smooth ebony stone, polished til it practically glows. Cool, clear water bubbles up from spouts within the fountain, sprinkling a light shower into the "moat" around it.

Rei looks around the Mall, obviously overtaken by the number of choices.

Violet winces slightly. "I still think you might need to have a few... formal driving lessons. I've never driven a manual myself, but I think you're going to kill your clutch the way you're driving..." As they enter the mall, Violet looks around with a slight frown. "Okay... so we need to first figure out... what general kinds of clothing do you want to wear?"

Rei looks blank. "want?" she pauses "This requires thought"

Violet laughs a bit into a facepalm as Rei attempts to figure out what kind of style she might want. "Let's start with the basics... conservative, trendy, casual, or... skimpy?"

Rei arches an eyebrow. "conservative." She reconsiders "Perhaps casual"

Rei says, "Previously I wore what was ordered by school."

Violet says, "Eheh... Yeah, let's not go with the school look..." She looks around, debating to herself what store to attempt. In the end, she decides on the large department store! Casual and conservative should be easy to find there, right? "Okay, let's go to Upton's, and we'll see what strikes you as we walk around a bit, okay?" She then frowns again. "Or do you want me to just point you at some more specific things?"

Rei looks blank. "I have never... shopped."

Violet facepalms again. "Nggyyyr..." She takes a moment before looking up again. "Alright. So let's head in, and I'll... try to find something that fits you." She pauses a moment, then clarifies herself. "Fits you in a figurative manner. I'm sure we can find clothes your size."

Rei nods firmly "Affirmative"

Upton's Though not quite as high class as some of the other stores in the Gingakei Mall, Upton's still has a wide variety of clothing for discount prices. Signs everywhere proclaim items to be 10% - 50% off. Heavy metal carts loaded with sweaters, dresses, shirts, and more on hangers are sometimes seen being wheeled down the wide aisles of perfectly flat cream linoleum. Besides selling clothes, the store also has a selection of shoes and a few other similar wares.

Rei enters the store, and looks about. Clearly overwhelmed by her choices.

Violet says, "Okay, so... this isn't exactly the most stylish of places, but..." She glances at Rei. "I'm going to guess you don't particularly care about that." She keeps looking at Rei, then to racks, then back to Rei. Finally, she just sighs and shakes her head. "Screw it, I'm gonna wing it."

Rei follows looking uncertain. 'Screw it I'm going to wing it' not exactly words to inspire confidence.

As Violet looks about the place, she picks up items, holds them up to Rei and nods or shakes her head. One item in question is a relatively low cut white V-neck T-shirt. "I know you said conservative, but I'm thinking this will go really well with this vest..."

Rei reaches out and takes the items. "I assume I am to try them on?"

Violet nods. "But let's find some pants first, since... you don't have any..." She pauses with a frown, then goes out to find a few pairs of jeans, returning before too long. "Okay... Let's give this a shot, eh?" She now hands over the pants to add to the bundle Rei is already carrying.

Rei looks around for a change room.

Violet stands outside the changing room, waiting on Rei to decide if she finds it sufficient or not. Suddenly she just blinks, as if in surprise. "Why did I get myself into this?"

Rei tries out the outfit. slipping out of her plug suit and putting the other clothes on. After a short while, Rei is efficient, she comes out of the dressing room.

Violet looks over Rei and offers her a smile. "Looks pretty decent, I think? How's it fit?"

Rei shrugs and wriggles. She has a degree of grace when she chooses to apply it. "The fit is adequate. and the look is...not a maid's uniform, or ... less.

Violet :tilts her head with a raised eyebrow. "Maid's uniform?" Then she recalls an early part of their conversation, and facepalms. "Oh, right. Yeah, let's get you some shoes to finish this off..."

Rei nods firmly "footwear would be comfortable." Rei isn't wearing any socks aparantly.

Violet blinks as she looks down at Rei's feet. "And socks... Okay. You really didn't have anything... uhhh... You had... underwear, right?" Not waiting for the answer, she leads onward to the shoe section, which thankfully has socks nearby! "Hrrrm... I'm thinking...." She finds a pair of pointy toed boots with a low, wide heel. "What do you think?"

Rei obediently tries the boots on. with socks. guess that's a sale already made. She refrains from comment about her underwear or lack of it under the skin tight suit.

Violet says, "Well... Like I said... Looks good to me? It certainly beats walking around in a plugsuit everywhere..." She walks around, looking at Rei from various angles, then in the end... Shrugs. "How do you like it?"

Rei turns around in front of the mirror and shrugs uncertainly. "It is adequate. It is not something that the internet suggests I should wear."

Rei says, "Perhaps I should purchase it. If I find it deficient in some way I can always buy more."

Violet scrunches her lips to one side. "....That's a good thing, right? The not what the internet puts you in part?" She then nods to Rei's thoughts on buying more. "Right. Hopefully this gets you started on finding your own style?"

Rei nods firmly and heads for the sales counter. pausing to grab purse at random to add to the sale.

Rei(#13120PBC) Pale blue hair cropped in an untidy 'page boy' is probably the first thing you notice about this quiet young woman. Next might her eyes. They're red, not bloodshot, the iris is nearly crimson. The heart shaped face has a snub nose and a pale pale complexion. You imagine from her habitually serious expression that she is older than she looks, Which would be early teens judging from her height and a little older judging from her feminine contours.

Rei is dress casually. Pointy toed boots with low heels cover her feet while boot cut blue jeans cover most of the boots. Her shirt is a simple white tee with a low v-necked bodice. Also covering her top is a simple brown vest.
