Short Description: A well tanned, red haired woman wearing glasses.
Magic: While not as naturally as proficient in magic as she is in mechanics, studying has made up for much of that gap. She greatly enjoys it, and enjoys tinkering with spells as she would with an engine. The type of magic is is most proficient in is Sidran magic, which works from a primarily elemental base. Spells of this type mix the six elements (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, and Shadow) in various ways to create their spells. While she knows more generalist magic as well, she will generally use Sidran style magic unless she can't figure out a way to replicate the result with element mixing.
Technomancy: As a gifted mechanic and studied mage, she has, of course, learned and invented ways to combine the two. She has in fact made a career of it for most of her life, working up to the highest position within Magus Spaceworks' Engineering department.
Fabrication: Zelan is fully capable of building up equipment from scratch, though she of course would require tools and raw materials. Due to her focus on the design and testing phase in her time at Magus Spaceworks, she tends to build one item at a time with care, thus mass producing equipment would be very unnatural to her.
Shapeshifting: Zelan, like all members of her family from her mother on down, is a natural shapeshifter. This also keeps her from aging. She is able to take any humanoid form, though any extra limbs beyond a tail(which her natural form has: she is not human) would make it very clear that she isn't used to using those limbs. For example, if she were to make wings, she would be unable to actually use them to fly, and an extra arm would have very poor dexterity. She is capable of reducing her size to roughly a small housecat, but would be unable to grow beyond about 8 feet tall. As this is effectively natural magic, this even effects her mass.
Pilotting: While not even remotely as talented as her brother Tris, Zelan does know her way around piloting a starship, being it a light personal craft up to operating the various components of a capital ship due to testing Magus Spaceworks designs. In general she has left fighter testing to professional test pilots, so she's not familiar with fighter craft.
Personal Weapons: In developing equipment for Magus Spaceworks, Zelan has had times when she was working on small scale equipment rather than starship and their equipment. Of course she would test much of this equipment herself once they were proven safe. As such, she is proficient with most weapons, but far from an expert. She's a fair shot with a pistol or rifle, but hasn't actually used them in combat. It is much the same with melee weapons: she knows how to swing a sword or axe, how to thrust with a knife, but she has never had to do so in combat.
Zelan Darkflower, a daughter of the mercenary Zelath Darkflower and famed general Tres de Cron, grew up hearing tales of the heroics of her parents. Almost never from her parents, mind you, but the stories did come to her. Despite all the tales of heroics, Zelan always found herself drawn to mechanics and tech, tinkering and inventing and improving equipment. While her older brother immediately went into training to be a fighter pilot, Zelan followed her own path, joining the Intersystem Defense Fleet as a techie. She was happy to work as a mechanic not really thinking about changing her focus, advancing her position, or going civilian.
She continued on her path until the Battle of Diamondia. In this major invasion, intended to free the homeworld of the exiled Diamondian people from the occupying Draygons, she was assigned to the Starmage class frigate Hydra. It was in this battle that she first was witness to what can happen when magic and technology is combined, as the primary weapon of the Starmage class is an array that casts a heavily boosted form of an already highly destructive spell. This became a new obsession for her, and after the planet was liberated, she took a leave from the fleet to learn magic.
This new obsession of hers lead to another ten years studying, this time learning the art of spellcasting. She became a known name in the Crolt Magic Guild, but she always had a goal in mind throughout. Once satisfied with her magic knowledge, she rekindled her prior obsession with technology, catching herself up again before applying for an engineering position within Magus Spaceworks, the company behind the Starmage class frigate. While she rose fairly slowly in the company due to a lack of ambition, due to her raw experience in the company she has risen all the way to the highest position in the engineering department, that of a Project Leader. She isn't the only person in this position, as there are a half dozen Project Leaders in all.
But of course with all that time in the company, Zelan has taken countless vacations and a few sabbaticals, as well. Right now, she had just begun a new sabbatical, intent on heading to the Sol system to take in the culture of the humans living throughout it. She was set to arrive at Tokyo(which has actually relocated to Mars in her universe), but somehow, she's found herself arriving in NeoTokyo instead.
