Urus is kneeling behind one of the parked squad cars his 5 shot rifle in hand, any second now Rayne will be coming out from the station, he's going irons, due to the uselessness of the scope at any effective range that came with it. he doesn't have any spare ammo, he won't need it. he's been actually sitting out here for the last 30 minutes.

And indeed, Rayne does soon step out. Later than perhaps expected... because of course something came up that had Rayne staying late. Something ALWAYS comes up. But now she's free, and she steps bleary-eyed out of the precinct with a coffee mug in hand. 'Mondays? You say that like I have a weekend,' it says on it. But yes, it's currently filled with coffee, based on the steam coming out of it.

The hyena shoves the rifle into his shoulder and aims carefully. Urus settles in, aims, a little higher for distance, exhales, and fires. The little orange dart flying straight and true and smacking the cheif in the back of the shoulder, had that been a real round, probably would have killed her or at the least wounded her signifcantly, but as a foam dart it does no damage and bounces off without more than a solid tap. The hyena stands up after that shaking his head. "you really should be more alert these days."

Jack Hawksmoor comes sauntering out of the cop shop a bit behind Rayne, perhaps delayed by the same thing. Just in time to see the hyena prank the police chief. If he could eat, he'd sure as heck be looking for popcorn right now.

Rayne feels the dart hit her shoulder, reacting with... a slight jerk of said shoulder. It's definitely a reaction rather than transferred momentum. The foam dart of course just bounced off the leather, not to mention the cat that the motion was a split-second /after/ the 'impact'. She looks down at the dart on the ground, then over at Urus. Before she can say anything, however, a much older looking man leans his head out of the aforementioned parked squad car and says, "Ha! He got ya."

Rayne looks, if anything, more annoyed at the older man than at Urus. "Captain, don't you have anything better to do?"

"Nah. I've got another five minutes on my break." Cosgrove holds up his cup of coffee and doughnut in emphasis. The man takes everything about being a police officer more seriously than he appears to to the casual eye. Including his breaks.

Rayne just sighs at this, shaking her head before finally being able to address Urus. "Yeah. Probably." She doesn't look angry. It was just a foam dart, after all. She does look mildly annoyed, however. A look that hasn't been directed at Urus since he was working closely with TASK. Granted, she does give that look to a lot more people in general, now that she's in charge. "Is this supposed to be a lesson you're trying to teach me, or..."

"That your lack of alertness could get you killed if someone with more devious intentions than I were here..." Urus says in response pausing for a second. "Yes." he replies with a nod. "past that I was wondering if there were any bad guys that were vulnerable to foam darts I could kill off for you." he jokes. "still looking for somthing to pay the bills."

Rayne sighs and facepalms. "Urus, I'm already amazed I've not been killed in the times when I /was/ more alert. I know I'm not the not the most alert person in the city." She motions towards the hyenamorph with her coffee mug as if pointing at him. "I know you have more actual combat experience than I do, but I'm not a soldier anymore. I'm an administrator." Her tone of voice drops slightly at that last word. She then looks at the dart gun before shaking her head. "No. That living water puddle spent its time locked in a sponge and has been a model citizen ever since we wrung it out. I'm actually kind of proud of it for reforming itself." She sips her coffee before adding, "Pun not intended." Wait, she was serious?

Urus nods "you mind if we take a walk then?" he says. "would hate for somthing to happen to you for real." he states. picking up his dart on the way by and holding the nerf gun by its carrying handle. he gives her a weird look, living water puddle... just when he thought that he had the place figured out another realization slaps him upside the head. "it was meant as a joke anyway."

Jack Hawksmoor shakes his head. He finally wanders over. "Living water puddle? I haven't met that one yet." His tone is faintly amused. No, he's not mocking Rayne. Out loud.

Rayne shrugs on the mention of taking a walk. "Don't out of worry for me. I'll point out that I /am/ a phoenix, if you recall." She looks between the two. "I know it was, Urus. But it's something that actually came up once. And it was about a year before your time, Detective. I think it got out just a month before you joined?" Apparently the living puddle prefers the 'it' pronoun, because Rayne generally finds it just easier to refer to beings by their preferred pronoun unless she's specifically trying to antagonize someone. And even rarely then.

Urus shakes his head. the weirdness this world has is endless. he nods out toward twisted street. "Come on, got somthing to which you should probably know." he sighs. "you might as well join detective, in case somthing goes horribly wrong at some point... knowing me it will." Urus states. "It doesnt matter if your a godess. I dont want to see you get hurt, permenantly or not." he states. Theres a bit of care in his gaze toward the phoenix that she would know is not given to anyone else still here.

Jack Hawksmoor ahs. "Got out." He makes a wry face. "So, what are we up to, or..." He glances between Urus and Rayne; he's neither blind nor stupid...something's going on there.

Rayne looks at Urus for a moment before letting out a tired sounding sigh. "All right, all right." She tenses up at being referred to as a 'goddess', however. "I am /not/ a goddess. /Please/ do not lump me in with that self-aggrandizing lot. I'm just a person with some powers, that's all." She raises an eyebrow at the look he gives her, though. Not a look she's really used to seeing him give. Then again, she never saw him around Marina. She glances at Jack, then shrugs again. "Right. Well. Lead on, I guess," she says before taking a long drink of her coffee.

Urus does not walk quickly or far, just enough though that there should be no one nosy getting information they dont deserve. "I say that only as a way to say just because you can regenerate doesnt mean I want anything bad to happen." he states before dropping that particular subject. theres definately a history between the cheif and the currently bounty hunter Jack could easily tell that. "so this has to do... with my medical tests. Johann was nice enough to help me with those."

Jack Hawksmoor ahs. "Can he be trusted? I'm *still* looking for a biochemist to help me with something," Jack says, a little wryly.

Rayne lets out a slightly exasperated sigh and nods. Yeah, she saw this coming. "Ah. That. Yeah. And with things going as heavy as they are here, I think I can guess what the results were." Actually, she overheard him more or less saying it when those... particularly disgusting creatures showed up in the park. She's not going to say that, though. She figures actually saying it to her will help Urus cope with it. She does shoot Jack a look with a raised eyebrow, though. "Johann? He's the best doctor I'm aware of in this place."

Urus nods "he seems to be a straight shooter figuratively." he says "so if you have somthing medical related go to him." Urus says he sighs. "My blood test came back positive with a virus, not unlike an STD, that has the coding inside it that made me what I am now." he sighs. "and seeing as I'm known for getting myself in trouble, I know that somewhere down the line you may have to deal with the aftermath of somthing stupid I do, and so..." he sighs. "any questions?"

Jack Hawksmoor nods. "I'll try and track him down."

Rayne nods with a grimace. "I was more or less afraid of that. So biological fluids have to be swapped, then, so to speak? Well... it's not like it's the first disease that had to be treated with that kind of caution for spreading." She's... attempting to make the situation a little lighter. "And I don't think so, no. Other than, I can trust you'll tell me if you think there might be a case of someone else getting infected, right?"

Urus nods. "I will unless I am unable to do so." he says "probably the easiest way is if someone gets my blood in their mouth. I dont know how far it can spread. if normal humans are the only ones at risk or if enhanced humans like you are also suseptable." he says. "Its no walk in the park. its somthing that I dont wish on anyone. I just figured you might need to know. or want to.. take your pick."

Jack Hawksmoor listens to the two, venturing nothing for now. He's making a lot of mental notes, though.

Rayne continues walking along and nods. "Yeah, your tendency to get into that kind of trouble /does/ make it a little more likely to happen than most people. And you do yourself a disservice. It could get into their open wound, too." Yeah, a little bit of a bit too dry humor there. "And... yes, it's kind of a need to know thing. A known possible threat that we might have to deal with if the wrong person gets away with it in their blood. I'd suggest carrying something to cauterize your wounds with if you think you might be going into battle, by the way. And a medical bracelet of some sort? That's a thing, right?" She looks between the two for confirmation on that last one, never having needed anything like that before. Medical testing is advanced enough in her home universe that her incompatibility with that one anesthetic that doesn't exist here would be found before it was applied, after all. Right? Right. She lets out a huff of air, then nods. "But thanks for letting me... /us/ know." No, she doesn't mean herself and Jack specifically. She means the Police Department as a whole.

Jack Hawksmoor finally speaks, "It does sound like important information." After a moment. "I doubt very much the virus can do anything to *me*."

Urus sighs, he hadnt even considered wounds on both of them... yet another possible way. "well I'll tell you they wont be hiding anywhere quietly for a month so you have that." he says. "beleive me, only shortsighted or insane individuals would attempt to do this willingly." he states. "feild cauterization is... while possible and sterile.. difficult." he states. "Nothing like having to force yourself to melt your own flesh." he says. "somthing like that exists, usually for older people." he states. "but it exists. and your welcome. Just try not to blame me if it somehow gets out of hand. if I'm warning you, you know I'm trying to keep this down myself."

Rayne glances at Jack with a raised eyebrow, but doesn't say anything. She's fairly certain she could make such an infection temporary in herself, but isn't saying anything about it. She's now starting to wonder how extensive cybernetics would affect the virus's effects... and is of course assuming that said cybernetics are why Jack doesn't think he'd be affected. She looks back to Urus again and admits, "Yeah, I know your point. Cauterizing doesn't work on me at all, for the record, so I've not looked into its real effectiveness. It's just a thought. And yeah. I'm expecting unwilling, mostly. Maybe with some study, someone can come up with a treatment that can keep it from actually transforming someone?" She doesn't want to give Urus the hope of getting himself back to normal, but she can see a possibility of keeping the worst effects off of a new victim.

Urus has not even considered the idea of returning to human, he's been like this for close to 15 years now, almost half his life. to return now would be just as weird to him as someone suddenly turning into a hybrid hyena. " Theres always a chance of alot of things, especially in someplace like twisted where there's living puddles." he remarks. "I am serious though about some work. I've been... debating what skills I have that could give me a good living here."

Jack Hawksmoor has gone back to listening. Living puddles. He's almost unhappy he missed that one. He looks over towards the fountain for a brief moment, then back to the two.

Rayne glances at Jack as he looks at the fountain. "It's not in the fountain. That's what got it in trouble to begin with." To Urus, she says, "Looking for work. Are you trying to say you want to be an officer? Remember it's not all combat. In fact, it's mostly /not/ combat." She knows Urus' main strength is combat. "Frankly, in my experience, when there's an incident, officers tend to get there /after/ the fact and just show up to file reports." Yeah, bitter much about the other day and those /four/ officers showing up at the same time after everything was taken care of?

Urus shakes his head. "not asking... yet." he says "my main strength is killing people and well, with you in charge of things and all I've been... lacking the drive to find mercenary work." he says. "I'm not sure I have any marketable skills otherwise however." he admits.

"Everyone has marketable skills," Jack says, finally turning all of his attention back from the fountain. "Yeah, messing with the fountain tends not to work so well."

Rayne offers Urus a quick grin, but it doesn't last. "Yeah, Jack's right." Hey, she actually referred to him by name rather than just calling him 'Detective'. "This may sound weird, but maybe you should look into some of the resources at the Welcome Center? They offer some 'welcome to modern life' resources that include employment exploration stuff."

Urus nods. "I'll consider it." he says "Besides. Been getting a little tired of all the work that goes into killing folks. hell, I almost gave up on my shot those few minutes ago." he states honestly.

"Known people who end up feeling that way." And then there's the Midnighter, but that guy's a total psycho. Unless you're his partner, of course.

Rayne deadpans, "Yeah, just how long were you waiting there for me to step out? I got delayed..." She shakes her head, then nods again at what Jack says. "It's not something most people can stick with. Even my father tends to break up his bounty hunting into relatively short stints."

Urus shrugs "About thirty minutes." he admits. "Anything you can think of that I could be good at?"

Jack Hawksmoor doesn't know Urus, and thus offers no response to that, instead glancing at Rayne with a slightly elevated bow.

Rayne pauses and glances upward. "Well, my father has had a few stints as a restaurant owner and bartender. How are you at mixing drinks?" She looks back to Urus with a shrug.

Urus shrugs. "Ive mixed my own, so I guess I'm not bad, you really think I could be a good bartender?" he asks incredulously, though the sound of his voice does mean that he's likely to believe any of the suggestions he's given. he nods. "well, would be worth a shot."

"Not a terrible idea, the amount people around here drink," Jack quips.

Rayne shrugs in honesty at the question of if Urus could be a good bartender or not, then quirks an eyebrow at his word choice. "Pun intended or not?" Worth a shot, indeed. "And yeah. There's a lot of heavy drinkers out there. I know a werewolf that tends to drink heavily..."

Urus cocks an eyebrow. "a werewolf. now that's something I have yet to see." he admits. "maybe that will be fun to witness." he nods. "well try everything once... twice if you like it as my dad used to say." he shrugs. he's not half bad, he knows half the terminology already and can learn the rest easily with a couple of good nights of practice. his fur is the only issue...

Jack Hawksmoor shrugs a bit. "Some people are drowning their sorrows. Some people seem to just want to try everything on the Usual's menu."

Rayne shrugs. "Well, she /told/ me she's a werewolf. She doesn't transform as quickly as Sarra." She then offers a quick encouraging smile to Urus before looking over her shoulder at Jack. "I think Blake is more the latter."

Urus nods "thank you, both of you for listening. Maybe the next time you see me I'll be behind the bar instead of saddled up to it." he smiles. "Never know, I never thought I would be friends with a Pheonix but here we are." he smiles with those sharp teeth of his.
