Staren
Staren, the mystic disguised as a human, stands just over five feet tall. Fair complexioned, she has bright blue eyes and has chocolate-brown hair that falls down to her hips, and overall could probably be considered 'cute'. She's still young, appearing about 16 years old. She usually wears a white cloak, usually with the hood down, with a red stripe running along the bottom. Under that she wears a red short-sleeve tunic and blue pants, and a pair of leather boots. An assortment of pouches hangs from her belt.
Staren
Weapons - Staren has some natural aptitude for using ranged weapons at short range. If monsters roam about as they do in the games, he has likely learned to defend himself with a crossbow or, depending on availability, some more high-tech weapon. If self-defense is less of an issue, then he's probably never used a weapon before.

Magic - Being a Mystic, magic is part of Staren's heritage so his family has encouraged its study. Star has natural aptitude in the area, and so while still a teenager has reached almost beginning wizard level despite studying his other interests as well. He is familiar with using cantrips, and can cast less-weak spells with a bit of time and mental strain (like working out a math problem in real life). Having a spell handy in written form (scroll, spellbook) allows him to cast it more easily.

Spellcraft - Staren is familiar to a small degree with some magical concepts (far) beyond his level, enough to get a very faint idea of what experienced wizards may be talking about. Much like how many people have heard of the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle or of matter having some sort of "quantum states", but they couldn't tell you how to practically use quantum entanglement or why the mass and charge of the top quark matters to theoretical physicists.

Science - When Staren's grandfather was a young man, he visited a far-away land with _his_ father (a traveling merchant), and there saw something amazing - fireworks. He found the fireworks-maker, learned the secret, and returned home with a fresh alternative to the magic shows Mystics were used to. On top of that, he had learned a a little of the science behind these pyrotechnic wonders and continued to study it afterwards, passing his knowledge on to Staren's father, who in turn made it available to Staren. This "science" interested Staren as much as magic, and so he has spent years learning about it, grasping concepts quickly with his natural aptitude for academics, even beginning to learn things unknown to his father and grandfather.

Mathematics - Staren's natural aptitude covers math as well, so he's easily learned a lot of it.

Music - You guessed it, another area Staren has natural aptitude in. While Staren's father and grandfather had talents in academics, Star's mother and grandmother had musical talent. But while Staren's been busy developing his academics, this talent has sort of fallen by the wayside. He has a good ear and is good at remembering tunes, but has learned only a little about singing. He's unpracticed and certainly not as good as a proffessional.

Shapeshifting - As a descendant of Flea, this, too, is his heritage, and so his parents have been teaching him since he was a small child. While his other studies have detracted from his study of shapeshifting, he's still learned a number of things. Changing gender, of course, and how to quickly disguise himself. Changing age. Even changing into animals, although aside from one form he's practiced, he can never hold animal forms, and often gets details wrong or mixed up (like a dog with brightly colored fur, or a rabbit with catlike or human-ish face). He can mimic other Mystics and Humans, but not well enough to evade being detected if someone gets a close look at him; in addition, unless he mimics that particular person a lot or has practiced the form a lot, he won't be able to hold it for more than a minute or so at best without constantly devoting concentration to keeping his form stable - otherwise he'll start to slip out of the form, eyes changing color, freckles rearranging themselves, nose changing shape a little, and so on - even if he concentrates on holding the form, anyone looking closely, especially someone in conversation with him and wondering why he looks so distracted, might catch a feature starting to change before it snaps back to what it's 'supposed' to look like. The slippage is probably towards one of his practiced forms. Practiced changes: Gender, age (younger), human, housecat. Forms in-between practiced forms are possible too - he could be a male-sounding girl if he _wanted_, but he's not particularly interested in that.

Note: I don't know how clothes and Flea-descendant shapeshifting mix. If it covers clothes, that's nice, and he's probably practiced with changing clothes since it's convenient for adjusting to changes in temperature, inside/outside, making clothes continue to fit while making other changes, etc. If not, he at least has spells that can illusionarily change clothes (difficult, scroll/spellbook helps) or make fit changes/small changes (easy).

Note on family - While I've mentioned some of Staren's family, I may have left a lot out. Two reasons: If I have a cool idea for a family member, I want to be able to introduce them without contradicting myself, and also there's still that possible RP hook of being related to Miff (her nephew), and I don't want to prevent that possibility by giving too much information on what would be Miff's family as well. I hope I'm still free to add to things - for example, Staren's father's actual occupation isn't given here, though it might be assumed he's a fireworks-maker. Or perhaps I think it'd be neat if Staren's mother was a warrior, who keeps trying to get him interested in fighting when he's more interested in academics.

Flaws:

While Staren has talent in multiple areas, he isn't a master of everything. He's certainly not a master swordsman or athlete, and with his interests he hasn't really gotten out much. While he loves stories and has heard many about all sorts of places, people, and things, he's still kind of naive especially when dealing with people; he's a little too trusting, perhaps even a little gullible, and tends to be either ignorant about the shady side of people he meets or he assumes they're not as bad as people say. This has some benefits - for example, he does not have the usual Mystic prejudice against humans. They can't all be so bad as people say, after all, in fact they're probably mostly nice people and it's all been exaggerated, right? But on the other hand, if a criminal showed up at his door and they said bad people were after them and they needed help hiding, he gladly would assist them, unaware that the 'bad people' are the authorities.

Background

Reason for coming to Truce: Heard stories of a man and his daughter who make strange devices, and possibly to visit a relative in the area.

Gender-changing: He's comfortable in either form, really. He may change on a whim, or just for variety. Everyone has a masculine and feminine side, but for Flea's descendants they can be associated with physical changes.

Pet: Staren keeps a pet small animal (probably a rabbit, I haven't decided yet) for companionship, enchanted with spells to keep predators from trying to eat it. If Staren learns a lot of magic he may make it a familiar in the future.
