The daughter of two scholars, Meln lead a sheltered life, learning everything she knew through books. However, eventually she left her family to seek her fortune as a wandering anthropologist/hero, having vast delusions from the books she had read how well both of these occupations paid, or, indeed, what precisely they consisted of.
